Arcade Noah hip camp is by far my favorite spot so far. Anthony the host is phenomenal. Outgoing and genuine. I'm on a primitive camping site, and using my solar to keep things running in my camper. If you're looking for a spot that's off the grid, where you can get out and see the stars. This is the spot for you. It's off on the main grid of St Augustine but not so far away that you can't get anywhere. 15 maybe 20 minutes to the beach or Publix 15 minutes away. Little local shops close by. Here at Arca Noah, Anthony has goats, chickens and rabbits. Super chill place to come camp and soak up a little bit of nature around you. I give this Hipcamp five stars. I can't wait to come back and visit again.

This was a great spot far in the back of the farm. Anthony was very friendly and welcoming when I arrived and showed me to my spot. There’s a large clearing and I had the whole area to myself as there were no other campers that night. I felt very safe and comfortable. It was pretty quiet. I would definitely recommend this Hipcamp

If someone asked me what an idyllic spot to park my camper looked like, I would say someplace quiet, where I can see all the stars in the sky, nothing but nature out my front door, and maybe the occasional train horn in the distance to remind me that civilization still exists. That's Ron and Sue's property, Camp Z. I spent the week, but I could've stayed a month. If you're heading north or south through Georgia, make sure you make your way to Folkston to find Camp Z. You'll be rewarded with peach, quiet and tranquility. Idyllic!

I have been on the road for 2 months and I needed a break. I booked two nights and it was exactly what I was expecting. I can't describe the tranquility. I stayed in the back lot which had the perfect amount of privacy. I had a view of the farm, a pond and forest. It was so peaceful. I enjoyed walking with my dog around the lot and over to see the goats and chickens. I wish the weather had cooperated because the nights were overcast but I am certain the view of the stars is amazing. It is so close to all the Saint Augustine attractions...I mean less than 10 minutes to 95 and downtown but you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. The host was very accommodating and gave me several suggestions for local activities. The other thing I want to mention is how safe I felt. I am a solo female traveler and I felt so safe I slept with my back doors of my van open...all night. I plan on staying here again.

We had a problem with our RV not starting on the morning we were supposed to leave and Brian was extremely helpful in giving us assistance with finding a mechanic that could help us. Brian even towed our bus to the repair shop with his tractor! We were very grateful and would definitely recommend this property because of its safe location and the wonderful people who own it. Great Hipcamp experience!

4 nights at Filly's Place

I really enjoyed my time camping here. They have a peaceful property with beautiful horses and a nice reservoir that geese and other birds stop at. The stars at night are clear to see. Brian and his wife were very helpful and knowledgeable about everything to do with camping and RV life.

Where to go

Along St. Johns River

The mighty St. John’s River meets the Atlantic just east of Jacksonville and flows south of the city, affording plenty of options for riverside camping, fishing, hiking, and paddling. Closer to the city, birders won’t want to miss the Huguenot Memorial Park, a prime spot on the Great Florida Birding Trail, while history buffs can explore Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park and the Kingsley Plantation.

Northeast Atlantic Coast

Miles of white-sand beaches lie within a short drive of Jacksonville, where you can swim, surf, and enjoy water sports. At the mouth of the St Johns River, Hanna Park has a surf beach, fishing lake, and miles of hiking and biking trails, plus camping and cabin rentals. Further north, you can horseback ride on the beach and camp right on the sand at Amelia Island State Park.

Osceola National Forest

For a change of scenery, head inland to explore the wild woodlands of Osceola National Forest. The forest not only has RV and tent campgrounds with easy access to hiking, OHV, and horseback riding trails, but self-sufficient campers can also venture into the backcountry for dispersed camping.

When to go

Summertime is fun in Jacksonville, when visitors flock to the lakes, rivers, and beaches, and highs climb over 90°F. Jax’s far-north location means that it rarely gets hit by hurricane season (expect some summer thunderstorms nonetheless), and it’s still hot enough to hit the beach through spring and early fall. In winter, the mild weather and diminishing crowds can be a bonus for campers, but don’t expect the balmy temperatures of the south.
