About half of the 20 acres is wooded, which is where three of our camp sites, Hammock Haven are located. Each site has a fire ring & picnic table. Three camp sites are located in the pasture. One is at the bottom of the pasture (1) and quite open. It can accommodate larger groups with multiple tents. It can also take a larger RV. A more secluded site (5) is half open and half in light woods., and is located at the top of the pasture. The others are in the middle of the pasture, 2 for sun lovers and 3 for those who prefer more shade. For those who prefer more seclusion, we have cleared three sites in the woods. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. Some have fire wood boxes (we’re working on making a box for all sites). We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. This is free. A coffee bar is on the back deck. Coffee is brewing around 7am. We also provide hot water, teas, hot chocolate and cider. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack. This is all free, though small donations are welcomed. Our goats, poultry, pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs and produce take up about an acre and a half. Then the rest is open space. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (additional fee). Use the BBQ or smoker. And even join in on farm chores if you are so inclined. Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way). We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option. We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy. We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs. There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it. At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

The brothers did not get along and their are several stories of their warring on how to maintain the property.My parents bought this piece of property in 1964 and created a camp called "Lakeside Farm Camp", a small all boys camp. Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way). We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option. We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy. We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs. There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it. At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

1 night at Blooming Bus Farms

The place looked great when we arrived, especially lit up at night. Inside, it had that familiar campfire-and-wood smell that made it feel comfortable right away. The heated blanket was the saving grace of the stay. It was in the 30s, and the small radiator heater struggled to keep up, so most of the evening was spent bundled up together under the blanket. The cabin is very small, and the property itself isn’t large either, so you can hear some street noise. Being close to town was convenient, though. We grabbed Chinese carry-out and it was surprisingly good after a cold day. Leslie was thrilled to meet the alpacas, which added a fun moment to the trip. There are several areas set up for groups, and I would definitely come back with friends. The space works well for hanging out and enjoying a simple, low-key getaway.

The bus is adorable, the Whitney provided information ahead of time and then was always responsive when I had questions. The clubhouse looks like a great place to spend time...though I wasn't there long at all - just a quick stop-over on a road trip. I wish I'd had more time to explore because the images online don't seem to do it justice. It was cold November night and I got a head's up from Whitney - and they provided a small propane heater. I knew I was taking a risk booking when I did, but I very much appreciated the thought. Still, I woke up to snow, which I absolutely hadn't expected! The location is definitely out of the way (a benefit), but somewhere I'd go out of my way to go back to for a longer stay.
