Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps. Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online. Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time. If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away.. When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay. We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away. From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them. To the south are Sinkyone Wilderness trails where herds of Roosevelt Elk graze on the grasslands uplifted from the Pacific. To the north, the Lost Coast Trail follows spectacular black sand beaches and crosses creeks that tumble down to the ocean. Restaurants, beachcombing, fishing, kayaking and surfing are minutes away. Magnificent clear night skies are pierced by thousands of brightly twinkling stars. Full moons are so bright that you can read by their light. Abundant wildlife from birds to bears to salamanders all inhabit the forests surrounding Chemise Mountain Retreat. We had a fabulous experience at Wendy and John's. The campsite was perfect under a full moon. We really appreciated the sparkling clean bathroom and shower. The dinner was amazing- a 5 course meal that rivaled any fine dining restaurant we ever experienced! Wendy and John are fantastic hosts in every respect. We enjoyed celebrating the election results together 11/4/25. We look forward to returning again and again.

Usually camp sites are small and rarely provide plenty of room. We rented #7 for 8 people. Honestly, we could have set up 20 tents it is very large. It is flat, with two large tables, 1 pitfire, running water, and two modern restrooms with a sink, lovely, They offer free wood logs at the entrance of the camp. You are right there, walking distance to the beach on a trail, or you can visit the pine forest. The no-pets policy should be revisited; that is the reason I almost cancel. Restroom code is a good idea, but a surprise when you have no cell reception, it can be a challenge. We ultimately got our access code. Lastly, no one came to bug us, which made us feel comfortable. good quality campsite a few miles from Mendocino, beach etc

We needed to change sites last minute and the host was immediately helpful and responsive via text. Bathrooms were well kept and spotless. We walked to the beach for sunset, there’s a nice little path that takes you through the woods rather than having to cross the road, highly recommend!

I'd love to keep this place a secret, but it is the perfect getaway. Beautiful property in the redwoods with a good mix of clearings and coverage. You can buy firewood on-site from a lovely and friendly family, which is a huge plus, and there's a big stinkin' water filter at the water spout. The place is well taken care of. Just don't leave your coffee unattended, the redwoods shed their needles year-round! Anyway, this spot is just what we were looking for. On our second day, we visited the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, just 10 minutes from the campsite. I highly recommend a visit if you stay here for more than one night.

Lovely large field. Great shower and bathroom. We really enjoyed the fruit crumble we ordered in advance. Our dog loved the grassy field and got along well with the resident dog. Ferndale was movie perfect. Super coffee shop and some good restaurant options. Beach was close by for a long walk. 10 out of ten.

What a wonderful stay! Wendy and John (and Louie the dog!) are warm, generous hosts! Our Tucked Away camping spot was just right as we made our way up the coast. It was a delight to go to sleep with the sounds of the ocean and wake to birds singing and cattle lowing. Shower was warm with excellent water pressure. Definitely recommend adding on Wendy’s delicious soup! Stop looking at your options! This is the one!

if you have low expectations and are low maintenance, this place is for you. i could not find any water spigots as advertised other than dish cleaning sink by the bathroom. it is self check in so you kind of have to figure everything out on your own. it is next to a trail to the beach. lots of beautiful scenery. campsite 10 gets some sunshine in the morning and has bumpy terrain. in general, i would recommend this to others only if there were no other options.

Quiet spot for the RV. Easily fit our 25 foot airstream but disconnected the truck. Nice paved bike trail along the coast right next to Glass Beach. Visited the Schnaubelt Distillery and enjoyed a flight of their liquor and cocktails!

Weekend Trip to Bigfoot’s Coastal Hideaway

The host was incredibly kind and easy to get a hold of. Our site was a bit smaller than expected (we have a 100lbs dog) and she let us move to a larger site. Everything was clean, porta potties were spotless, and having firewood sold there definitely lightened our load when packing. As for the wood chips- they definitely aren’t flammable. Trust me, I tried using them as kindling and it wouldn’t lite so no worries on that. The wood chips actually gave the site a very clean feeling. The trails are short, and it’s definitely the type of site to hang out and relax. There were a TON of banana slugs which was awesome and the property was less than 10 mins from the town that has an outdoor store in case you forget a blanket like we did! Loved it here, will be coming back!

Weekend Trip to Bigfoot’s Coastal Hideaway

A wonderful campsite with a creek nearby. Huckleberries/Blueberries were there for us to pick but we did agitate some yellow jackets and I was bitten (there was a yellow jacket nest in the trees behind the Ravens Nest). It was a nice site with neighbors a good distance away for privacy. We did encounter many spiders especially under the picnic table, but it was fitting for the season and completely understandable. Overall we had a peaceful time! Definitely recommend setting up camp and venturing to Fort Bragg at least once during your trip, there are many shops and wonderful restaurants to explore. It was a wonderful experience at Bigfoots Coastal Hideaway, we hope to be back soon!
