Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like. One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. And need I say anything about hiking on Mt. Shasta?

Anyone is welcome at Humboldt Hideaway, but please understand that it is an intentional place committed to anti-oppression values. It is important that it remain a safer space for people identifying as queer and/or transgender, as well as a supportive space for women and people of color to freely be. Please make sure you do not anticipate any concerns/problems with this. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The property is conveniently located midway between the coast/redwoods and the Trinity River/Trinity Alps backpacking. It is a 45 minute drive to the coast of Trinidad, which has some of the most lovely coves and beaches and Patrick's Point State Park. It is a half hour drive to the coastal Ma-le'l dunes. And it is a half hour drive inland to swimming holes on the Trinity River. OFF-THE-GRID: The place is off-the-grid, no internet, only limited solar power, an on-demand propane water heater, and heated by woodstoves. Structures are a combination of natural building, salvaged, and new materials, with a mix of low-tech alternative technologies- all built with lots of love and help from friends. BOOKING A GROUP: There is potentially both cabin space and camping spots. The property can accommodate a group of up to 10 people. If you wish to book a group, please get in touch and we'll have you book all of the spaces- including some that are not currently listed, as they are in the shared lodge space. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY: There is a guest room in the shared lodge space if you want to have a wheelchair accessible room. The lodge has a ramp for accessible entrance. Lovely property right above the river! The host is kind and thoughtful. I appreciated the self serve check in as I arrived very late after a long day of driving. There are a variety of sites, and I was lucky to be upgraded to the beautiful Perch! It has a private deck overlooking the river, comfy bed + electricity, access to sweet bathhouse with shower+toilet. My pup and I enjoyed the whole property to ourselves and spent a lot of time by the water. It's clear there is a lot of care for the space. HIGHLY recommend!

Weekend Trip to Cabin Hideaway

This is the second time I've stayed in this beautiful cabin. Each time I've extended our stay. It has a cozy feeling once you step inside, and you feel right at home. The owner is super easy to contact when you have any questions or concerns, and she's super sweet to chat with. The only complaint I have is the Hipcamp app itself. The property owners that use this app has a lot of difficulty reaching out to me or being able to get on the app itself. So you would need to make sure that you have an alternate way of communicating with management because this app is unreliable when it comes to that. Highly recommend staying here!

Such a great private retreat with our 3 pups! It has everything needed for a glamping getaway and more! Very clean all around. All amenities were there and taken care of well. Peaceful and absolutely beautiful! Nice swimming hole that we wished we could have jumped in but the weather was a bit chilly! We also stopped by the winery and met Leith who gave us a great rundown of the history which was a pleasant little bonus! We will come back next summer for a few more day with friends to enjoy!

What an incredible story this place has. The owners have clearly followed God's creative direction and created a heavenly oasis in the middle of the Trinity Alps. The highlight for sure is rafting down the river, which I didn't have enough time to do. This is def a family camp, stay for a few days kinda place. My studio room was big and clean and had everything I needed microwaving my dinner and a quick breakfast. Although you could happily be fed every meal and drink at the cafe!

The cabin is super clean and at a very cheap price. We ended up extending our stay. Very close to miles of trails in the Mount Shasta area and restaurants nearby if you want to dine out. And the owner is very sweet and easy to contact if you have any questions or concerns. Highly recommend.

Alpen Vineyard Hideaway is wonderful! So thoughtfully created and operated. Coming to this glamping hideaway after a few nights of tent camping (which was lovely as well) was the perfect and comfortable way to end our multi-day camping trip! The Groves family have thought of nearly everything! The only recommended additions I would suggest guests bring are a tablecloth for the picnic table and a shade umbrella for the beach at the LOVELY swimming hole! Keith, the winemaker/owner, and his family clearly love what they do, and enjoy sharing the rich history of their special valley and vineyard with others! Thank you to the Groves family and all who help make the winery and lodgings so wonderful!

Beautiful land with obviously great views. The treehouse is surrounded by, well . . . trees, with a door and porch looking out onto a meadow. Sitting on the porch with some coffee in the morning was perfect. Much of the road back to the property is flat gravel but the last part is a really rocky, bumpy road. Drive slowly and carefully and reconsider any vehicle with minimal clearance.

Weekend Trip to Radio Ranch Camp

This stay was everything I needed. I booked the Aristocrat trailer with my dog, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and intention went into every detail. The trailer was cozy, stylish, and full of charm. Mallory and Jeff have created something truly special. The property is beautifully designed, with trails to explore, maps to guide you, and welcome kits for both humans and pups! Even the dog leash hooks in the kitchen made me smile, such a thoughtful touch that shows how well they understand their guests. The outdoor shower was a bonus - peaceful, refreshing, and somehow made me feel more connected to the land. And the shared kitchen and dining space were so well done. It felt communal without being crowded, and added a layer of comfort and ease to the whole experience. Mallory was so sweet when we checked out, she made sure everything went smoothly and it was obvious how much she cares about this place. That kind of genuine hospitality really stayed with me. Already planning my return, next time with people I love so they can experience the magic too!

The Alpen Cellars campsite was so wonderfully quiet and peaceful with a view of the vineyard and mountains. It was equipped with all the essentials needed for cooking, the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom and shower facility clean, spacious and well equipped with soap, shampoo and also an assortment of sunscreen and bug spray in case you forgot your own. We spent 4 nights, and we are already looking forward to coming next year.

This was my second time staying at Shasta View and it is such a special place! Very comfortable, and beautiful spots to camp. It is an extremely short walk to the meadow where the mountain is (1 minute), and it is such an incredible view. Plenty of shade in over 90 degree weather for us. The camp kitchen is well equipped and spacious - we loved the sinks for dishwashing. The stream water was clean, cool and refreshing on hot days as well. Feels like you are pretty removed from civilization but town is only 20 minutes away and it is a maximum of 35 minutes to all main attractions around Shasta. Directions were a bit confusing but we all found it and had a great group trip!

This place is AMAZING!! We will be back the first chance we get. Well worth a 9 hour drive with 2 adults and 3 dogs in a compact car. They had everything ready for us when we arrived. The kitchen is complete with a pantry full of spices and staples. They have dishes and silverware. A griddle and a hot plate to cook on if you don’t want to cook over ther fire. They even have an espresso/cappuccino maker. Loved the coffee maker in the tent. They have paddle boards,canoes and fishing poles to use at your leisure. It’s stunningly beautiful here! So much so, we stayed an extra day! It’s easy access to the river from the camp right around the corner. Our dogs liked it so much , I’m having trouble getting the last one in the car. We had the best time! Dreading going back to the city. Going back to a heat wave. Bummer! At least when I get back to work, I will have purpose. To keep working to save enough to come back! Thank you so much for a much needed break from L.A. and the best most memorable vacation EVER! This place is the best. Will never camp again. For us, it’s Glamping or nothing.
