The meadow we occupy was once the farmers property that I grew up next to at my parents farm house.
When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here.
We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site.
We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same.
It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property.
We want to teach others to grow food from their land while helping to support us keeping our adjacent property agricultural and undeveloped.
Our property has provided many happy gatherings and events and we love to share it with others.

Enjoy your stay next to our edible forest garden on the Edge of a beautiful meadow along side the orchard of berries, nuts and fruit trees. Various seasons will offer you an opportunity to pick your own breakfast in our maturing establishment. You can enjoy exploring, and examining our 7 year permacultuire food forest with chestnut seedlings already tall enough to climb , 10-foot hazels bearing buckets of nuts and a different selection of raspberries, blackberries, gooseberry, currents, golden berries, service berries and Mulberries. Enjoy a stroll through the meadow trail to breath in morning views and evening fireflies and stars. This camp area is very private but household amenities are not far away if desired. This site is much more private than Mickelberry Forest Garden Site and the beautiful mountain view is only a small step away. One mile away we offer nearby blue mark trails, mountain biking, lake and outdoor activities are at your fingertips and your hosts will be happy to provide any assistance needed to find or enjoy these opportunities. The Creamery (Ferris Acres) is one of the best farm ice cream shops in the East. We can provide breakfast upon request from our free range chickens on our kiwi lined deck with beautiful mountain views. Come and enjoy the croak of the bullfrog and the sound of the crickets. We are new and growing our amenities so at this time check the overview for available amenities but you can guarantee we won't disappoint. There are several options for setting up your tent. You will be the only ones at Fernwood, or Fernwood 2 unless we happen to be up working on the land. No matter where you set up you'll have your own private fire pit, and level ground for your tent(s).
Come and enjoy a quiet retreat, or use Fernwood as a base for many outdoor activities-biking, fishing, hiking-all nearby. Natchaug Forest offers great trout fishing. Goodwin State Forest is less than 3 miles away by car where you can put in a canoe on Pine Lake, amble through the wildflower and pollinator gardens, or enjoy the Education Center and Museum. From Goodwin, you can access the Air Line State Park Bike/Hiking Path.
Hampton also has a general store that has simple food, frozen dinners that Kara will heat up for you, gifts, and awesome Ice Cream Sodas!

If you want a change from all that nature, there is Sharpe Hill Vineyard less than 10 miles away, as well as We-Li-Kit IceCream less than 6 miles. The route to either place will take you through beautiful scenic farmland.

Meadow Ridge Farm is a 110-acre working dairy farm. But don't be misled, the campsite is very secluded, located over a quarter a mile away from anything. You will get to the campsite by driving down the gravel road past corn fields, pastures and cows, too.
The area has so much to offer, including award-winning restaurants, some of the most beautiful hiking trails, wineries, a distillery, and local farmers markets. Three miles away the town green offers shops, historical tours and restaurants.
White Memorial Foundation is a 4000-acre nature preserve 4 miles away with over 40 miles of trails and so much more!
Fresh raw milk, local eggs, and maple syrup are available on site for purchase.

My daughter and I had wonderful time at Mickelberry forest garden.
Amy and her husband welcomed us with open arms and made us feel like their property was home.
The campsite is only a few hundred feet from their house but still felt very secluded. The tent site is right next to a meadow the top of which has wonderful views of rolling hills- making for a perfect place to sit and relax.
They also have an assortment of fruit trees and bushes to pick from as well as goats and chickens that kept us entertained.
It was a lovely 1 night stay for us and we hope to be back sometime!

Absolutely loved camping at Blackburn Farm! The farm setting was lovely and pristine. We loved the farm animals and shaded spot by the barn. The site is equiped with everything you need including 30/50amp power, water, picnic table and fire pit. Feels secluded and quiet while being minutes from all the Mystic area has to offer. The host was beyond gracious and knowedgable, providing awesome recommendations for Mystic as well as the future legs of our trip. I highly recommend this stay and hope to return!

Our spot was level and grass, by the pond and it was away from the house. It also had a fire ring. If you had a tent, there was a nice spot up the path. The grass was a little high and we would have been more comfortable walking around if it was cut. Just worry about ticks. The host was friendly and accommodating.

This was our first time not only using Hipcamp, but camping in general. We had so much fun on Amy & Bill’s property. We didn’t realize how large the backyard was at first and there was more privacy than we anticipated. The goats, duck and chickens were so fun to watch. The view of the rolling hills was awesome, especially at sunset.

Lovely spot and great hosts! Gorgeous ponds. Lots of nature but also really close to town, we got Nino's pizza and really recommend them. Off their long driveway so not entirely secluded but also easier to get to and from. The trails were really cool and we loved seeing the animals. Maybe ask them to point out where the trails start when you check in since we had trouble finding them even with the map. In a clearing so if you want to set up a tarp or hammock bring your own supports. Dirt road with sharp turns, if you have an rv make sure it's smaller, we tented. Overall definitely a great spot!

It’s a beautiful property! Lovely to see the cows, the starlit sky and fireflies. The fire pit is amazing and there’s plenty of firewood. The picnic table is great too. There are no pots or pans or tongs fyi so itd be good to brings those! And the bathroom was a little uncomfortable to use because of the toilet bowl being a bag that wasn’t so deep.. so slight discomforts but it is glamping and there are plenty of places not too far away to access bathrooms and other comforts.

My friends and i had an amazing time at meadow ridge !!! we spent the weekend and had plenty of firewood for our whole stay, the canvas tent was perfect for our friends who didn’t have a tent, and we explored the area and found the best ice cream we have had arethusa!!! loved petting the cows and having a secluded space to spend time together. we will be back !!!
