My 4 and a half acres have a natural pond on it. I no longer own a personal flock of ducks but plenty of wild feathered friends come to drink and swim. I am three miles from Lake Michigan and my town has a public access beach. I am surrounded by wineries, breweries, and antique stores. I am in the country but only a few miles off the expressway. Berrien County's adorable small towns are known for their special events all year round. My sites are dispersed so first come first choice. Find a fixed Fire Ring and set up your camp! Or pick a spot without a ring - I do have portable free fire pits.

This is a 3rd generation "Family Farm" of a different sort I suppose. Seems there's a bit of everything here, and arguably not enough of anything. At least for conventional farming. So we've learned to do things a bit differently. Our main crop is wine and juice grapes since our topography, climate, and soil type makes it a premier location for that. But with 30+ acres of forested hillsides, low ground, and natural areas we've evolved into a mixed farm and forest enterprise. Our goal is to utilize the productivity of all our property while still retaining the basic character and usefulness of the wild areas. Letting each thing be what it wants to be and does best on it's own. Flow, not force. So our year starts early with tapping maple trees and making maple syrup. Plus there's grape trimming about this time as well. When the forest floor starts to green up a bit later, we start digging Ramps, or Wild Leeks in the woods. Most of these will go to the more trendy Chicago restaurants, but we also have some local sales. Next comes inoculating winter-cut logs with Shiitake spawn for next years mushroom production. This year we also conducted a few hands-on workshop seminars on mushroom growing as well. Then it's on to our raised bed herb & veggie gardens. (Fresh herbs are just so much fun to cook with!) We grow enough for our own yearly use, as well as some for direct sales. Summer keeps us busy tending all the different crops here and trying to keep up. But there's that steady progression of fresh veggies to eat. Yum !!! Fall brings our annual Grape U-Pick in September and October. And we try to time related crops like mums, pumpkins, and gourds for this same time frame. Makes the place a bit more interesting. Late fall is when we bring in firewood to heat the house and workshop. Stacks of wood everywhere. Hopefully before the 1st snow. In winter it's time to fire up the woodworking shop and be a bit creative. Build furniture, equipment maintenance, who knows what next years projects will include. I like to keep everybody guessing. So, that's what goes on here. You're welcome to check it out, lend a hand, relax back at camp, walk the vineyards and/or forest, or just breathe and relax. That's up to you. But I would recommend visiting a few of the fine local wineries. Seems there's a festival going on at one or another of them just about every weekend. Good music, good wine, good times. And there's the Lake Michigan beaches a few miles down the road.Yeah, this is a pretty casual place here, love meeting new people, very open to civil discussions of all sorts. However, rude, ill mannered people will probably enjoy staying elsewhere. Just say'n.

The Man's Annex AKA the MANNEX!

Thank you for stopping to look at our Hipcamp, The Mannex — short for the Man’s Annex, since I have a pole barn with my tools and toys on this property. This is my second year hosting campers, and my first year was such a hit that I decided to raise the bar for our guests. We really enjoyed meeting everyone who came through and helping them visit the beautiful Indiana Dunes National Park, which this campsite sits right inside of. Because of our prime location inside the Dunes National Park boundaries and how nicely this camp is set up, I’m confident this is one of the best Hipcamps in Northwest Indiana by a long shot! The Mannex is a couple-acre property located between HWY 12 and the South Shore Tracks (an electric interurban train). There’s a station just 0.4 miles to the west for quick day trips to Chicago! We are 1.4 miles from the beach. Bring bikes so you can lock up at the beach and skip the parking hassle — spots are tough to get in summer, and you’ll need a National Park parking pass. We’ve upgraded the site with an improved firepit, two Trex chairs, and a side table. There are two 13’ Pawleys Island two-person hammocks, string lights on a timer and dimmer, running water, 30-amp RV service, and 110v power. A lockbox has amenities: area guide, bug spray, extension cords, fire starters, matches, lanterns, Frisbees, footballs, and bean bags for cornhole. Seasoned firewood is included (please use the wire mesh dome on the pit). We also have a Trex octagonal picnic bench, and new this year — a deluxe flushable outhouse with sink so you don’t have to fill your holding tank. Because of that, we now welcome tent campers too! Aside from hiking the dunes and enjoying the beaches, the Mannex is centrally located to lots of great spots. Beverly Shores is an Official Bird Town USA and a hotbed for birdwatching — you might even spot our local celebrities, a mated pair of Bald Eagles and their eaglet! Good eats nearby at The Goblin and Grocer (family-friendly with a great bar and outdoor seating) and Joe & Freddie’s to the east with excellent bar food. We hope you come enjoy a stay at The Mannex and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore!

20 acres of beauty! Nestled in the middle of the 20 acres is a great clearing for a camp site or RV. We have a Porto Jon on site that is cleaned weekly. Due to high energy costs we are no longer able to provide electrical and water hook up. BYOW. Sorry. Newly added Gazebo to get out of the rain! Explore all of our trails and enjoy your camping experience without anyone around you. The millions of stars are amazing. Plenty of wildlife to observe. The nearby Dowagiac creek offers rental of kayaks to travel down the creek on a hot day (10 mins away). The local town of Dowagiac also offers many great restaurants and activities during the summer. Swimming in the local lakes is a great cool off as well. Come enjoy the fresh air and leave the wifi behind! Welcome packet sent upon booking.
