River Ridge Institute, our non-profit, hosts a variety of events for the public.
Please note: you are expected to leave the ranch and kitchen area as you found it, i.e., dishes washed thoroughly and dried and put away, recycling separated from trash, food scraps in compost buckets, sticky marshmallow removed from forks and surfaces (ick!). Thank you.
Enjoy: The Kitchen has a 3-burner cooktop, large fridge, microwave, full dishes and utensils and pots and pans with a big washing area in the back. Propane barbecue grill.. Ancestral land of the Foothill Yokuts tribe. Homesteaded in 1859, owned by the Negus family from 1909-2000. Barbara and I bought it to save it from subdivision and it's now protected by a Conservation Easement and acts as a community center for the arts, music, poetry, gatherings and outdoor education. Conveniently located right on Highway 180 - 8 miles outside of the entrance to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. This is the absolute most convenient spot for tourists headed into the park as it is the last stop before the park entrance. Although the property is currently going through transition, it is still a very charming peaceful and very special location.
Dispersed Tent sites are not yet clearly defined, so it is going to be first come first serve basis. We also offer a tent site that is setup for your arrival and 2 RV parking spots in our parking lot. This area is so peaceful, and I'm excited to share my space with you! I also run the lodge on site and make fresh coffee and espresso each morning. You are welcome to use the communal tables in the lodge, as well as the restroom during the day. In the evenings, we have a porta potty available!
I've owned the property since 2009 and am working on rebuilding and cleaning the property after the loss of my husband. Please be mindful that this is a work in progress but is in an absolutely ideal location, and I love hosting! Looking forward to seeing you.

Ancestral land of the Foothill Yokuts tribe. Homesteaded in 1859, owned by the Negus family from 1909-2000. Barbara and I bought it to save it from subdivision and it's now protected by a Conservation Easement and acts as a community center for the arts, music, poetry, gatherings and outdoor education. While on a family backpacking excursion through Sequoia King’s Canyon National Park, and the surrounding area, we came across this charming campground. A long-forgotten chapel in the mountains that was formerly a summer camp.
From here, a short 15-minute drive will take you directly to the main entrance of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park for access to the Giant Sequoias at Grant Grove and the Grant Grove Village. For those who prefer to travel off the beaten path, a short 30-minute hike will take you to the National Forest.

Conveniently located right on Highway 180 - 8 miles outside of the entrance to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. This is the absolute most convenient spot for tourists headed into the park as it is the last stop before the park entrance. Although the property is currently going through transition, it is still a very charming peaceful and very special location.
Dispersed Tent sites are not yet clearly defined, so it is going to be first come first serve basis. We also offer a tent site that is setup for your arrival and 2 RV parking spots in our parking lot. This area is so peaceful, and I'm excited to share my space with you! I also run the lodge on site and make fresh coffee and espresso each morning. You are welcome to use the communal tables in the lodge, as well as the restroom during the day. In the evenings, we have a porta potty available!
I've owned the property since 2009 and am working on rebuilding and cleaning the property after the loss of my husband. Please be mindful that this is a work in progress but is in an absolutely ideal location, and I love hosting! Looking forward to seeing you.

Our ranch is a 5 acre walnut grove, of which there is a dedicated RV/Camp site that is fenced off and landscaped for your outdoor country/farm life experience. Camp site was clean had a cute little pond to walk around. We also played on the tennis courts (they provided tennis raquets and balls). We made a day trek to death valley national park, which took about 2 hours from the site. The camp site was nice because it was quiet and not super busy. We took our two kids and 2 dogs, everyone had a great time!

I absolutely loved Michael's camping spot! The drive up through the valley was super easy, beautiful, and very much enjoyable. The lot itself had tons of places to put down your tent, and a great spot for a fire. I loved walking around the property and looking at the different trees nearby. Will definitely be returning for a weekend getaway.

This was our first time using Hipcamp and we couldn’t have asked for a better first time site than Thistledew. My husband and I, plus our two dogs, loved the site.
Some highlights:
- It was incredibly spacious, quiet, and accessible.
- We felt comfortable letting our pups off leash due to how open and spacious the site was.
- The water and electricity hookups were a total plus!
- Michael was a great host and incredibly responsive to any and all questions.
- Sequoia/Kings Canyon entrance was a short 20 min drive away, so it was a perfect site for an easy day trip.
- The views were amazing.
Some additional notes for future campers (that are not at all a negative about the site)
- We were guided by our GPS to take Dry Creek Rd. This road is narrow and not suitable for wider cars. There is however a highway that also leads to the road that connects to the site. We recommend the highway for wider vehicles or those who are anxious about narrow roads.
- Yes, there is a road that is next to the site. Cars are incredibly few and far in between. The road is also a good distance from the site so not at all a danger to off-leash pups. The site was secluded, and I wouldn’t let the road be a deterrent in booking.
- Our 2WD vehicle made it just fine to the site.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and look forward to coming back!

This campground is great! Awsome views, great location, quiet and private. There was power and water for use. Plenty of flat areas for your tent and personal camp toilet. About 15 mins from the kings canyon gate and 1hr from general sherman tree. Nearest gas station and coffee shop is about 20 minutes away.
