Dear Valued Guests,
I hope this message finds you well. As we reflect on the past winter, we’ve observed that our area received minimal precipitation. While the lower elevations received almost no moisture, the higher elevations are at only 53% of the 20-year average snowpack.
Given these conditions, I have made the difficult decision not to host campers this year due to the heightened fire risk. Your safety is my utmost priority, and I would never want to put any of my guests in harm's way.
Please stay tuned for updates. If we receive significant rainfall this spring, I may reconsider hosting this year. Otherwise, I look forward to welcoming you in 2026.

600 Acre working farm, with two miles of the La Plata River running through it and spectacular views of the La Plata Mountains and Sleeping Ute Mountain. You will find a wide variety of vegetation and wildlife (Southwest Sage, Cactus, Ponderosa, Pinion, and Pine trees, Mule Deer, Turkey, Fox, Rabbits, Bald Eagles, and Red Tail Hawks to name a few) . Guests are encouraged to explore this beautiful piece of the southwest. I hope this message finds you well. As we reflect on the past winter, we’ve observed that our area received minimal precipitation. While the lower elevations received almost no moisture, the higher elevations are at only 53% of the 20-year average snowpack.
Given these conditions, I have made the difficult decision not to host campers this year due to the heightened fire risk. Your safety is my utmost priority, and I would never want to put any of my guests in harm's way.
Please stay tuned for updates. If we receive significant rainfall this spring, I may reconsider hosting this year. Otherwise, I look forward to welcoming you in 2026.

600 Acre working farm, with two miles of the La Plata River running through it and spectacular views of the La Plata Mountains and Sleeping Ute Mountain. You will find a wide variety of vegetation and wildlife (Southwest Sage, Cactus, Ponderosa, Pinion, and Pine trees, Mule Deer, Turkey, Fox, Rabbits, Bald Eagles, and Red Tail Hawks to name a few) . We had a great quick night at Joe’s place. There were so many amenities like a fully stocked camp kitchen, outhouse, shower set up, and plenty of chairs and tables. We didn’t have to unload much of our own stuff and could just use what was provided. We slept peacefully with the sound of the creek. We wish we could have stayed longer to explore more of the property and creek!
Our dog was a bit anxious at first but Joe came by with a treat to say hello and she immediately was happy and relaxed. She loved playing in the creek.

We had such a great stay at HRT Durango! The amenities were perfect for our family — the kids loved the playground, and the pool was a great way to cool off and relax after a day of exploring. Having a dog park on site was a huge bonus too, making it easy for our pup to get some exercise and enjoy the trip with us.
The campground was well-kept, with clean facilities and plenty of space at the sites to set up comfortably. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, it was the perfect family-friendly stop, and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through Durango.

This campsite was an absolute slice of heaven and, without a doubt, the most magical Hipcamp site where we have ever stayed. Tucked away high in the mountains, the site is perfectly situated adjacent a serene aspen grove with a picnic table where we ate our meals. The air is crisp and clean, and the sound of the quaking leaves rustling in the breeze created a peaceful soundtrack.
Staying at The Aspens was about half the price of the local RV parks, but it had all the ammenities as advertised, and we topped off power and water during our stay.
This spot is the perfect escape for anyone looking to disconnect from the chaos of everyday life and reconnect with nature. I can't recommend this campsite enough. We're already planning my return trip!
