This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, bugs, geckos, free roaming chickens or other elements to be expected in nature, this might not be the place for you.
Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. Outsiders do not often get the opportunity to stay back here, but we welcome respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience who can appreciate this privilege.
While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
This is a working farm. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. Volcano Island Farm is located on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. We are 10 mins from Honoka'a Town and 20 mins from Waipio Valley Lookout. We are a small agricultural farm, with gardens, hydroponic greenhouses (coming soon), lots of chickens for eggs and acres of macadamia nut tree orchards. Most of the property is green grass and plenty of available shade from the trees as long as you don't mind the occasional falling nut.
We offer to types of camping. Traditional camping is welcome to all campers with their own tent to set up anywhere near the bathhouse in the grass or under a tree. We have tents and camping equipment available to use as needed. We also offer the opportunity to stay in our restored Volkswagen Van. the van sleeps a couple very comfortably with a full to queen size bed, spin around chair and interior lighting. This is where all of our guest stay when they visit the farm and it is very cozy and comfortable. It also includes a picnic table and outdoor lighting around the area.
The bathhouse/bathroom is a shared bathroom between all campers. We won't typically ever have more than 4 campers max so it shouldn't be too difficult accommodate each other. The bathhouse has a hot shower, sink with mirror, private toilet room, off grid hot-tub (heats in 20 mins, effortlessly) and outdoor deck area for eating or hanging out.

The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

Beaches are about forty five minutes and the drive to Hilo is about 25 miles.

As this is agricultural lands, there are many critters. Dogs, chickens, pheasants, peacock, mongoose, and many birds. Tge invasive coqui frog is annoying to some and calming to others.
The micro climate here swings from warm and dry to wet quickly. Best to always prepare for rain.
There is snorkeling, beaches, local food, Cafe, BBQ, poke, fish-n-chips, grocery, Sunday farmers market and hiking nearby.
It is peaceful here, but also an active farming community.
As an organic farm, we put alot of effort into soil building and as such, there are soft places that will be damaged by the weight of a vehicle. Staying on the driveway is best. We will guide you to where you need to go.
Our road is paved, but bumpy. Any vehicle will make it without damage if driven slowly. 1 to 4mph tops. *Be sure to avoid the camper rental companies that restrict certain roads.

We sell our fruits ripe and cut ready to eat at our roadside fruit stand, open 11-6 daily including holidays! We serve local fresh juices and machete open coconuts to drink ice cold.
We grow mango, durian, lilikoi, star fruit, chocolate sapote, buddhas hand citrus, finger limes, tangerines and tangelos, jackfruit, tree grapes, mangosteen, white pineapples, mountain apples, berries, spices and much more. We are home to dozens of rescue animals, many who came from Puna during the 2018 lava flow. We have peaceful sheep, lambs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese and a lovable pet pig. Not to mention our friendly farm cats.
Our current camp sites are not in the fruit orchard, but in a rolling hills open pasture land near the fruit stand. It is rustic and pastoral.
We are a community of a few passionate farmers and fruit lovers. There’s a family- myself Rose, my partner Matthew and our daughter Mela, plus several awesome guys and girls who help out in different areas to grow our lives together!

Camper Vans or RVs are more than welcome! During the day, enjoy access to a private river where you can take your fishing pole and catch yourself some dinner. After a busy day, enjoy a nice hot bath in a private shower under the stars, along with a flushing toilet and sink. Upon request and additional charge, end your adventure with a cozy night next to the fire pit ($28.00 for fire pit). Mangrove Lounge is 3-5 minutes (driving) away from many beaches and eateries in Haleiwa town where you can also do all your shopping. Less than a mile away, you can find all the delicious food trucks including the famous Giovanni Shrimp Truck. You can find your nearest supermarket just 1.2 miles away called Malama Market, and Longs Drug Store right across the street from Malama Market. We are a 5th generation family farm on the slopes of Haleakala, just a 3 mile drive up from historic Makawao town. Our great grandfather purchased a 40 acre ranch in 1957 as his retirement, homestead dream. With rolling hills of pastures, our farm is the ideal location for a secluded camping getaway with ocean views and Maui. Sadly, our property was hit severely by the August 2023 fires caused by downed electric lines. Your support of camping on our family farm helps us recover little by little and help us maintain such a huge responsibility of weeding invasive trees and weeds, along with repairs and fence building after so much loss.

Jenny and the team are great hosts and made us feel very comfortable from the initial meeting through the end of our stay. The location is in the hills of Waialua and overlooks beautiful scenery and you're 10-15min from the ocean/Haleiwa town. We helped ourselves to the bananas, limes and papayas that grow on location. Very clean and quiet and we loved waking up to a variety of singing birds. Shower and bathroom was very cute and good water pressure. Highly recommend staying here if you get the chance.

Great place to camp! We stayed in our campervan and it was perfect. Beautiful place. The other campsites are close but everyone was quiet. Toilet and shower were clean. A little hard to find in the dark but would be easy during the day. The host had great communication. We would just recommend bring bug spray, as there were more bugs than other places we're camped here 😊 would definitely stay here again!

Stayed in a 20ft camper and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Surrounded by ducks, chickens and fresh fruit, it was a scenic, safe and peaceful stay. Please take your rubbish from the toilet after staying as there were 100s of flies when we arrived!

Okay. Wow! This was a beautiful and welcoming space. We felt so welcomed by the staff. The bathroom amenities were more than we expected. The outdoor shower was by far the most special shower we’ve ever had. You are surrounded by bananas trees hanging over you and the water was always the perfect temp. The grounds were beautiful and we loved that we were provided the opportunity to explore. We even picked and ate a papaya from the tree.
We also were given some great tips about some beaches that the locals frequent that were outstanding!
We will definitely be back!

I loved the communal feel of the campsite & was at a great location for lots of hiking, food, & adventure. The staff was very kind to us when we needed help, which is always a big plus! Chickens are definitely loud, so would recommend bringing earplugs for that if you’re a light sleeper. All around great experience!

I had a van and parked at Aloha Family Farms to have a safe and quiet place to sleep. The property was lovely and easy to navigate, but best of all Chiarina was super communicative and checked in with me to make sure things were going well and I didn't have any concerns.

This was our second time staying here and it was great once again! Love that we could walk into town and the accommodations were great, with shower and bathroom and covered area to hang out and prep food. Highly recommend!!!

Our family had an amazing time camping at Sun Farms! If you love the outdoors and have an interest in gardens this place is perfect. The outdoor kitchen, laundry area, shower and restroom were all in great shape and super helpful to have during our stay. This is a bustling farm, and we loved meeting the dog, cats and farm animals.
