Weekend Trip to Forest Treasure Island

Stayed here for one night with a buddy and our four girls, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The girls had an absolute blast—especially playing with the adorable puppies, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, and hanging out in the spacious tent. The site was comfortable, well set up, and perfect for a quick escape. We’re already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommend!

Mike was super nice and responded quickly. He allowed me to stay for a night last minute. There was a picnic table and firepit. There was also wood for sale down the road outside the barn. I cooked a wonderful meal in the firepit and had a gorgeous sleep in my tent on a cot. There is a slope to carry your items up but its not too difficult. You can hear cars on the highway the entire time but I live in Brooklyn NY so that didn’t bother me at all. I would 100% stay here again and hopefully bring my family along as they don’t live far from the property.

Weekend Trip to Luxury Camping at 'Higher Ground'

We loved our time here! It felt very remote and peaceful even as we drove in. The climb up to the site is real, don't underestimate how steep it is. We did and brought way too much gear! Left about 90% of our unnecessary items in the car and were more than fine with what they provided. This is not pull up car camping, so don't pack like it is. They have everything you need up there, for real! They were wonderful hosts! Our dogs were able to be off leash the whole time and it was easy to teach them both to leave the goats (who are in their pen) alone. The bed is really quite comfy! The lighting was great with the small lamps they leave on the side tables. Very cozy inside the tent! And omg the heater, use it!!! It was amazing on cold and rainy nights. It's nature, there are bugs. Ticks are plentiful this year so do regular tick checks. They do provide you with plenty of bug spray. We are excited to have discovered this gem of a place! The location can't be beat, the accommodations are very well thought out and the hosts were wonderful!

The site is up a steep woods road and requires 4 wheel drive with high ground clearance. Once you get to the top it levels out and there is a spacious tenting area with a platform and room for many tents. There are a lot of trees, so if you are a hammock camper this is great. There are two picnic tables, a privy, cold shower, and a dish washing area. The camping area is quite a long way up the hill from the main house, so you have complete privacy.

Weekend Trip to Art-Funk Forest Retreat

First off, the pictures do not do this cabin justice. This place is amazing. My entire family enjoyed all of the eclectic artwork and my wife was in heaven with the extensive collection of literature. The cabin was clean and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The jacuzzi tub is a must to unwind. There's plenty of seasoned fireword for the stone fireplace and a collection of board games to enjoy. Outside we found hidden spots of whimsy with fairy lights and sculpture throughout the property. The host was very responsive and couldn't be more helpful. We would definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

Weekend Trip to Luxury Camping at 'Higher Ground'

Evan and Laura's site was perfect. Everything you need is provided, both were very responsive to any questions we had, the bathroom and shower were way better than what we're used to at campsites and they offered suggestions for local hikes and a great butcher shop. The goats are pretty darn cute too. Highly recommend this site!

I would 100% recommend camping on Mikes land. Mike is friendly, helpful, and very responsive. From the moment we got there we felt that he was as invested in our experience as we were. He even lent us his fishing hooks, said we could use his swimming hole, shared his wild mushrooms, and lent us his mini wagons to help us carry stuff up the hill. the site is beautiful and very private. You do here the cars from the road. We didn't mind, but if it would bother you, then you should probably book Mikes other camp site thats farther up. Very close to local hikes and fishing opportunities. Had the best time! we will be back!

Weekend Trip to Destination Farnch

We had an amazing time at Mike’s camp, even when it rained one night! There was plenty of firewood available, and the space was vast enough to accommodate a large group. We were upgraded to Phoenix Landing, which is more secluded and away from road noise—definitely a great spot for a peaceful getaway. We visited at the end of winter and could already tell that the area would be lush and beautiful in the summer. There’s a nice walking path on the property, perfect for a leisurely stroll. While there is a bathroom and shower on-site, we didn’t use them since we were only there for two nights and brought our own setup. The campsite was clean and well-maintained, and the land at Phoenix Landing was leveled, making our tent setup super even and comfortable for sleeping. There’s also a platform available, but we opted for a more primitive camping experience. We met Mike at the mushroom factory, and he was incredibly accommodating, friendly, and polite. Checking in and out was a breeze, and whenever we needed to communicate, he was always available and responsive. Overall, we had an awesome experience and would highly recommend this spot!

The meadow we occupy was once the farmers property that I grew up next to at my parents farm house. When he wanted to sell his property he offered it to us for purchase at a fair price if we would not develop more than we needed to live here. We maintained the meadow adjacent to our property and have kept it as an agricultural site. We have had our son develop an edible forest garden and a unique diversified small orchard so we can eat and share healthy organic fruits and vegetables while helping our environment and wildlife and educating others to do the same. It is expensive to live in Newtown but we love our property. We want to teach others to grow food from their land while helping to support us keeping our adjacent property agricultural and undeveloped. We can provide you with a trail map and help plan your hike. Swimming at Canopus Lake is only 7 miles away. Other Fahenstock activities include fishing, boat rentals, biking, and snowshoeing/x-country skiing in the winter. Both the Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming and Stonecrop Gardens are only about 8 minutes away. 15 minutes to the west, poised on the Hudson River is the historic colonial town of Cold Spring, with shopping, lovely restaurants, plenty of natural attractions and a picturesque riverfront. 30 minutes northwest is the more bustling hipster vibe of Beacon with coffee shops and live music venues, and 20 minutes southeast puts you in the heart of downtown Peekskill with Hudson Valley MOCA and the Paramount Theater.
