We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. We had a great weekend at Diamondstone! From the cabin to the creek we were able to relax, unwind, and even adventure a little. Brian was kind and a pleasure to talk to, be sure to greet him if you get the chance as he had lots to share with us! The cabin and toilet were stocked with cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and plenty of liners/ bags! Our dog, Vivi had a blast and had lots of space to sniff around. We hope to make it back in the future!

Weekend Trip to Herzen Platz (a place in the Heart)

Herzen Platz (Place in the Heart) is appropiately named. The location was a delightful little piece of nature with its beautiful foilage, flowering plants and trees alongside a babbling creek and was just overall beautiful. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by our charming host Gary and his sweet little pups. He gave us a lay of the land, informed us of additional services offered (Like gourmet breakfast and other fare options available and use of the hot tub) and gave us recommendations on various local things to explore. The tent itself was definitely the embodiment of glamping with its full size bed, leather futon, coffee station, and bottle of wine, complete with glass wineglasses, that greeted us upon arrival. It even had fans and a heater to accomodate the variances in temperature. The modern day outhouse consisted of a compsting toilet, mirror and outdoor handwashing station. Next to it was a shower with a tankless water heater that allowed us to take glorious hot showers. It was a fantastic experience! Although it may not be typical for other guests, we were enchanted by the place and wanted to get to know its owner. As a result, we opted to talk to Gary and get to know him. He is truly a lovely soul! My friend and I had the best time. We highly recommend Hertzen Platz and definitely plan on returing!!!

Weekend Trip to Blue Ridge Basecamp

This was my second time staying at Nick and Tja’s campers, and I have yet to be disappointed. I booked the weekend for my boyfriend’s birthday, and we spent the day down at Lake’s End Marina (only five minutes away!), where we rented kayaks and went fishing. They also offer a sunset UTV tour, which was equally fun. Being able to come back to the RV at the end of the day and have everything we needed to cook dinner and relax together was amazing. The Blackstone flat top and cooking tools were super convenient—we didn’t have to pack or bring our own! The grounds are extremely clean, and Nick and Tja are very responsive and helpful with any questions. The farm-fresh eggs they offer were a great addition to our breakfasts. We will definitely be staying here again—it truly feels like a home away from home!

The location was amazing sleeping with the stream right behind this I had beautiful sounds and energy. We can go to Byrd call Flow water was awesome. Not to mention that Sieff‘s cooking every morning was top-notch. I’m plant based and so he accommodated the alterations to the menu and it was absolutely beautiful. There was tons of activities, nearby, wineries, beautiful hikes, and even more attractions that didn’t take away from the scenery that we were in. I will definitely be staying here again.

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

My boyfriend and I had such a great time at Brian's place! The little shelter he's built is perfect. I loved every little detail - the cool bed platform, the electric heater, the well functioning windows and blinds, THE PORCH 🤌🏼, the branches used for the railings, charcoal grill, picnic table and fire pit, and like 15 steps from the shelter to the river. Just perfect. It got down into the 30's one night we were there and our little place stayed plenty warm. Brian is incredibly kind and wonderful to talk to as well. If you like camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming, and/or paddle boarding, pretty sure you'll love this spot and the area. Would highly recommend a truck or suv for the drive in as there's a lot of gravel and some pretty large bumps that a lower car may struggle with.

Wonderful hosts and accommodations, only problem we had was the fact that the site advertised fireplaces but there was a fire ban that we were not advised about. Another problem was the extra charge for a date change by one day which was made directly after booking once I realised I had made a mistake. $113.00 for the change. The shelter really is set up great with thoughtful additions; the sturdy shutters all around allow for visibility and air flow. The outhouse is very clean. Mr. George owns a very beautiful slice of heaven up in the north Georgia mountains. The convergence of several small streams set the backdrop to a very quiet and tranquil weekend. Clean outhouse, 2 bars of LTE just in case you need to contact civilization, and not a peep from the neighbors made this camp out delightful. I'll certainly be adding this to my "repeat visits" list!
