Weekend Trip to Luxury Camping at 'Higher Ground'

Evan & Laura have an amazing set up. They had great communication during our stay and in the week leading up. They checked in to see if we needed anything prior, including the propane heater, which in 30-something degree weather was an essential and extremely helpful. The site truly had anything you could ever need. We were extremely impressed and surprised by the outhouse with toilet, shower, and usb-c chargers(!) inside. Reading reviews beforehand were helpful and led us to pack lighter, given the steep climb up. But the climb was definitely worth it. We also loved how Evan showed us how the goats and chickens were fed. My pup definitely loved running up and down the hill to the site and marveled (sometimes a little too much lol) at the goats and chickens she was seeing for the first time! Incredible experience with kids. What Yana and husband created on their property is a must to experience if you have kids. Just book it and make sure to ask for whatever you need, because it's all ala carte. Humble, lower tier glamping, but makes up in atmosphere and amenities for kids and interaction with the animals. 10/10 would stay again.

We loved staying at this property! We enjoyed playing cards by the beautiful creek and taking walks on the property. It was a short drive from longer hikes, such as Fahnestock State Park, which we took advantage of. Bill and Stephen were really helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. We would definitely come back again!

Weekend Trip to Hunterbrook Mountain

This spot stands out as my favorite of all the Hipcamp sites I’ve stayed at upstate. The location is essentially perfect... peaceful, beautiful, and easy to get to. I come here every year with my son, it’s become a tradition for us. Stephen, the host, is always a pleasure, communicative, kind, and genuinely cares about the experience. The inside of the tent is well maintained, and the stream that runs right in front adds such a magical touch. I highly recommend this place, just don’t book it in early October, because that’s when We like to come!

Evan & Laura have done a wonderful job with the campsite! It seems like they thought of everything, even the tiniest little details. My son and I really enjoyed the vibe and had a nice evening sleeping inside tent while it rained. Highly recommend!

Staying here was a magical experience! We went in mid-October and the leaves were so beautiful. The campsite has everything you could possibly need, the bed was super comfy, and the table was great for cooking and eating breakfast on. The outhouse is extremely clean and even has a shower! The area around the site is stunning too we even saw some deer. The best part is Evan allowed us to help feed the goats and the chickens in the morning! You won't regret staying here

What a magical experience! Goats, chickens, geese, ducks, amazing Rica the dog, playground for toddlers (5-7 years). Jan and Diane were accommodating and attentive to our requests. Be prepared to come with your camping equipments including cookware and utensils. Sleeping bags were provided. A supermarket is 2 minutes away so you can get anything you might have forgotten anyway.

It was so peaceful there! Isolated but in a neighborhood, quiet sounds of road nearby but not distracting to the peace. All accommodations were as told, nothing fancy but all necessities met and site was clean. My recommendations are to make sure the site is stocked with firewood which Evan did for me, and the heater rental is simply a must in the fall. Like other reviewers said, pack light due to the climb and carry simply made food needs. I would happily return.

One of the best camping experiences I’ve had! Coming from Manhattan, we didn’t have all our gear to go traditional camping, so this was the perfect blend of camping and lodging. They had a bed, sheets, blankets, pillows, dishes, silverware, kitchen ware, flashlights, chairs, bathroom, and shower to make the trip easy and light. Walking up the hill with firewood was a trek, but that’s always expected with camping. For what the hosts provide and the cleanliness of the site, I think this was definitely worth the price. Not to mention, we got to see their goats and chickens and explore nearby cities/trails that were absolutely charming. I’d book again!

The site is private, peaceful, beautiful, and hard to leave. Stephen provides cookware, a hammock, cleaning supplies, cards, a football, and more. Multiple trails on the property. Fresh spring water available anytime. Can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful location, very secluded, amenities were amazing, and very friendly host. The goats and chicken were cute. Pack very light, or be prepared for a lot of steep climbing to get to the tent site, though! It was a bit stressful carrying luggage up and down while having a toddler around.

2 nights at Hunterbrook Mountain

We loved the tent and the space. The hosts were very responsive and informative. It's clear they want campers to have a great experience. The terrain to the site is uphill & the hike up there is not for faint of heart or the overly wobbly. It's not a long hike, but it is rocky and at a constant incline. But what you'll find at the end of it is really lovely. Would be wonderful for a group, with extra tents. The amenities are exceptional-- bed!!! battery, camp chairs, firewood, potable water, cooking gear, shower, compost toilet (I had no idea they could be this good), fairy lights! There are so many hikes, a few lakes, and excellent food options within 10-15 mins drive; with 2 hikes on the property. One warning for those who care: Although you are surrounded by nature, you can hear large/noisy vehicles through the night (trucks switching gears, motorcycles). This wasn't an issue for us and we slept like logs, but it might be for sensitive sleepers or folks who want all their senses to bathe in nature.

Jan's farm is absolutely gorgeous!! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in one of the cabbage tents. The camping areas are far enough from the main house for privacy but close enough for comfort. They've built so many sweet nooks for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful woods, would definitely recommend a stay! I would warn future campers that their land is very close to a train station so be prepared for horns in addition to the lovely farm noises from the chickens, ducks, geese and even peacocks!

Weekend Trip to Hunterbrook Mountain

Hunterbrook was fantastic. It was peaceful, Bill was super friendly and helpful, and the site was clean and really well stocked. The location is great for day hikes in Fahnestock State Park (10 mims) or the Hudson Highlands (20 mins). We had a terrific time hiking in the daytime and sitting by the fire and brook at night.
