Most people come to stay either in our rental cottage or in their horse trailers/RVs with their horses to ride the awesome trails in the 20,000+ acre adjacent Croom Forest. However, because our ranch is so peaceful, many stay here without horses just to enjoy the peace and quiet. There are many opportunities to recreate in the area, including outstanding mountain and road biking, OHVing, hiking, golfing, and canoeing/kayaking. Many full-time and working RVers stay for extended periods. Note that our camping area is small and intimate, so you will be close to other campers. We have 5 30-amp hookups, and 2 50-amp hookups; if you need 50-amp service, please request it. Note that a minimum of a 2-night stay will typically be required on weekends, especially during our busy season. WiFi is available, but we call it "Country WiFi" since it sometimes can be slow and may or may not be accessible from where you are parked; also, Verizon cell service in our area is terrible. If internet access is important to you, we suggest having your own hotspot or internet service (many working RVers have Starlink). Note that GPS can be very mean in our rural area; make sure your turn off Highway 50 is onto paved High Corner Road, which is 2 miles west of I-75 (if GPS tries to turn you down unpaved, dead-end roads, DO NOT LISTEN..you will get stuck!).

Monarchs share their habitat with many other species of insects and birds. The birds would lose a food source, and their decline is the proverbial “canary in the coal mine” for other pollinators. If other pollinators decline like monarchs, it could have impacts on the food that humans rely on. This year (2024) we hope to finally get the Monarch Butterfly put on the endangered species list and see them rebound in numbers. We opened to the public on Labor Day 2014. Most people come to stay either in our rental cottage or in their horse trailers/RVs with their horses to ride the awesome trails in the 20,000+ acre adjacent Croom Forest. However, because our ranch is so peaceful, many stay here without horses just to enjoy the peace and quiet. There are many opportunities to recreate in the area, including outstanding mountain and road biking, OHVing, hiking, golfing, and canoeing/kayaking. Many full-time and working RVers stay for extended periods. Note that our camping area is small and intimate, so you will be close to other campers. We have 5 30-amp hookups, and 2 50-amp hookups; if you need 50-amp service, please request it. Note that a minimum of a 2-night stay will typically be required on weekends, especially during our busy season. WiFi is available, but we call it "Country WiFi" since it sometimes can be slow and may or may not be accessible from where you are parked; also, Verizon cell service in our area is terrible. If internet access is important to you, we suggest having your own hotspot or internet service (many working RVers have Starlink). Monarchs share their habitat with many other species of insects and birds. The birds would lose a food source, and their decline is the proverbial “canary in the coal mine” for other pollinators. If other pollinators decline like monarchs, it could have impacts on the food that humans rely on. This year (2024) we hope to finally get the Monarch Butterfly put on the endangered species list and see them rebound in numbers. Let's just start by saying the reviews are spot on, and if we could give more than 5 stars, this place would be getting them. From the very start, the hosts were very connected and went over everything. The sites are perfectly maintained, well set up, and accommodating. The bathrooms were actually clean and functioning, there was coffee and hot chocolate in the morning, and having horses and donkeys roaming around was just icing on the cake. Out of the sites we have visited (HipCamp and State Parks), this one is by far our favorite and will be on regular rotation. You will not be disappointed in any aspect here.

We had such a great stay! The campsite was private, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful woods — the perfect mix of comfort and nature. We even had horses wandering nearby, which made the whole experience feel extra special. The kids loved the swings, and the coffee bar was such a thoughtful touch in the mornings. The shower was super clean with great quality water — honestly one of the best we’ve had while camping! You can tell the hosts really care about the space and their guests. Can’t wait to come back!

I highly recommend Big Oak Farm Dog and Horse Camping! It’s an idyllic little spot to stay with the family, with pets or solo. It’s easy to locate and very accessible near a state road. I booked last minute, (I’m talking about an hour beforehand). The host responded quickly and was very welcoming. Every time I reached out through the app, during my stay, the response was quick. The hosts were attentive, but definitely gave you your privacy. Although, their very clear directions and instructions were posted on the site, they took the time to greet me personally and helped me get set up with water and electricity, using their own hose and extension cord to save me the trouble of dragging out my own. There is a large fenced in area for the dogs to run around safely. My 3 had a great time and were fascinated by the pig and the emu in the adjoining field. It’s a beautiful sight to see horses in the field while having your morning coffee! I decided to book a second night after seeing the stars the first night. There is no noticeable light pollution and little to no traffic at night. I would recommend bringing a telescope, you won’t be disappointed. I would definitely stay again!
