As all the land here is born of lava, many moons ago this land began to host plants and critters. Long after, it was sculpted and a number of families and farmers have contributed to what we have today. An abundance of fruit and vegetables within sight of the ocean. Peaceful breezes and warming sun make for unparalleled tranquility. Today the land still gives back to its visitors. Come recharge. As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others. The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain. There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby. It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community. As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go. Our road is paved, but bumpy. Yip Camp provides a setting that promotes immersion in nature. Our seasonal changes are mild compared to the continental US. Summer months (May-September) are warmer and with more rain and the winters (Nov-April) are cooler and drier with temperatures dipping to the low 50's. You and your family will have this campsite all to yourselves as Silver Oak Sunsets has just one campsite. Our family plot is located on the top acre in an area known fondly as Grandma's Garden. Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. Shared bathroom (see photos) about a 100 feet away. Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest, No fridge. No oven. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires! It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious! This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve. We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

Our seasonal changes are mild compared to the continental US. Summer months (May-September) are warmer and with more rain and the winters (Nov-April) are cooler and drier with temperatures dipping to the low 50's. You and your family will have this campsite all to yourselves as Silver Oak Sunsets has just one campsite. Our family plot is located on the top acre in an area known fondly as Grandma's Garden. Enjoy the country life in Kau on the South End of the Big Island and the lovely red Lehua flowers blooming. We live on 20 acres on Road to the Sea, which has a remote green sand beach at the end of the road (4 miles down from us). We call our slice of paradise, Honua Laa (a sacred place). Straight down to the coast is a beautiful black and green sand beach and a huge tide pool. Rent a four-wheel-drive to get there. You don’t need a 4WD to get to our place, but you will need a SUV or truck. Go slow the road is bumpy and rough in places. We are 1.2 miles from the highway. Off the grid. Rustic, but fun. If you are a Eco tourist or seeking adventure, you will love our spot! The silence is golden and the stars are amazing. Don't expect a hotel...this is upcountry glamorous camping. Shared bathroom (see photos) about a 100 feet away. Hipcamp kitchenette includes a propane single burner, ice chest, No fridge. No oven. We have an outdoor fire pit, if you like campfires! It's one-of-a-kind! Most of the parcels are 20 acre parcels around… But a few smaller parcels across the road. We have nice neighbors who keep an eye on things. The nearest grocery store is about 3 miles away. The Hele-On Bus is just 1.2 miles up the road. If you want to drive to the green sand beach at the end of our road, rent a 4 wheel drive. If you are athletic, you can walk, but it is 4 miles down and 4 miles back. I recommend going early in the morning and take water. Hot water shower is propane. Bring ice for your ice chest. Bring drinking water. There is plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchenette. Boil hot water in the kettle, put cone filter with a paper filter and ground coffee inside and on top of thermos. Drip. It's delicious! This is off the grid solar and there can be days without sun, or other glitches. No wifi. I use ATandT and I understand that Verizon and Tmobile work also The panoramic ocean view is spectacular! Very peaceful and relaxing! The back 15 acres is an old Ohia forest with 500 year old trees and lots of birds. You might even see a wild goat or a wild pig. There are small caves and gorgeous rock formations. It backs up to Manuka Forest Reserve. We have beautiful furnished cabins with beds, so you don't have to pitch a tent. Pillows, blankets, fresh towels provided.

Bumpy road up for us in a sprinter van but slow and steady made it happen no problem. Colin was available and super helpful navigating us up and even telling us the best way to park our large van. We loved our stay at Chris and Esther’s place! It was the perfect location—so close to Volcanoes National Park—and incredibly peaceful. Falling asleep to the sound of frogs at night was a unique experience for me. The space had everything we needed for a comfortable night’s sleep--we wish we’d had more time to stay longer. I loved that they gave us duck food so we could feed the ducks when we woke up. Their directions were clear, communication was easy, and everything felt welcoming and well thought-out.

Plenty of space to pitch a tent and great bathroom facilities we had access to! One of the neighboring properties was a little noisy (music, dogs, etc..) but it wouldn’t stop me from staying again.

It was the most beautiful, amazing property and they made us feel right at home immediately! They have many acres and places for you to park your vehicles or pop up your tents or both, they have a bathroom, a shower and a bath bathtub which is awesome! We just shower always at the beach because that’s the only thing we do is go out into the ocean on the side! I would highly recommend staying here. It’s beautiful and the most unexplainable way. I grew up homicide. I live HILO side for five years now, but this was undiscovered Land for us, and it was a true treasure to find!

Lodging was clean, well maintained, and had everything you could really ask for; full kitchen (including stove and oven), hot shower, ceiling fan above the bed, nice little deck out front. The location is fantastic, it's at the back of the farm so sitting on the deck looking out you have a nice view of the rainbow eucalyptus trees, palm patches, and meadows, and total privacy to enjoy a morning coffee in peace. Hosts were amazing, very friendly and welcoming. Oh and there's ducks and peafowl all over who are very friendly and will come up to you for food. My only issue was that I didn't stay longer.
