We have five campsites in 135 acres of acres of forest and ranch land in our working cattle and sheep ranch. Located in a serene valley in the Ozark Highlands, the Ranch has Sheep, Scottish Highland Cattle, Chickens, Ducks and Great Pyrenees livestock guard dogs (only in the sheep pastures - and they are friendly). If you want to meet our animals and see the farm we are happy to show you around!
This is a unique site located in the Ozark Highlands. Only 45 minutes from Cape Girardeau (a small river town on the Mississippi), and 45 minutes from the Arcadia Valley including Taum Sauk mountain (the highest point in Missouri), Elephant Rocks, the Johnston Shutins, and other beautiful areas in the highlands.
The farm is five minutes from Marble Hill, which is home to the Bollinger County Natural History museum which highlights the only dinosaur bones found in Missouri. The bones were found at a farm in Glennallen (a few minutes from our farm) as well as a great barbeque (Jay’s Restaurant) and a good catfish restaurant (Jers Restaurant). On the way to our farm, feel free to stop at the 1,700 foot deep artesian well to get a cool, refreshing jug of natural artesian well water – the water is free, but you have to bring your own containers!

Beautiful easy access outdoor secluded camping, near the small towns of Anna-Jonesboro and Cobden, IL. Located nearby is the Blue Boar, Dixie BBQ, Brickhouse Grill, Iron Whisk, and other restaurants to enjoy. Hicks Haven is located in the heart of Southern Illinois Wine Trail. There are several award winning wineries in our area. At least a dozen wineries are as close as 5 to 30 minutes from the campsite.
Several lakes are in the area and Parks with easy and rough terrain hiking paths. Just minutes away in Jonesboro is the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds which is home of one of the Lincoln/Douglas Debates. There are bluffs in the Shawnee National Forest Trail of Tears and plenty of other trails and parks just a short drive away.

Welcome to Monarch Hill! Tucked away in the hills of Ste. Genevieve County, we enjoy watching the sun rise and set over our secluded pastures and vineyards.
Our hilltop sites offer an open area with fire rings and picnic tables, great for groups or social butterflies. These offer well water at the nearby barn for drinking and showering.
The Seclusion sites are private escapes for those who want to immerse themselves in the sounds of nature. Take in the chirps of frogs, birds and crickets at these isolated sites.
We offer a complimentary wood basket with every booking, and have additional fire-building supplies available. Be sure to check out our experiences to make the most of your stay, and don't forget to reserve a s'more kit!

Camping spots available for the Solar Eclipse 2024 from April 6 through April 9.
Only 15 min. from Bald Knob Cross and Makanda, IL, 30 minutes from Carbondale, IL and close by Shawnee National Forest and State Parks. Camping Spaces are mostly 30 ft x 60 ft. Spaces are marked so campers can choose from available campsites upon arrival. Campers must be self-contained. Tents are welcomed. Grass Surface with No potable water, electrical hookups, or dump services. Porta-potties are available. Feel free to enjoy the community campfire, whereas wood is provided. Bring your lawn chairs and telescopes. Along with a fishing pole to fish in the nearby pond.
Beautiful easy access outdoor secluded camping, near the small towns of Anna-Jonesboro and Cobden, IL. Located nearby is the Blue Boar, Dixie BBQ, Brickhouse Grill, Iron Whisk, and other restaurants to enjoy. Hicks Haven is located in the heart of Southern Illinois Wine Trail. There are several award winning wineries in our area. At least a dozen wineries are as close as 5 to 30 minutes from the campsite.
Several lakes are in the area and Parks with easy and rough terrain hiking paths. Just minutes away in Jonesboro is the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds which is home of one of the Lincoln/Douglas Debates. There are bluffs in the Shawnee National Forest Trail of Tears and plenty of other trails and parks just a short drive away.

I had the most peaceful night here. Laura has an unbelievably beautiful piece of property! There is so much space to find a spot or roam around. The cabins are adorable and there is an outdoor shower. I would definitely recommend this Hipcamp to anyone!

It was a great experience the first time, so we came back. The hosts are warm and welcoming, and we love hiking through the fields with our dogs. It is a little off the beaten path but worth the drive. Quiet and private. If you are driving between the Southeast and the Midwest or the Northwest, this is a great place to stop.

I can't say enough good things about Wine Trail Wilderness. Jon and Carla are excellent hosts and took excellent care of our group when we were there. The whole vibe of the place is excellent and it's obvious they care about the happiness of their guests. Everything is well thought out, from the layout and privacy of each site down to smallest detail. I highly recommend staying there. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!!!!!

Fabulous! We arrived just as it got dark. The hosts greeted us to guide us to the spot to park. Super easy! Hosts were very friendly and welcoming! The camping site is beautiful. The dogs were free to run (and swim). It was peaceful and quiet. Would definitely recommend! We’ll be back!

The hiking club I'm a member of stayed at the Grainzebo site and we couldn't be more happy!!! Jon and Carla are simply the best. They accommodated a large group, basically catered to our needs and offered tips and suggestions on what to do and see in the area. The vibe at Wine Trail Wilderness is indescribable, great falls short of of our experience. Highly recommend and can't wait to get back. Keep up the great work!!!!

Burden Falls are just down the road, Garden of the Gods is about 30mins drive. Great hiking and sightseeing!
Sarah and Ron were very responsive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed.

We really enjoyed camping on the sandbar near the creek at Curt’s Cabin! My son and I went for an overnight getaway. The cabin was already being rented so we were offered that as an alternative. We visited Ste Genevieve on the way there from St Louis. The spot was quiet and really pretty and not too far off the highway. It was a bit sunny, but since we got there later in the afternoon it wasn’t too bad. There were tables and chairs and a little fire pit already there for us to use which was nice.

From the first communications, throughout the nearly week long stay, to the departure, Jon was extremely pleasant, helpful and professional. He set up our own compost ports-toilet, refilled water, and made sure us ladies were comfortable. The dogs appreciated the field area for play. The location was quiet and peaceful.

Jennifer & her husband were above and beyond accommodating! I booked last minute after the USFS campground I was trying to stay in was full, and so happy I stumbled upon Jennifer’s property instead. I was their first guest of the year, so I likely caught them off guard, but the property was absolutely perfect. I was looking for solitude, a bonfire, and clear view of the sky. This place was perfect; trees for hammocking, peaceful pond, perfect view of the sky (highly recommend for new moon or full moon!) And supplied firewood was an added bonus. When the weather shifted dramatically the day of my departure, Jennifer kindly offered an additional complimentary night if it meant safer travel for me the following day. I will absolutely stay here again!

My boyfriend and I travel a lot for both work and pleasure and this is definitely one of my favorite stays! This place was very peaceful. There is only dim lighting outdoors at night so the stars were amazing. Our host was very warm and welcoming as well.
The property is well kept but if you need to ask which port a potty to use, this may not be the right fit for you. You are more in nature than in the city.
Highly recommended!

I came in a warmer night in February so I had the place myself. Jon was a laid back and friendly host. His land is well maintained and the compost toilet is very clean and has a window for a view of the woods. I ordered a bottle of wine and Jon even brought me a wine glass and opener from the house to open it. I definitely would recommend and come back!
