Please note that we are off-grid, so there is no microwave oven. Attached to the cabin is an outdoor hot shower on one side and a private composting toilet on the other side. Solar provides electricity for the refrigerator and lamp only. There are no outlets available for high energy use such as hairdryers. Our house is approximately 200ft away with palms and mango trees growing between our house and the cabin. Electric fencing surrounds the entire driveway and building compound. It keeps our local feral pig friends from destroying our driveway and garden area. Parking is provided next to the cabin.

Your private space is a 20'x10' raised cabin that offers covered outdoor space as well as indoor accommodations. You will find the inside furnished with two full spring mattress bunk beds, a small eating bar overlooking our backyard area with two stool seats, a personal work area with an accommodating cooler for perishables (Please provide ice or we can arrange for block ice from our local general store if desired), and personal clothing storage, as well as wi-fi options. Your private cabin space does have full electricity separate from the commons, but still off grid so please refrain from using strong energy draw items like hair wands or instant heaters, such electrical items are not suited for off-grid electrical systems. Our Common space is open from 7a.m.-10p.m. During this time, you will have full access to a shared kitchen, as well a full bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower. The bathroom is available around the clock but after-hours hot water is off so please be aware if you're planning on taking a midnight shower. Please let us know if you need any amenities such as hot water or wi-fi after 10p.m. or before 7a.m. Please make note of these times and being off grid means that we schedules use of high energy items with the daylight hours, and we will set a timer for your convenience of smaller items like internet with advanced notice, otherwise we are very energy efficient in the commons, this is hipcamp, so please don't mistake us for a Hilton :) We are currently home to 4 wonderful dogs that may greet you as you drive up, 3 spectacular cats, 1 mischievous parrots, 3 goats, 12 chickens and 1 rooster. So please know there are animals present than are part of our Ohana. We ask for you to take into consideration that we are a "Working homestead" and we are "Off Grid" so there will be projects much like any farm setting, for this reason we are not suitable for infants or young Children. There are animals that can make noises, there are mulch piles always moving around, compost piles that might not be your cup of tea because they smell, but they certainly make great compost teas to help the flowers grow that smell beautiful right outside your window! There are small projects that may look like clutter, such as seed saving, or canning, but those small clutters grow the plants that fill those jars! On occasion we have people who overlook this reality of nature and our connection to it... possibly because they've seen too many staged reality shows or maybe they have never visited a real farm in person before, but we are grateful that the overwhelming majority of people who have had this attitude have left with an appreciation for nature many expressed they never knew they had!! Those guests have filled our hearts with their kind gratitude :) This is a place full of joyful work for us, so please understand we are a destination for many who love nature, and if you're afraid of dirt or nature in general, this might be a great opportunity to connect with what has always been waiting for you to discover!! Guest accessThe last two blocks into our homestead are rock road as we are a rural location. We will provide a map upon booking with the best access through our Ag-lots for your convenience. Other things to noteAlittle about our homestead;Please understand that we are off-grid, and while we've been off grid 8 years now, we've only been hosting stays like this for 3 years, and we see that we are a destination for many visitors looking for a nature bathing kind of experience, but it's not everyone' cup of coffee... Sooo speaking of coffee, if you are looking for things like an General Electric coffee pot or any electric coffee maker (that are literally designed to wastes energy to just make money) we probably aren't the best fit for your stay ... BUT ... If you want to experience home grown Cacao added to fresh ground coffee brewed Italian style to make an amazing Mocha, FRESH, then we can easily make that while showing you some great energy saving ideas to take home :) like make coffee the way our great grandparents made coffee, it tastes better and is really easier than one may think! We share some toasted homemade sourdough bread out of fresh harvested stocks too, but it again isn't an energy guzzling shinny toaster that does the toasting, it is a cast iron skillet that we toast on, just like our great grandparents did too... Actually one of my favorite skillets belonged to my Great Grandma, so this is the real deal :) Come up and join us when we turn the commons on at 7a.m. if you're interested. We have very little light pollution which will afford beautiful star gazing on clear nights, and epic full moons!! But this means that you should use a flashlight or headlamp which we can provide at your leisure. We don't poop in a bucket in the woods, we actually have a working toilet, and Hot water for showers, a gas powered full range stove. But we also compost and make methane for 100% green energy use... There are chickens and goats, parrots, Dogs & Cats. We have been told by some that it is too cluttered, and by others you make me our home look clean our kitchen table (3'x9') always has some sort of a project on it. One guest said they were so happy to see so much going on as they sat watching us make bread, while another was upset that they didn't have a private kitchen. We feel we are very affordable for what we have to share, and if you feel this description will not fit your needs, then please don't book us because we're affordable. Trust us if we could offer a private kitchen it would only raise our price. We really hope more than anything to share and inspire what a homestead is, and that even in a suburb, or a rural apartment there are small things we can do to save energy and bring ourselves closer to nature!!

Access to Volcanoes National Park and Kehena Beach. Learn more about this land: Lava covered the site on 5 September 1990, after more than a thousand years of peaceful fertility. The flow met the Hakuma horst and was diverted north, filling the village of Kalapana and the beautiful Kaimu Bay. Lava continued to flow in the area for another 20 years, until 2011. We are restoring the fertility by bringing in mulch and soil and planting coconuts, mango trees, moringa, plumeria, figs, dragonfruits, and more. Near the camp sites we've recently constructed a house out of local wood; it provides some shelter from the nearly constant trade winds. Premium strawberry guava BBQ firewood can be purchased by prior arrangement. There's a shower with cold water; it doesn't get very cold! 1 mile from ocean cliffs, 2 miles to a basic grocery store and a great weekly farmers market, 2.5 miles to Volcanoes National Park, 5 miles to Kehena public black sand beach at the base of the cliffs, with a community drum circle on Sundays. Welcome to the wild coast of South Puna! Optionally produce from our nearby rainforest garden. We may offer guided tours to local historical caves and bicycle trips to hidden beaches deep inside Volcanoes National Park.

Hakalau Springs Campground sits on 11 acres with two springs bordering the property with a variety of fruit trees and farm animals to interact with. We offer basic campsites with picnic tables, drinking water, a fire pit, a composting toilet, and a pop-up tent in case it rains. You will be camping on soft grass amongst giant Ironwood and eucalyptus trees while listening to the soft sounds of the creek below. Take a swim in the spring-fed waterfall swimming hole and relax by the fire pit at night. We also offer our beautiful 2 room tent fully furnished with a queen-sized air mattress, cozy bedding, lantern, and camping lounge chairs. Cooler upon request, you provide the ice. We’re blessed to be located on the rainy side of the island because of all the abundance and greenery the rain brings. That being said, please be prepared for the weather. It can rain hard at times so having a good rain jacket is a great idea. On the other hand, people say that a sunny day on the east side of the big island is the best place to be in all of Hawaii. The homestead is run by 6,000 watt solar-power and a rain-catchment system with a 4,500 gallon water tank. Volcano National Park is only 15 minutes away; Punaluʻu black sand beach is 30 minutes; Ka Lae (South Point) is about 1.5 hours; and Hoʻokena Bay is about two hours. We are closest to Hilo (45 minutes). Kona is a 2.5 hour drive.

In addition to growing food, we are also raising many animals and two children! You will see the girls up early in the morning playing with our three temple cats. We are committed to living in harmony with the land, and as such we are mostly off-grid and catch our own water. We sort all of our trash meticulously for recycling. Currently plastic is NOT recycled on this island, so our Kuleana (responsibility) is to buy as little plastic as possible. Your private space is a 20'x10' raised cabin that offers covered outdoor space as well as indoor accommodations. You will find the inside furnished with two full spring mattress bunk beds, a small eating bar overlooking our backyard area with two stool seats, a personal work area with an accommodating cooler for perishables (Please provide ice or we can arrange for block ice from our local general store if desired), and personal clothing storage, as well as wi-fi options. Your private cabin space does have full electricity separate from the commons, but still off grid so please refrain from using strong energy draw items like hair wands or instant heaters, such electrical items are not suited for off-grid electrical systems. Our Common space is open from 7a.m.-10p.m. During this time, you will have full access to a shared kitchen, as well a full bathroom with both an indoor and outdoor shower. The bathroom is available around the clock but after-hours hot water is off so please be aware if you're planning on taking a midnight shower. Please let us know if you need any amenities such as hot water or wi-fi after 10p.m. or before 7a.m. Please make note of these times and being off grid means that we schedules use of high energy items with the daylight hours, and we will set a timer for your convenience of smaller items like internet with advanced notice, otherwise we are very energy efficient in the commons, this is hipcamp, so please don't mistake us for a Hilton :) We are currently home to 4 wonderful dogs that may greet you as you drive up, 3 spectacular cats, 1 mischievous parrots, 3 goats, 12 chickens and 1 rooster. So please know there are animals present than are part of our Ohana. We ask for you to take into consideration that we are a "Working homestead" and we are "Off Grid" so there will be projects much like any farm setting, for this reason we are not suitable for infants or young Children. There are animals that can make noises, there are mulch piles always moving around, compost piles that might not be your cup of tea because they smell, but they certainly make great compost teas to help the flowers grow that smell beautiful right outside your window! There are small projects that may look like clutter, such as seed saving, or canning, but those small clutters grow the plants that fill those jars! On occasion we have people who overlook this reality of nature and our connection to it... possibly because they've seen too many staged reality shows or maybe they have never visited a real farm in person before, but we are grateful that the overwhelming majority of people who have had this attitude have left with an appreciation for nature many expressed they never knew they had!! Those guests have filled our hearts with their kind gratitude :) This is a place full of joyful work for us, so please understand we are a destination for many who love nature, and if you're afraid of dirt or nature in general, this might be a great opportunity to connect with what has always been waiting for you to discover!! Guest accessThe last two blocks into our homestead are rock road as we are a rural location. We will provide a map upon booking with the best access through our Ag-lots for your convenience. Please travel safe and plan for our check-in between 3p.m. and 9p.m. with early and late check-in avalible with approved notice :) Parking is available to either side at the end of the driveway. Other things to noteAlittle about our homestead;Please understand that we are off-grid, and while we've been off grid 8 years now, we've only been hosting stays like this for 3 years, and we see that we are a destination for many visitors looking for a nature bathing kind of experience, but it's not everyone' cup of coffee... Sooo speaking of coffee, if you are looking for things like an General Electric coffee pot or any electric coffee maker (that are literally designed to wastes energy to just make money) we probably aren't the best fit for your stay ... BUT ... If you want to experience home grown Cacao added to fresh ground coffee brewed Italian style to make an amazing Mocha, FRESH, then we can easily make that while showing you some great energy saving ideas to take home :) like make coffee the way our great grandparents made coffee, it tastes better and is really easier than one may think! We share some toasted homemade sourdough bread out of fresh harvested stocks too, but it again isn't an energy guzzling shinny toaster that does the toasting, it is a cast iron skillet that we toast on, just like our great grandparents did too... Actually one of my favorite skillets belonged to my Great Grandma, so this is the real deal :) Come up and join us when we turn the commons on at 7a.m. if you're interested. We have very little light pollution which will afford beautiful star gazing on clear nights, and epic full moons!! But this means that you should use a flashlight or headlamp which we can provide at your leisure. We don't poop in a bucket in the woods, we actually have a working toilet, and Hot water for showers, a gas powered full range stove. But we also compost and make methane for 100% green energy use... There are chickens and goats, parrots, Dogs & Cats. We have been told by some that it is too cluttered, and by others you make me our home look clean our kitchen table (3'x9') always has some sort of a project on it. One guest said they were so happy to see so much going on as they sat watching us make bread, while another was upset that they didn't have a private kitchen. We feel we are very affordable for what we have to share, and if you feel this description will not fit your needs, then please don't book us because we're affordable. Trust us if we could offer a private kitchen it would only raise our price. We really hope more than anything to share and inspire what a homestead is, and that even in a suburb, or a rural apartment there are small things we can do to save energy and bring ourselves closer to nature!!

Blue Dragon Hot Yoga is a Private Membership Association offering preparation and support for the transformation of a lifetime! We offer daily Hot Yoga classes, 1-4 week Yoga Immersion programs, and yearly retreats. As a retreat space, we often host guests who are on cleanses and/or dieta, so it is of utmost priority to keep the energy on the land pure and clear. Therefore, there is no smoking of any kind, alcohol consumption, or taking of plant medicine while on site. We ask that you show up with your full presence, without the influence of any other energies. We have quiet hours before 7:30 am and after 7:30 pm to honor the retreat atmosphere. Wi-Fi hours are from 7 am to 8 pm; please let us know if you need the Wi-Fi outside of these hours. We encourage you to leave your devices off as much as possible to receive from the healing frequency of the Earth. Blue Dragon Hot Yoga is an also permaculture homestead featuring many hugelkulture garden beds growing staple foods like taro, pumpkin, cassava, sweet potato, and local greens. We have many young fruit trees in the ground and are blessed to have some mature trees currently producing banana, papaya, rollenia, & avocado. In addition to growing food, we are also raising many animals and two children! You will see the girls up early in the morning playing with our three temple cats. We are committed to living in harmony with the land, and as such we are mostly off-grid and catch our own water. We sort all of our trash meticulously for recycling. Currently plastic is NOT recycled on this island, so our Kuleana (responsibility) is to buy as little plastic as possible. We use only biodegradable and eco-friendly soaps, shampoo, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, etc. It’s a great experience in taking small actions to show our love to the ’āina (the land).

We stayed at both of Mae’s campsites for a week, and it was an amazing experience. The sites are thoughtfully equipped with hot showers, flush toilets, a sink, a sun/rain dome, a propane stove, and a campfire—everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We had planned to explore so much of the Big Island, but the campsite was so peaceful and nourishing that I often just wanted to stay there all day and do nothing. Mae is a wonderful host and such an interesting person to chat with. She welcomed us for morning tea and coffee and even shared delicious fruits from her farm. I would absolutely stay here again on my next visit to the Big Island. Highly recommended.

This camp was super fantastic. Our Host Mae was very caring for us (Malama ) and came to welcome us warmly when we arrive. The site was extraordinary with more than 2 acres just for us with a little lake , a place to play volleyball , a place to play balloon on a pole , and even a disc golf course that we could use with the disks furnished by the host!!! ..the restroom where the cleanest that I ever seen with , not one , but two showers and two restrooms And the showers were present with hot water. Everything was so clean. I could not believe it !! And the land: I thought for a moment that I was camping on a par 3 of Pebble Beach California !!! in supplement we had the right to pick up fruits from trees: Lemons, limes, oranges, finger, lemons, tangerines, and others !! We even had a very nice dog name Knob! That came and welcome us, and was really great with us!! In all, this was the best IPC experience that we ever had up to now! Thanks Mae! Jeff and Suzan

We loved our stay at Chris and Esther’s place! It was the perfect location—so close to Volcanoes National Park—and incredibly peaceful. Falling asleep to the sound of frogs at night was a unique experience for me. The space had everything we needed for a comfortable night’s sleep--we wish we’d had more time to stay longer. I loved that they gave us duck food so we could feed the ducks when we woke up. Their directions were clear, communication was easy, and everything felt welcoming and well thought-out.

Mae was such a kind and generous host! Bathroom and shower were well kept, water temp was warm initially, but Mae was super attentive to my needs and was nice enough to make the water hotter for me! The property was stunning and easy to find. The site was equipped with a pop up tent with a table to help provide shelter from the rain should you have to pack in or out when it's raining. The bathroom had a really cool map of the island with points of interest in addition to info about where the nearest pharmacy, gas station and other useful info was. Mae's house and property in general were such a peaceful place to decompress and enjoy the beauty of the big island when I wasn't out exploring. Great peaceful site to come back to and would definitely stay again!

My fiancé and I were very fortunate to instant book with Mae at her Moon Garden Farm midday. She's not only kind, but generous with sharing some of her tangerines with us! Her place was clean, quiet, and the facilities (toilet & shower) were very nice with evening ambient lights for late night use. We had some even rain showers, but the little pavilion/tent kept us dry as we cooked our evening dinner. I highly recommend staying at Mae's farm!

I loved staying at Campsite #4! There's a shelter above you, plus a picnic table and a chair on the site. The property has 2 toilets and 2 showers, and an open air kitchen. The property has lots of flowers and fruit trees, as well as the orchids. There is also a resident dog and a few cats. The animals are all awesome. The people are good too, especially the owner, George. Town is about a mile down the road, so it's off the beaten path but still convenient.

Lodging was clean, well maintained, and had everything you could really ask for; full kitchen (including stove and oven), hot shower, ceiling fan above the bed, nice little deck out front. The location is fantastic, it's at the back of the farm so sitting on the deck looking out you have a nice view of the rainbow eucalyptus trees, palm patches, and meadows, and total privacy to enjoy a morning coffee in peace. Hosts were amazing, very friendly and welcoming. Oh and there's ducks and peafowl all over who are very friendly and will come up to you for food. My only issue was that I didn't stay longer.

We absolutely loved it! Great location, private, tropical setting. It is awesome to go to bed with the rainforest sounds in the background. Wel maintained and clean cottage. We loved the ducks coming over to say hello in the morning (and that goes double for our 8 year old.)without waking us up. And if you never had duck eggs before : they are delicious! Esther and Christopher are great host, friendly, patient and helpful.

Nice and quiet place. In the kitchen you have everything to cook. The tent site was covered so in case of rain you are dry and safe. There is also a drinking water from the tap which is advantage. We love the dog and cats there. 😊
