On the property are cats, two dogs, two equines (you will hear our burro braying). Our neighbors have yaks, cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, horses, poultry, and other farm animals. You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property beyond the Big Stick Ditch but do not go into the pasture with our burro or enter any of the out buildings. Park within steps of the Art Shack, cross the foot bridge over the bubbling irrigation ditch, and you have arrived! Please remove your shoes before entering! There is electricity, a queen bed, rustic chairs inside, an outdoor table and chairs, a composting toilet, a coffee machine, and purified drinking water for your use. An electric heater is supplied during winter months. There is no air conditioning. We are available if needed (unless we are out of town adventuring) but will not expect to interact with you as you relax. We love pets and kids but due to the Wildlife with a capital W (and the occasional skunk) with whom we share this land we must limit our guests to humans ages 8 and up. We are in the rural area between Hesperus, Durango, and Mancos - An easy drive to Durango and its thrift shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes, Animas River and River Trail, and hiking and biking trails. Mancos is filled with art galleries, a wonderful bakery and cafe, beauty, and endless trails. Also within driving distance are Phil's World, Cortez, Sand Canyon, the beautiful La Plata Canyon, Mesa Verde National Park, Lake NIghthorse, and more! There are endless hiking and biking trails within driving distance of the property. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing abound and alpine skiing at Purgatory Ski Resort are popular winter activities. The views of the La Platas and Sleeping Ute are ever changing, awe inspiring, and constant from the deck of The Art Shack. On the property are cats, two dogs, two equines (you will hear our burro braying). Our neighbors have yaks, cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, horses, poultry, and other farm animals. You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property beyond the Big Stick Ditch but do not go into the pasture with our burro or enter any of the out buildings. Park within steps of the Art Shack, cross the foot bridge over the bubbling irrigation ditch, and you have arrived! Please remove your shoes before entering! There is electricity, a queen bed, rustic chairs inside, an outdoor table and chairs, a composting toilet, a coffee machine, and purified drinking water for your use. An electric heater is supplied during winter months. There is no air conditioning. We are available if needed (unless we are out of town adventuring) but will not expect to interact with you as you relax. No dogs are allowed - 2 people max - No smoking of lit substances inside The Art Shack. Please remove your shoes before entering The Art Shack!

Hospitality was top notch. If you’re not used to camping in a community space it can feel a bit different. Lots to do there, and Telluride is about an hour and a half away and so are the bridal veil falls. If you plan on going to Mesa Verde make sure to book your in advance because some of the areas are only accessible through tours.

The art shack is a great spot. The view is gorgeous and even though the temperature got up to 87 it was nice a cool as the shack is in a small group of pine and popular trees. Even if it had been too hot Gretchen provided a cooler with a fan. There's a swing out front that was lovely to sway on while I watched the sunset. It was beautiful and peaceful. In distance you can hear some cows mooing and an occasional donkey song. Everything you want in a weekend away.

The tipi was spacious enough for our young family of 6, 2 adults in the bed, 2 bigger kids on the foldout futon and two littles on camping mats in the floor. Waking up to a sky lit up inside of a tipi was majestic! The camp kitchen, showers and bathrooms were useful. Kitchen was stocked for use, showers were creative and clean. Bathroom, while still a pit toilet, was painted and clean and well appointed. Put us very close to our next stop, Mesa Verde Natl park. Definitely bring your family here if you’re out this way, really memorable night for us, sleeping in a tipi!

The Art Shack was delightful. The hosts Gretchen and Andre were wonderful hosts. Just large enough to fit a bed and a few chairs... Internet worked great... They had a 5 gallon jug artfully propped up for easy access to water... The composting toilet was the best, clean, creative and scented of cedar. The view from the cedar throne was of the vast expanse of Colorado ranch land with Mesa Verde looming. One warm night , I truly enjoyed sleeping in my bag on the porch... The Vast Silence, the cool air and the Stars were the Stuff of Dreams. We went swimming in nearby lakes, so a shower was not necessary. It was a pleasure taking the back roads to Durango and Mancos. Beauty everywhere in every direction. I know that The Art Shack is just going to get better with our every stay. :-) Greg and Roberta

My partner and I ADORED our stay at the Art Shack! Pictures don't do it justice! The property is so quiet and peaceful, with stunning views of the farm and mountains. We found the shack very cozy and had no trouble sleeping. We loved interacting with the friendly farm animals next door. We stayed in the Mustang Tipi. It was an amazing experience! The grounds are full of things to do ... we played ping pong and sat on the swing set to watch the sunset. Everyone (guests) were friendly and the vibe was laid back. The check in process is easy and you cannot beat the night sky! My kids are already asking to come back again and stay for longer. Absolutely recommend!

My wife and I loved camping at Robins place. Brightstar Campground is an all around peaceful and beautiful place to stay. We stayed in a Tipi for two nights and the Mountain cabin another two nights because we liked the vibe so much. Both lodging options were more than big enough for my wife and I and very comfortable. The early spring nights get cold, but each bed is outfitted with a variety of blankets to stack up. We used our own extras some nights, but didn't need them the whole time. The amenities and accommodations were very accurate to the website and hipcamp description with a few pleasant surprises sprinkled in. Robin was flexible and friendly, but not overbearing as a host. Check in and out was easy and hosts were consistently responsive via text or call. Kent, the new camp host was friendly and helpful through the stay. He has a great eye for unique art and a knack for outdoor hospitality! Anyone who is used to camping and glamping would absolutely thrive here and if you're just looking to dip your toe in but not ready for packing and planning all your own gear and camping trip the tipi or cabin would be a great option!

Can hike to the top of the mountain and view Lake Vallecito (45 min hike) deer are usually plentiful and other wildlife as well.
