Hey there Happy Campers! We welcome you to our small slice of Driftless heaven. This private campsite is located in prairie land, surrounded by agricultural and wooded property (it’s quiet). Within a few minutes drive you have access to some of the best trout streams a fishing license can buy. You're also in close proximity to amazing hiking and biking trails, agri-tourism (apple pickin' good times!), endless photography opportunities, wineries, birding, stargazing and visits to downtown Viroqua! After a long day of adventuring, come back to this quiet retreat, make some brandy old fashions and enjoy the ambiance of the stars and crackling camp fire! This site can accommodate 2 large tents with plenty of room for a camp kitchen, fire pit and seating area. There is newly constructed composting style outbuilding (please read instructions before using it) and a camp kitchen table along with solar powered lighting. Firewood and other supplies are conveniently available in downtown Viroqua. Be sure to check out the various retailers and restaurants while you're there! The rustic cabin sits on a beautiful ridge. You will have a great view of the sky. Birds and wildlife watching along with listening to them. The property is a second farm that has been in my family's history since the 1960's. We are a working crop, horses and beef cattle farm. We raise crops on this property. We have a main farm down the road that if you would like to visit, we can try setting that up so you can see the animals if you would like. Please note that the cabin has a porta potty outside. The cabin does not have electricity, but an extension cord can be brought and plugged into the outdoor electric outlet. The cord can be run into the cabin to use the fan, lamp and electric skillet or infrared heater in the colder months. There is a water hydrant outside for bathing or boiling. The water is non potable. We have direct access to the property for ATV/UTV's for the public road use on the back roads. You can travel from town to town and sight see. The property is between two towns and is close to places to see and things to do, driftless area history, wineries, caves, hiking, canoeing, fishing, sightseeing, river, streams and more.

The loft comfortably sleeps eight and can accommodate up to ten guests with a blow-up mattress if needed. Step onto the east-facing patio deck with your morning beverage and watch the sunrise over fields of blooming prairie flowers. Wildlife is abundant—deer, rabbits, songbirds, pheasants, and even eagles are frequent visitors. As night falls, the second-floor deck becomes the perfect spot for stargazing and listening to the calls of coyotes echoing across the land. Next door to the Lodge, you’ll find the Bin Bar—a once-abandoned grain bin transformed in 2017 into a unique gathering space ideal for late-night storytelling and nightcaps under the stars. For those traveling with a larger group, RV campsites with full water, sewer, and electrical hookups are available near the Lodge. Our expansive 360-acre farm, in the family for nearly 80 years, has undergone significant transformation. What was once a grove of trees and a borrow pit for highway construction has evolved into a welcoming campground. Steve and Ellen were absolutely amazing during the entirety of our stay. Their help and welcoming personality gave us the best weekend getaway. Steve was generous and allowed us to use his paddle boat on the beautiful pond and wood for the campfire. Keep a good eye out at night for a clear sky of stars. Had a great time on this acre, fishing, camping, cooking, and all. Highly recommend!

We loved Jims Cozy Cabin. Jim was super laid back. This was a perfect place for me, my husband and our two pups. We stayed only two nights but could have stayed longer. Our pups loved exploring the farm and I loved floating in the pond with our neighbor. Whom stayed in the beautiful canvas tent on the other side of the pond. It was very secluded with all the amenities you'll need. He offered to help with our fire and he blew up floats for us. He even offered us fresh veggies from his garden. The cabin was very clean and cute. A/C worked great and was much needed. Cabin was only an hour away from Galena IL and 30 min from Dubuque IW both towns have great shopping, bars and restaurants. But if you're just looking to get away from the city and see the stars this place is where you need to be. We loved sitting on the dock at night looking at the stars. You can tell Jim spent a lot of hard work on his property to make it beautiful with all the flowers and hanging lights everywhere even around the lake. When we left we couldn't thank Jim enough. We will be back.

I had a great experience tent camping here at Turtle head, hiking at Kickapoo Valley Reserve, visiting a winery, and enjoying an indulgently delicious tenderloin dinner at the driftless cafe in Viroqua. The camp site is off a quiet gravel road (minimal traffic, great for a run) nestled between two hills and easily navigable. The bathroom/shower set up are so convenient, just BYO soap and water. The string lights bring a cozy aesthetic to the campsite. My only downside was that the ground is very lumpy and slightly uneven so consider bringing extra padding or an air mattress if you’re tent camping.

Great spot near Viroqua. I was looking for a place to bike from that was near some gravel roads and this spot was easy for access to a route. It was on a quiet gravel road. It had the basic things I needed. Unfortunately there was a burn ban when I was there so I couldn't have a campfire, but I was glad I was informed of that before I went.

5 nights at Windy Ridge Retreat

this cabin was great! it's tucked into a hillside and very private, Sherri messaged with us right away and we met with her husband Jason shortly after we arrived. they are very nice and good hosts. there was plenty of firewood provided for the large fire ring, and the property was very well maintained and ready for us to enjoy. the cabin was very comfy and warm at night while staying cool during the day. two windows provided a nice cross breeze and while it did get down to 30° one morning during our stay we did not need to use the woodstove or electric heater at all. we did bring a 50' powercord to be able to use my partner's cpap and that worked very well. its glamping, but not so much it doesnt feel like camping still, if that makes sense? the sky is large with plenty of stars to see, the birdsong was wonderful with alot of different birds including one very physic woodpecker that entertained us with his antics. the cabin is close enuff to town to run in quick if you need anything or would like to have a bite to eat at the diner cafe there, but the setting is all countryside. there are several public lands nearby to explore hiking or boating and we also enjoyed taking drives along the atv utv routes some blactop some gravel roads that led thru some incredibly scenic forested hollows, valleys, and ridgetops in the area. if you want to cabin camp in privacy windy ridge is a good choice!
