Tons of birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. Our market farm produces a range of organically grown fruits and vegetables and will be adding pasture raised chickens and eggs soon. Walk through the property and see our many pollinator habitats and permanent plantings - see zebra, tiger, and eastern swallowtail butterflies, many types of bees, and more. We live and work with intention to create sustainable habitats for all wildlife and see an abundance of hawks and owls, swallows and kites, lizards, toads, frogs, spiders, and everything you would imagine seeing in nature. Come and spend some time at a direct-to-consumer dairy farm. Our cows are called Dutch Belted. They are often referred to as Oreo cows. Stay on the farm where the milk is produced, processed, and sold. The farm store is a short distance away and sells a large variety of farm foods. The farm consists of about 200 acres of pasture and creek bottom. The owner, Loyd, has lived on the farm all his life. We are right beside what used to be a Navy base... yeah in Kansas.:) The runway still gets used for gliders. So you might see a glider being pulled up while you are here.

So being so close to the city and having this space that is secluded and peaceful it seemed only fair to share it with someone who is interested in the same thing. When you drive onto the property you will take the first left and follow the grave towards the pond then take a right, drive past the garden, past the fire pit and toward the trees. From there you can pick your spot to spend sometime enjoying the great outdoors.

Daniel's 100-yr-old farm

I am proud to be a fourth-generation caretaker of this farm and surrounding acreage. My great-grandfather purchased this land in 1921 and since then, my family has been farming the best way that we knew how. For the last 30 years, that has meant a divergence from traditional farming practices to focus on regenerative farming-- farming that focuses on enriching the health of the soil and the animals instead of depleting it.On our farm, we raise beef, lamb, pigs and chickens and they all live out on pasture. In our farm store we sell meat, eggs, and raw, all-grass dairy products like milk, butter, cheese, kefir, and yogurt. Our customers drive from all parts of central Kansas to shop at Jako Farm because our food is different than food in the grocery store. We call it JakoPure food.Not only do we share our life-giving, gut-restoring food with others, but we want to share the experience of our farm, too. That's why we've started hosting guests on hipcamp so that you can truly experience what's special about our farm. Each location provides a unique perspective on our farm, and you'll engage a different part of our story at each place. But wherever you stake your temporary claim at Jako Farm, we hope you experience the peace and rest that we know and love.Learn more about this land:Jako Farm is a working regenerative farm, and this campsite provides an easy view of all that goes on here. The cows and sheep will graze near by while the chickens scratch in the distance. You'll see the farmers moving the animals to new pasture and the llama playing games with the sheep. If you're up at sunrise, you'll see Ken bringing the cows up to the barn for milking (April through November). Its pretty quiet here, except for the subtle noises of wildlife. (Fair warning: if you're in a tent, you will probably hear the milking machine kick on at 6:30am.) We're also proud to be a smell-free farm because all animals live out on pasture. There are killer sunrises and sunsets here. If you're lucky, you'll also see our resident bald eagle pair soaring through the sky.A bathroom with shower is available for your use in the barn nearby.Please be respectful of farm operations, although we're always open to answering questions if you see us around. While you are here, you can take your boat on this expansive lake to explore it all while you fish for your dinner. Back on the land you’ll be beckoned by picturesque hiking trails, biking trails, and horse trails. There is a wide variety of campsites on the shoreline, offering the perfect vista to see the moon and stars reflected back into the lake. Kansas magic at its best!Meet our friendly indoor/outdoor cats, and maybe even spot a deer in the surrounding fields as you relax around the fire pit. Visitors in June can even harvest fresh mulberries from several trees surrounding the camping area. We commonly see deer, squirrels, rabbits, and a large variety of birds. We are the Hayse Family and we recently moved from New Braunfels, Texas to Derby, Kansas. Why leave the excitement of one of the fastest growing areas in the country for Derby you ask? The answer is two fold. Family – we have family all over Kansas and for years have been driving 10 hours for every holiday. We finally decided that our time is just too precious to be spending that much of it on the road. While we miss our Texas friends dearly, we are so happy to finally be close to family! Homesteading – we have always had the dream of raising our own food. We found a beautiful piece of land between Derby and Rose Hill. We are renovating the house first and then will focus more on the homesteading efforts. We currently have chickens, goats, a garden plot, and fruit trees. All our animals will be pasture raised and all our food will not be treated with anything harmful. We sometimes have pigs and by the end of the year hope to have least one dairy cow.
