5 nights at Handyland

Beautiful and open space foe camping. The views, weather and property where better than expected. My boys loved the creek! We typically like to not stay in the same place twice but this might be an exception. Keep in mind this is tick country so come prepared and check often.

1 night at Hones Pointe Campground

We loved the relaxing feel of Steve's place-quiet and lots of beautiful and private spots along the river. It was a wonderful stopover and we were greeted by the sweetest sheep, goats, and a couple of curious donkeys. Steve and his son are super friendly and welcoming. The road in is narrow and winding with little to no shoulder. I'm glad we arrived before dark. Once in though, it was totally worth it. I'd definitely return next time we're passing through Louisville.

Fantastic campsite. Perfectly level side to side; didn't even have to use leveling blocks. Steve was great. It was neat waking up to sheep and a donkey roaming through the site.

Weekend Trip to A Notch Above-RV Riverside Campsite

This site is so relaxing and the sunsets are beautiful. When its dark it's a glow on the water that makes mysterious a whole vibe. We was the only ones there so it was peaceful. The concrete pads are level and a nice size made setting up super easy. Randy was there but gave us our space which we appreciated that. Definitely a nice quick getaway for us, we'll definitely be back for sure!!!

The property was well maintained, Steve and his helper stopped in to see if we needed anything. I got a camper site as I needed the electicity, but that was a mistake the creekside tent sites in the woods were amazing and would have been a great stay. This isn't in anyway discrediting the site I was in it was also great just not burried in the trees by a creek

Great spot, I wish we would have been able to stay longer. The rain forecast was wet for our first night there and since we didn't have far to travel from home, Richard let us know we could cancel the first night if we needed to, even last minute due to rain. He was very easy going. There store is amazing. Great music, drinks, people, and awesome vibes.

We only stayed one night, but Steve’s property was beautiful! Very welcoming and comfortable. Our dogs loved walking the property with us and visiting all their new goats and sheep friends!

Weekend Trip to Camping Along the Old Bison Trail

I had an amazing stay at Steepleview Farms! The tent site was spacious with plenty of room to spread out and set up camp comfortably. Marcus was an excellent host—super communicative and responsive to both texts and calls, which made everything smooth from start to finish. The site itself is peaceful and private, surrounded by trees with plenty of trails to explore nearby. The fire pit was a great touch, and having a porta-potty on-site was really convenient. Firewood was also available for purchase, which made campfires easy and enjoyable. Honestly, there was nothing I didn’t like about this place. If you’re looking for a quiet, well-maintained campsite with a reliable host and great amenities, I highly recommend Steepleview Farms!

1 night at Camping Along the Old Bison Trail

This was our first time using Hipcamp, and we had a great experience. The host was great to communicate where our site was located. It was a peaceful, quiet night. I’ll be using the platform again, and I would consider staying here again if in the area.

Weekend Trip to Camp Kokovoko

We stayed at the Dixon Hilltop Campsite. It is beautiful and secluded. If you like primitive camping - this is the place for you. Sunrises over the hill with a cup of cowboy coffee are amazing. Our kids were able to roam around, but we still felt very safe and comfortable with them out of our site. Kokovoko Farm is a lovely "little" working farm. If you take the time to talk to the host Leslie you will get lots of lovely little insights to the farm and a great history of the Gotland ponies she raises. Fair warning this is primitive camping and about as close to backpacking with out moving everyday that you can get. So if you expect easy camping with electricity, toilets and lots of water - this is not for you. If that sound great to you then this is the perfect little slice of camping heaven!

I loved tent camping here! The property is gorgeous and so well maintained, and the hospitality is unmatched. I brought my kids here for their first “real” camping trip and we loved every single minute of it- thanks so much for having us!

We had a great weekend tent camping on Gobbler’s Knob. The site felt private and the property was very quiet (besides the lovely birds!). The outhouse was clean and well stocked, and the firewood nearby was super convenient. We would definitely camp here again!

We had a great time at Carriage House Farm! Richard the host was gracious and outgoing and wanted to make our stay enjoyable. The sites are spaced apart to provide privacy and have a long picnic table and a grill. A short stroll down the hill and you arrive at Lost Brigde Brewing Company. We enjoyed several live bands and local brews with a nicely stocked bar. Great chill vibe here and very dog friendly. Wonderful place to hang out. We'll definitely return!

Teri and Mike were great hosts. The camp site was absolutely perfect for our group. Abundant space for multiple tents to spread out and a central gathering space for fire and dining. We've already started discussing dates for our next visit. And yes, the Pit Toilet is as great as everyone says.

We recently moved from the next county over and are enjoying making this place ours and improvements for guests. Property is 15 minutes south of Cincinnati, close to the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG), close to restaurants and attractions such as Kings Island (approximately 1 hour), Creation Museum (approximately 25 minutes) and The Ark (approximately 25 minutes). Also nearby are several state parks and local favorites such as Big Bone State park, Rabbit Hash,and Riverbend. We have 2 dogs who walk with us on leash and recently added chickens and goats! Elmer and Clyde do like to wander and explore. They are very friendly. Learn more about this land: Gravel driveway leads up to both spots. We do try to keep it maintained, but frequently rain causes ruts faster than we can fill. It should not impede drivability, but use caution and feel free to ask if you have any concerns. #1 improvement planned is paving driveway. You may also experience some vehicle noise from roadway. Typically, as we are on a back road, it is fairly quiet but some drivers may be louder than others and some evenings see more traffic. Level gravel area for RV parking, second plateau available for multiple tent sites. Campfires in designated area. Deer, wild turkeys, opossums and raccoons are plentiful and often wander through. Less common are foxes and bald eagles that make their home at Doe Run Lake nearby. Main home on property but only close enough for assistance, not interference. Homesteading in progress with many improvements being added. Property is close to Creation Museum and the Ark. 10 minutes from restaurants and expressway but feels like a retreat. Ohio River experience

California, Ohio is a community on the Ohio River about a twenty minute drive upstream from Cincinnati. Actually the eastern-most neighborhood of Cincinnati, it has it's own small town or quaint village atmosphere. Safe, flat, scenic and walkable, California boasts several dining experiences, one a brewery, and quite a variety of recreational experiences. Riverbend, a music venue in season, is a mile away, possible walking distance, as is Belterra, a race track and casino. The bike trail is a few blocks away and connects to all the other area bike trails including the Loveland Bike Trail along the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River. A local nature preserve, California Woods, offers hiking and nature programs, and there is even the California Golf Course. If watching baseball leagues play games is your cup of tea, there is a large sports complex with ball fields in California. A town park with trees and large, grassy open spaces and small playground is a few blocks away. Bring your game of horse shoes, corn hole, a frisbee to throw, your skateboard, golf cart, or some bikes just to cruise around and take in the scenery. Nearby, and right the Wild and Scenic Little Miami River is Armleder Park, also with walking and biking trails which also connect to the 5 mile loop around Lunken Airport. I have two properties which offer two different kinds of camping, which I have itemized separately in the Hipcamp listings. RV Campers will park on the upper level at the Panama Street address , and have one set of amenities. It is a short walk lead down to the Ohio River where there is a small patio with table and chairs overlooking the river. Tent campers set up their tents right beside the river and have a different set of amenities, as itemized on this website. It's an unusual set up, as perhaps Hipcamper spots often are. It is interesting and relaxing to watch the barges and pleasure boats go by. On one hand I feel like I am in the middle of nowhere when I am on these (small, very not fancy) properties by the river. On the other, there are planes, trains, barges and pleasure boats, and motorcycles passing by at times. The River can be mesmerizing and serene, shimmering in the western sun, or busy with weekend pleasure boats and barge traffic. Take a walk around town, then sit by the river and watch the boats go by. Relax, set up your grill and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Ohio River. Perfect for river rats. Downtown Cincinnati is 15 or 20 minutes away with no traffic, and there are two or three ways to get there. There is a lot to do in Cincinnati. My place in California is just a few minutes from the I 275 exit.

I have a small pond to camp next to either with a tent or RV that has electric and water hookup outside of my detached garage. Behind the property and surrounding the farm of 125 acres is eagle creek. Swim, fish, canoe, or kayak for additional fun and relaxation. There are walking trails and if not too congested side by sides are welcome as well. If the creek is low, there is a lot of fun to be had collecting clamshells and other various unique items that the waters bring. Wood can be purchased for campfires if desired. A small fire pit will be beside the campsite and a larger one down by the creek. Come sit by the pond and fall asleep to the sound of the frogs chirping and other wildlife.

Part of our 300 acre property is part of the conservation easement that makes up the "Oxbow," a migratory bird and waterfowl area that is popular among birdwatchers in the spring and autumn seasons. Our end-of-the road, ridgetop property means privacy. Our isolated campsites are surrounded by woods full of turkey, deer, owls, and woodpeckers. Onsite there are wide, easy strolling paths, a growing number of single-track hiking trails, open fields, and forest. And if not booked, a historic log home to explore and do some porch sitting. A great place for solo campers, friends, and families, whether newbies or experienced. Drive-in sites make unloading/loading easy peasey. Standard amenities include privacy - we only book two sites at any time, which are far apart from each other and surrounded by woods. Also, an exceptional outhouse, tables, fire rings, lanterns, Welcome kit (paper, fatwood, lighter, candle). And onsite firewood purchased during booking or while onsite. Site 1 - Open Sky accommodates solo or the group, tents to small campers. It comes with extra amenities: hammock, trampoline, (badminton & cornhole by request). It's also closest to the cabin, strolling trails, firewood shed, outhouse. Site 2 - Gobbler's Knob is a more cozy space - a small rise surrounded by forest. A short walk from the outhouse and firewood shed. It can accommodate pop-ups, small pull-behinds, tents, hammocks. Vehicles can park on site or park at site entrance, just 50'.
