Indian Canyon Ranch is a rugged, isolated, off grid property which focuses on enjoying the outdoor beauty of our little corner of the spectacular American Southwest.
Please be advised, that during heavy rain four-wheel drive may be necessary but in all cases low clearance vehicles are not ideal on the last section of road but if you go slow any vehicle can make it. The good news is that we have done a major upgrade on the road and it's much less intimidating now but If you arrive after dark the last bit of road still looks more challenging than it actually is due to shadows on the surface caused by the head lights. Please plan to show up before dark for the best experience and ease of finding the location. Units are not heated, please bring drinking water but water is available in the bathroom and kitchen.
Indian Canyon Ranch is proud to be an independent, off grid property with limited solar power and water available. There are no RV hook ups available but there is limited solar power in the rental units and in the communal area but not in the primitive campsites. Campsites are primitive camping only. Showers in the main communal area are solar powered and only hot with the sun and for an hour or so after sunset. Please conserve water at all times.
Joe purchased this property in 2008. At that time, it was 8 acres, and it is now at 20 acres continuous property. The ranch is situated 2 miles off the highway down a bumpy dirt road on the edge of the national forest, this gives you a feeling of being in the wilderness. The south and east sides are boarded by canyons and ruins. All other private properties in the area are 10 acres or more so are well spread out and sparsely populated.
All the structures on site were brought here piece by piece and were salvaged from construction projects in Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks. Water is manually hauled in and the power in the kitchen area is solar generated so please be conscious of water and power use.

You'll have access to roam much of this 38 acre property which includes a hay farm, cliffside and clifftop trail and a section of McElmo Creek. We just ask that folks stay away from the private residence on site, which is well-marked.
We love pets and kids but due to the Wildlife with a capital W (and the occasional skunk) with whom we share this land we must limit our guests to humans ages 8 and up.
Southwest Colorado is a land of extremes. We get hot, cold and everything in between. The tents are canvas so we offer electric blankets and small space heaters for colder days, and fans for the warmer days. And in advance, we apologize for the high cleaning fee. When you're here you'll understand why with the large showerhouse and all its windows, the large canvas tents and big decks, etc.

We have a single, isolated, quiet, fully contained RV site on 67 acres. The 46ft by 14ft wide concrete pad has all the hookups (50amp power, water and sewer) and a picnic table. The ranch is at the dead end of a private road, hidden from all. The only noise you’ll hear at night are the frogs in the pond. We are a working cow ranch, dogs are welcome as long as they don’t chase cattle, deer or elk. The property is a haven for deer and migrating elk in the fall. The property has a large 30-acre pasture, canyon with walking trails, and 3 ponds on private land. There is also private access to another 40 acres of BLM land.
The ranch contains a heritage apple orchard, (over 100 years old) that is still producing. If you’re lucky to be here in the fall you could pick your own apples.
The ranch is centrally located, 14 miles to the entrance of Mesa Verde, 10 miles to Cortez, 5 miles to Phils' World North or Dolores 6 miles. We are away from traffic and neighbors, so if you need peace and quiet this is the place.

The Property
You'll have access to roam much of this 38 acre property which includes a hay farm, cliffside and clifftop trail and a section of McElmo Creek. We just ask that folks stay away from the private residence on site, which is well-marked.
We love pets and kids but due to the Wildlife with a capital W (and the occasional skunk) with whom we share this land we must limit our guests to humans ages 8 and up.
Southwest Colorado is a land of extremes. We get hot, cold and everything in between. The tents are canvas so we offer electric blankets and small space heaters for colder days, and fans for the warmer days. And in advance, we apologize for the high cleaning fee. When you're here you'll understand why with the large showerhouse and all its windows, the large canvas tents and big decks, etc.

We have a single, isolated, quiet, fully contained RV site on 67 acres. The 46ft by 14ft wide concrete pad has all the hookups (50amp power, water and sewer) and a picnic table. The ranch is at the dead end of a private road, hidden from all. The only noise you’ll hear at night are the frogs in the pond. We are a working cow ranch, dogs are welcome as long as they don’t chase cattle, deer or elk. The property is a haven for deer and migrating elk in the fall. The property has a large 30-acre pasture, canyon with walking trails, and 3 ponds on private land. There is also private access to another 40 acres of BLM land.
The ranch contains a heritage apple orchard, (over 100 years old) that is still producing. If you’re lucky to be here in the fall you could pick your own apples.
The ranch is centrally located, 14 miles to the entrance of Mesa Verde, 10 miles to Cortez, 5 miles to Phils' World North or Dolores 6 miles. We are away from traffic and neighbors, so if you need peace and quiet this is the place.

Donna and Steve were such great people. They had an incredible setup to accommodate all campers and RV’s, regardless of size. Easy in and out and all flat which makes such a difference. Their property was absolutely gorgeous. Will be back again when we’re back in the area.

Funky! The campsite was perfect for my 2 person tent with a pee-gravel pad and a nice fire pit facing the La Sal mountains! Teepee’s and stars, man.. not a bad way to end the day after adventuring Moab! Danny is SUCH a knowledgeable dude. We spoke for hours the morning I left over coffee wandering around his eclectic property. He gave me a ton of solid recommendations to further my roadtrip into CO, which was such a help. And Ringo - his peppy, friendly, and affectionate ranch dog - was the best little bud to me whenever I was at camp. Always greeting my car when I pulled up or scooting over to my campfire for some cuddles. As a dog guy + a solo camper I enjoyed his unconditional friendship :) Danny is a friend for life and I will certainly return in the future!

We had such a great stay! The tipi was a really cool and unique camping experience, close enough to Moab to get to everything easily, but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle of town. It was peaceful, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for.
Our favorite part of the trip was definitely Ringo, the sweet dog on the property. He “showed us around” and played with our dog the entire stay. Watching them run and explore together was honestly a highlight.
Danny was incredibly kind and hospitable. He checked in on us, made sure we were comfortable, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his guests having a good experience.
We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

It is a remote space and you feel so small being surrounded by the mountains. Love this open, vast area that holds a space for people to be in nature safely. The kitchen is well stocked with goodies. Everything is a quick stroll away from the teepee. The bathroom has adorable art and quotes on the wall to brighten the space up. Our teepee was warm, spacious and cozy! It rained over night and listening to the rain hit the teepee was calming. Wish we were here for two nights, but we had a quick over night stay. Love this spot and would totally come back.
