Flat areas are all over if you explore, and use your feet to brush aside rocks and twigs, to lay down a tent base, as we do every time we camp in the backcountry. The geography of these mountains is just that, hills and mountains. The vista at the top of the property is gorgeous and easily camps 5 tents spaced out. The property does offer many other great camping areas, and I’m more than happy to point them out. Yosemite is 30 minutes away, Don Pedro lake is 30 minutes, Cherry Lake is 30 minutes, Preston falls and Carlon falls are both 30 min away.  Downtown Groveland Is 7 minutes away, and other historic towns are not too far.  Close to many swimming holes. Rainbow pools is 15 minutes away. 10 min from the local grocery store and other local shops. Base Camp is just off of highway 120. If you are looking for man made and leveled campsites, then this is not your basecamp. This land is a gorgeous 20 acres that means a lot to us.  It's space to find your peace of mind and pitch a tent or hammock, as you would when hiking the backcountry.  Aside from complimentary ice water, potty, shower, soaps, sanitizer, sunscreen, first aid, communal fire pit, wood stove and dishwashing area) this is not "glamping".  If you are  a person who appreciates nature and making due with what the land has provided, then we are a great fit. Guests have 20 acres to find a secluded, or socially distanced spot to pitch camp. This is for people that know how to camp in the backcountry -  Without a trash can, who don’t leave cigarette butts, respect the land and would rather not be sectioned off. Flat areas are all over if you explore, and use your feet to brush aside rocks and twigs, to lay down a tent base, as we do every time we camp in the backcountry. The geography of these mountains is just that, hills and mountains. The vista at the top of the property is gorgeous and easily camps 5 tents spaced out. The property does offer many other great camping areas, and I’m more than happy to point them out. Yosemite is 30 minutes away, Don Pedro lake is 30 minutes, Cherry Lake is 30 minutes, Preston falls and Carlon falls are both 30 min away.  Downtown Groveland Is 7 minutes away, and other historic towns are not too far.  Close to many swimming holes. Rainbow pools is 15 minutes away. 10 min from the local grocery store and other local shops. Base Camp is just off of highway 120. All sites have beautiful open views of the property and river canyon with natural shade in the morning and late afternoon. Sounds of the river will lull you to sleep. Although partially shaded, please plan to provide your own portable shade structure(s) during late morning and afternoon as the direct sun can be an inconvenience. The Stranges are professional fish and wildlife biologists and have decided to share this special place for others to enjoy. The property hosts a diversity of plant and wildlife species that might be observed during your stay. Prehistoric and historic resources can be observed along the river corridor. Please be aware that some wildlife species including rattlesnakes, bears, and mountain lions have been observed on the 117-acre property and could potentially be observed near the campsites. The Ranch's northern portion of the property supports a leased farming operation. Farming operations should not interfere with camping activities. Day trips are possible to Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, Calaveras Big Trees State Park, local caverns and wine tasting, and historic gold towns.

Come enjoy the fresh air and quiet at this relaxing and serene 3bd/1.5 bath 1968 groovy A-frame cabin. Great WIFI! Located on 1.5 wooded acres, the backyard is the Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The cabin has a huge redwood deck surrounded by blooming Dogwoods during the springtime. Our year-round Moran Creek runs on the edge of the property. All wood inside: tongue-in-groove pine ceilings and walnut paneling, large wood-burning stove which has three flat places to cook. We offer a fully stocked kitchen with vintage pink and white formica counters and breakfast bar which seats four. Dining on resin-topped circular table made by designer of first chair-lift in Squaw Valley. Gigantic redwood wrap-around deck set up with comfy furniture, table and chairs to enjoy the bliss of Big Trees-Calaveras State Park. On the main floor there are two bedrooms: both with queen beds, a full bath with large bathtub/shower; in loft: one queen and one twin, and a 1/2 bath. Extra airbeds are located in the closet. My two dogs and I had a very nice stay at this Hipcamp location. The hosts were responsive and helpful. The cabin is cozy, with a fully stocked kitchen, board games, DVDs, and a very useful binder with local information and things to do. The property is wooded and hilly, with paths cut through it, multiple seating and eating areas, and plenty of outdoor activities/games.. Nights were quiet (I did hear shooting practice down the road for a couple of hours one day). Overall, a relaxing and exceptionally well-set-up place to stay, particularly for a group..

1 night at Angels Hideaway

Had a great time camping with family in the yurt. During the winter it takes a while to get it warmed up. The yurt isn't insulated so you have to maintain a good fire in the woodstove to keep it warm. Was able to get it to about 70°f . Holiday decorations and treats were provided, such a charming space! The view is amazing the highlight of the trip was watching the sunset and the mist roll in down the valley and listening to coyotes and cows during the evening. I wasn't expecting to take a shower since it was so cold outside but the instructions for it were easy enough and the water got plenty hot enough to shower outside in December. The outhouse is clean and pine fresh. Checkout instructions were easy enough just take trash with you from the yurt turn off the water and lock up. I would definitely visit again in the spring or fall!

Weekend Trip to Angels Hideaway

We had a great time at the Angel's Hideaway yurt. Commiunication with Audrey and Michael was A plus to get all the info we needed prior to our stay. It was easy to get to and as described. The property is lovely and felt very secluded. The yurt itself is rustic but that's what we expected and we were prepared. That said there were plenty of amenities beyond just a roof over one's head. Gotta love a yurt! Much more fun/easy in cold and misty weather than tent camping. The wood stove is amazing, the beds were comfy. Would def return in the future!

Weekend Trip to Nolla A-Frames Near Yosemite

I was looking for a last minute escape to the mountains to clear my head but didn’t want to deal with a) my own tent or gear, b) a big campground with tons of other people, c) pretentious “glamping” tents, or d) a soulless “cabin” for family reunions. Bonus points for cool design. Liza and Tom’s site was perfect! Tucked up in the woods so it feels remote but easily accessible from the road and just a few minutes drive to cell service and food options. I was in cabin 2 next to a friendly couple in cabin 3, but when I was inside it felt like I was all alone. The A-frame itself is a cool minimalist Scandinavian design, with comfy beds and an incredible floor to ceiling window to watch the sunset and pick out constellations after dark. Outhouse/toilet was comfy, clean and didn’t smell at all. Showers were modern and clean with fresh towels (they’re across the main road so best to drive). I can’t wait to come back for a longer stay!

We loved our stay! It was everything we were hoping for. The A-Frames were very comfortable for the two of us and our 130lb dog. The camp site itself was very quiet and private. Really easy access to the park and nice to have the option of using the showers at their sister property if needed. We're planning on coming back and staying again!

Weekend Trip to Camp Electra in Mokelumne Hill

Ryan was a great host and very gracious. We purchased firewood from him and he brought us kindling twice when we were having trouble, teaching us about making fires along the way. We have an RV, but there is an outhouse with toilet and hot shower, and a sink to do dishes on the other side. Great view of the stars with minimal light pollution. Would recommend.

Weekend Trip to Walden Ranch

Alan's land is peaceful and a sight to behold. The camp layout gives you plenty of privacy, yet you're just a short walk from flush toilets, a food-prep area, a fire ring, a big table, and even a sink — everything you need close by without feeling crowded. Alan himself has a sweet, laid-back nature, and we really enjoyed chatting with him about his animals. There are so many sweet creatures to wake up with in the morning (and we really fell in love with the brown and white ranch dog who is a cuddle bug). The whole place has a calm, welcoming energy. We absolutely can’t wait to come back. And for birders — this was a paradise. We spotted at least 20 different species right from the property. Highly recommend!

We decided last minute on a stay near Yosemite and this place was conveniently near the highway leading to the West entrance but still private and secluded. The views at night with the stars were beautiful!!! We did stay after a snowstorm so it was cold but bundled up with our own extra blankets and sleeping bags and were cozy! Really cozy and very nice to have extra blankets and the charger.

This place is special. If you’re looking to get up close with herds of cattle, alpaca, horses, mules, farm dogs, geese and a massive pig this is the spot. Be prepared for lots of night noises- the animals talked all night long. We had great weather and the place to ourselves which was a treat but this farm would be great for groups. Our dog was off leash running with the farm dogs most of the time- and you could smell it on her. Alan’s dogs were very gentle, but they have free range. There was also a comically large pig wandering about. If Alan asks if you want to feed the herd, say yes! We witnessed a minutes-old calf getting up on her feet, while we slinging hay. It was a very cool experience. We would definitely come back for a visit.

The A-frame cabin was a beautiful, scenic stay within convenient distance from Yosemite. I found it easy to check in, and the hosts provide useful guidance for finding the cabin. Cell service is spotty, so be sure to plan ahead. I found it easy to find, but be aware that you'll want to plan ahead. The view out the cabin window was stunning, and I found all accommodations - bed, desk, lamp, battery, and shower - very comfortable. I will always remember the stars and moonlight.

As a solo traveler (with canine companion) I appreciate good communication with hosts and feeling safe within my camping surroundings. Tom and Liza are thoughtful hosts and Cabin One is charming. It is easily accessible via dirt road with a near-by porta-potty. If you want to feel more remote during your camping experience inquire about cabins two & three (as well as accessibility.) A Yeti full of a generous amount of clean, potable water is provided. I camp with extra warm Rumple-style blankets and hand-heater packets because I get cold easily. I was cozy overnight during my early November stay and enjoyed breakfast in the morning sun at the adjacent picnic table. The photos in the multiple reviews all accurately depict the set-up at the Cabin One sight. Trust the pin & directions to your campsites provided :) I’m looking forward to camping during late-spring/early summer and trying Campsites Two/Three!

We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday with our 9-month-old, and it was such a wonderful experience. We loved that we could upgrade provisions, we used the propane tank for the fire pit and the pour-over coffee setup, which came with freshly roasted beans (amazing!). The whole place has this relaxing, no-nonsense vibe that we really appreciated. We went during the fall, and it was so beautiful seeing the vines changing color. The electric blanket made our night cozy and comfortable even when it got chilly. Aaron was outstanding. His hospitality, knowledge, and genuine passion for his craft really stood out. We enjoyed wine tasting, hanging out in the “vincade,” and my husband watched a bit of Monday Night Football! The wine was fantastic, and we were so impressed we ended up joining the wine club. The yurt was spacious and comfy, the bed was great, and there was plenty of room for our daughter to crawl around. The portapotty was clean, and everything felt thoughtfully maintained. Just an overall relaxing, memorable trip. Can’t wait to come back!

Absolutely amazing place to stay. Scott was very nice and accommodating pack light because almost everything you need is there already. My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful stay there away from everybody and everything. It truly is a hidden gem!
