Entry point to western Boone County in Northern Kentucky, neighbor to Cincinnati, Rabbit Hash, Indiana the Ohio River, this 27 acre property marks a geographical change from rolling farmland to steep, forested hillsides. Our end-of-the road, ridgetop property means privacy. Our isolated campsites are surrounded by woods full of turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Onsite there are wide, easy strolling paths, a growing number of single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest. And if not booked, a historic log home to explore and do some porch sitting. A great place for solo campers, friends, and families, whether newbies or experienced. Drive-in sites make unloading/loading easy peasey. Standard amenities include privacy - we only book two sites at any time, which are far apart from each other and surrounded by woods. Also, an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). And onsite firewood purchased during booking or while onsite. Site 1 - Open Sky accommodates solo or the group, tents to small campers. It comes with extra amenities: hammock, trampoline, (badminton & cornhole by request). It's also closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, outhouse. Site 2 - Gobbler's Knob is a more cozy space - a small rise surrounded by forest. Large RVs and campers are welcome but will likely want to stay in the area before our bridge (we are happy to send pictures). Long campers and RVs that are low to the ground may scrape / bottom out going across the bridge. WARNING: The driveway leading to the campsite is a long, steep, gravel driveway with a concrete bridge at the bottom. The bridge also has fairly steep embankments on both sides (entering and exiting) with a turn heading into the site. A 4WD vehicle will be necessary for anyone pulling an RV as we have had at least one guest get stuck halfway up the hill when exiting with a two-wheeled truck with a V8 engine pulling a small RV. In addition, you will likely need a brake-control system installed for coming down the hill. Front-wheel drive vehicles with high clearance should be satisfactory to cross the bridge and exit the steep hill as long as you are not pulling an RV.     I have two properties which offer two different kinds of camping, which I have tried to itemize separately in the Hipcamp listings. The pictures were hard to sort out.RV's and Campers will park on the upper level at the Panama Street address which has water and electricity. You cannot actually see the Ohio River from the parking lot, but it is a short walk. Any pictures of water were taken from the tent camping site. If you are in a large vehicle, but are looking to spend a lot of time by the river,, you can hope that the site is available for use, or book both sites. Tent campers set up their tents right beside the river. There is a very simple house with a bathroom, cold running water, electricity, and also provides shelter in bad weather. It's an unusual set up, as perhaps Hipcamper spots often are. On one hand I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere when I am on these (small, very not fancy) properties by the river. On the other, there are planes, trains, barges and pleasure boats, and motorcycles passing by at times. California is an about twenty minutes upstream from Cincinnati, the eastern-most neighborhood with a small town or quaint village feel. Safe, flat, scenic and walkable, California offers several dining experiences, one a brewery, and quite a variety of recreational experiences. Riverbend, Music Center, in season, is a mile away, walking distance, as is Belterra, the race track/casino. The bike trail is a few blocks away and connects to all the other area bike trails including the Loveland Bike Trail along the "Wild and Scenic" Little Miami River. A local nature preserve, California Woods, offers hiking and nature programs, and there is even the California Golf Course. A park with large, grassy open spaces and small playground is a few blocks away. Bring your game of horse shoes, corn hole, a frisbee to throw, your skateboard, golf cart, or some bikes just to cruise around and take in the scenery. The Little Miami River flows past Armleder Park a few miles away, which has a gravel river beach, a dog park, walking and biking trails and connects to the 5 mile loop around Lunken Airport. Downtown Cincinnati is a 15 or 20 minute drive . There is a lot to do in Cincinnati. My place in California is just a few minutes from the I 275 exit.

Originally built as Lock and Dam 38 in 1926 it is now a multi family apartment property with a large field and plenty of room to camp. Currently there are two sites and a outside community area. Each have a picnic table and fire ring. You can pull your car right up to your site. Bring your canoe or kayak as we have access to put your boat in right on the property. Or fish from the river bank. There is access to the indoor common area where you will find a bathroom with shower and a place to relax or get in from the weather. There are two coin operated laundry rooms and a soda machine onsite as well. This historic location is just 8 minutes to Rabbit Hash, 18 minutes to Big Bone Lick State Park, and 22 minutes to the Creation Museum. Either myself or one of my staff are onsite everyday if you have any questions or concerns.

A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING.     This is my home residence in the small town of Dry Ridge, KY. I am just 20 minutes from The Ark Encounter and historic Williamstown. I have a small pond to camp next to either with a tent or RV that has electric and water hookup outside of my detached garage. Behind the property and surrounding the farm of 125 acres is eagle creek. Swim, fish, canoe, or kayak for additional fun and relaxation. There are walking trails and if not too congested side by sides are welcome as well. If the creek is low, there is a lot of fun to be had collecting clamshells and other various unique items that the waters bring. Wood can be purchased for campfires if desired. A small fire pit will be beside the campsite and a larger one down by the creek. Come sit by the pond and fall asleep to the sound of the frogs chirping and other wildlife.

You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING. NO FIRES as the site benefits from the shade and protection of overhanging cedar trees and the ground is covered in cedar needles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING.     This is my home residence in the small town of Dry Ridge, KY. I am just 20 minutes from The Ark Encounter and historic Williamstown. I have a small pond to camp next to either with a tent or RV that has electric and water hookup outside of my detached garage. Behind the property and surrounding the farm of 125 acres is eagle creek. Swim, fish, canoe, or kayak for additional fun and relaxation. There are walking trails and if not too congested side by sides are welcome as well. If the creek is low, there is a lot of fun to be had collecting clamshells and other various unique items that the waters bring. Wood can be purchased for campfires if desired. A small fire pit will be beside the campsite and a larger one down by the creek. Come sit by the pond and fall asleep to the sound of the frogs chirping and other wildlife.

    The good! It was a wonderful camp spot! Completely private (unless someone drives by on the driveway, but we only had one person do that), and so shaded it felt like it dropped 20 degrees! Perfectly lovely camping spot! The bad. The driveway - Once you leave the road, you will turn left onto a steep, long, gravel driveway. If you are pulling a travel trailer (even a small one like we were), you won't have a good way to turn around once on this driveway so DO NOT attempt this hill with an RV unless you have a proper braking system installed for your RV. Also, do not attempt this hill with a two-wheel drive if you are pulling an RV, even a small RV. We got stuck going back up the driveway when leaving because we only had a two-wheel drive (it even has a V8 bus-size engine), and had to have our small travel trailer pulled out. The bridge - At the bottom of the driveway is a concrete bridge. The entrance and exit to the bridge has a decently steep embankment. I thought we would be fine because our small RV has off-road tires, allowing the RV to sit up high off the ground, but upon leaving, we scrapped the bottom, slightly damaging the bottom of our RV. In order to continue forward, we had to place large rocks from the creek under the RV tires a few times to get it to the level of the bridge without damaging it further. I would go and stay there again, but this time, I would just bring my car with a tent. It's a lovely tent camping spot!

    Really enjoyed this location. Very clean and well maintained. The parking pads and hookups all appeared to be brand new. Right on the water with spectacular views, including sunsets and sunrises. Very relaxing. Stayed there 4th of July weekend, and had awesome views of the fireworks up and down the river. Large fire pit that I would have enjoyed using it it wasn't so hot out. Host was very responsive after booking.

    We love staying at Hones Point. We stayed in the newer RV sites this time. We enjoyed access to potable water and 50/30 amp service. Had no issues with our 35 TT. Though they don’t currently have shade at the RV sites, Steve has planted several young trees nearby. We were pleasantly surprised by the free-ranging sheep, donkey, and pony. Steve delivers firewood directly to your site, and accepts electronic payments if you forget your cash! We enjoyed cooling off in the Little Kentucky River just steps away—bring your water shoes!

    Our family loved tent camping on Josh’s land. It was so beautiful, and the spot was peaceful and secluded. We took a walk down to the creek and skipped rocks, and loved hearing and seeing all the birds. The toilet and shower were greatly appreciated as well. Josh was kind and made sure the path to our site was well marked. I’m grateful we were able to experience Kentucky by camping here, and would love to come back.

    This place checked all the boxed for us. I brought my 7 yo here and he was able to play in the creek and catch crawdads while I set up camp. Then, I helped him catch some crawdads, and we eventually took a dip in the bigger creek, which was refreshing on a very hot day. The site was also shady and private--you can see a house up on a hill if you walk onto the bridge, but it isn't close enough to see people clearly. The host was very responsive. Remember to turn your phone off of roaming (or heck, just turn it off), as it will drain the battery when you are in camp. I got service once I was back up on the road. I would come back here again, for sure.

    We arrived late which was a bummer because Josh has an amazing setup! He had a place for us to sit and eat along with grill. He had a fire pit with a bench. It was the perfect setup! The bathroom and shower were super clean! After we arrived we got setup with our tent and we just stared out the ceiling because the stars were breathtaking. Did I mention my dog loved it there too? Because he did! I walked him in the morning and he loved every bit of it. 10/10 highly recommend!

    We loved the relaxing feel of Steve's place-quiet and lots of beautiful and private spots along the river. It was a wonderful stopover and we were greeted by the sweetest sheep, goats, and a couple of curious donkeys. Steve and his son are super friendly and welcoming. The road in is narrow and winding with little to no shoulder. I'm glad we arrived before dark. Once in though, it was totally worth it. I'd definitely return next time we're passing through Louisville.
