Places of Sanctuary has 30 Acres of woods which include several dedicated hiking trails with beautiful clearings and benches for resting and reflecting along the way. You're welcome to fish in the pond where there is plenty of shade and sun or sit around the bonfire site on the benches provided and roast marshmallows. With two easy-access large tree houses, swings and a big picnic shelter, there's lots of room to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. You might encounter wildlife like deer, mink, ducks or geese, but you're sure to see our chickens running around and hear our rooster crow in the morning. Depending on the time and season, we offer several hands-on experiences with berry picking, chicken tending, food processing, gardening, and general light land maintenance like checking the trails for down limbs and trash. With gorgeous views and the convenience of being just 10 minutes from University Southern Indiana or 15 minutes from restaurants and stores, we welcome you to camp with us. Working, 110 acre family farm of heritage breed livestock, nestled in a historic limestone quarry on the banks of the White River, on one side, and Fall Creek, on another. Dispersed with lots of space between campsites and are often all to yourself. Learn about regenerative farming with rare breeds on a farm tour, or mining and wetlands restoration on an ecological history tour. Pet and feed the livestock. Fish and bird-watch. Take a yoga class (at times with goats or bunnies) in the center of the stone henge. Have coffee with goats. Take a donkey stroll. Eat farm craft meats, eggs, prepared soups, casseroles, and baked goods, or hop into town for a bite. Across the river from McCormick's Creek State Park (Indiana's first state park with miles of trails, a swimming pool, and lodge). Just two miles north of Spencer, a small town with an excellent brew pub, winery, cafe, and more. Just 12 miles north is Cataract Falls State Recreation Area. Only 20 minutes from Bloomington and Indiana University; 45 minutes from Indianapolis Int'l Airport. This is a working farm with lots of livestock, electric fences, and working dogs, so please leave the farm animals alone unless someone from the farm is available and present. Dogs must be on a leash in the camping area, given the above features of a working livestock farm, the quarry ruins, the operative railroad tracks, and the river (not suitable for swimming), family friendly (children under the age of 18 must be attended by adults at all times).
*We have lots of on-farm food and supplies options, please contact us for a complete list and any requests. All sites have a private stone fire circle as well as access to a common grill, handwashing station, porta potty or septic outhouse, cold/solar water shower.

This was my first time here, and the whole property is amazing. Site 12 is really private, but seems like most of the sites are. The ‘camp ground’ is incredibly maintained but also feels like you’re in the middle of the woods. The trails are fun to hike- there were more than I thought there’d be. Tons of birds, if you’re into that.
Best part about the property is Brian. He’s such a good host- checks in as needed, very friendly and helpful. It’s obvious how much he cares about the land, forest, and creatures in it.
It was perfectly quiet during the weekdays.
Bonus for the firewood deliveries to the site. Premium seasoned hardwood Brian fells himself.

This is not your typical campground...make sure you have everything that you need before getting there, as it is out in the styx.

The land is BEAUTIFUL and secluded at Upper Vista. We peeked into the little cabin too and it’s so cute. We cooked dinner and breakfast on the fire easily. If you’re allergic to bees, definitely bring that EpiPen 😝 There are plenty of places to hike but the property is golden enough. We will definitely be back and for longer.

We have stayed here a hand full of times now and its still our favorite spot for a private getaway. Each campsite has been been a good fit for all our gear no matter the occasion, whether we brought our dogs or our friends.
Brians hiking trails also help make it feel like your the only one out there and thats personally how we like it (great privacy/not many people).
And on top of that Brian is a super cool host. He wouldn't hesitate to lend a helping hand and has even introduced us to new fishing spots that we didnt even know were there.
I Definitely recommend Walnut valley🌳 to those who enjoy a Secluded country camp out! ⛺️

I loved camping here! The trails were clean and easy to navigate, the bathrooms are extremely clean and well maintained, and the views of the sunset and blossoming trees were absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to come back! I never got the chance to meet Robin but Bill is wonderful! Highly recommend if you want a peaceful getaway.❤️

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a short-notice camping trip, and we’re so glad we chose this farm. We booked the upper vista site and it was peaceful, secluded, and beautifully tucked away.. exactly what we were hoping for.
Even though we arrived later than planned, Phil and Lessie were incredibly nice, welcoming, and understanding. The next morning we woke up to the sound of Highland cows and a few donkeys, which was both funny and surprisingly relaxing. We enjoyed breakfast and coffee by the fire while taking it all in.
We were greeted by the owners’ sweet, friendly dogs, and later got to tour the farm. It was so much fun seeing the goats, Highland cows, donkeys, and especially watching their cattle dog proudly show off his herding skills. Lessie shared so much interesting information about the farm and the history behind the animals, you can tell she truly loves what she does.
Overall our stay was amazing, peaceful, and refreshing. We’ve already planned to come back, and next time we’re bringing our kids and family. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy a unique farm experience!
