There is NOTHING like being in the wilderness of this area for a good re-centering of the soul! We have found it to be a true blessing for our family, and we hope you can experience this blessing as we share this space with you. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe! In the area there are many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting! It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. We are happy to make suggestions for local hiking areas, like the Devil's Slide "Gorge" only a 15 minute drive but like a trip to mini Yosemite. The Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the our house (literally 200' away!). Our property became a pivotal point of fighting the fire in our community known as the “Ant Hill Army”.

Our property is lakeside at Rollins Lake In Colfax. We live on over 30 private, beautiful acres with footpath access to Rollins Lake. (3 minute walk from the dome or house, and 10-15 minutes from the cabin) where most summer days here are spent swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing ect., down at the water. Please note the Cabin is set on a seasonal CANNABIS garden. All three sites are vacation spots with AC and WIFI, not just simple accommodations, but experiences. We have a beautiful spot where you will not see any neighbors so it is peaceful and private with gorgeous 360-degree views. It is also very safe! Bask in nature, quiet, and privacy! In summer there is a 3-night minimum for the cabin and dome. Occasionally a two day midweek will pop up on the schedule last minute. It is quiet and beautiful. Usually cooler because it is right on the water. The dock goes out to the 4 acre pond which is stocked with Bass. You will need to keep food inside of the Cabin/Sauna because we share the space with the animals that live here. The pond is shared with one other neighbor, so you may see other people playing on the pond or hear nearby activity through the trees. It's a great place to hang your hammock and bring a good book or birdwatch. Frolic has been an adventure for me in Saying Yes to life and the rewarding challenges it brings. I fell in love with the huge grama oaks, the pristine pond and the feral overgrown everything. It has been a workin' progress and lots of time to sweat, craft, pause and listen. The property is shaped like a pint glass, running north to south, with a lovely bowl the pond sits in and an ancient meadow up behind the cabin full of apples 🍎 & pears 🍐. Up the hill, a hotter zone, more exposed with its own beauty, where we live. On the occasion, one of us may come down to the pond for a swim, especially when it's too hot up top. We will be respectful but likely just need to cool down. Frolic has been a great teacher in reminding me to PLAY, relax and go with the flow. I hope you can find the same joy and rejuvenation here.

Very private; seldom do you come across other people. Amador brewing, Solid Ground brewing and the world famous Poor Reds are about 30 minutes away. Learn more about this land: Renovated guesthouse on 20 acres in the gold country. 1900 feet elevation. 30 minute hike to the Consumnes River, with beaches and swimming. Great sunrises, sunsets and stars. Mountain biking available. Rock outcroppings for climbers. About a 30 minute drive to numerous wineries and the foothill towns of Plymouth and Placerville. The kitchen has a vintage stove with four burners and two ovens, microwave, toaster oven, and sink.  You will also have access to a full size refrigerator. Outside is a propane bbq with two side burners for your use. There is one bedroom with a full bed and in the living room is a trundle bed that converts to two twins. We have installed hardwood laminate flooring throughout guesthouse; some of the pictures show the prior cement floor. There is wifi, Verizon and At&t get good reception.  We use our phones for internet and streaming.  There is a 50 inch TV and dvd player. Bring your own hardware/cords if you want to stream from your phone.   We have goats  if you would like to feed or with. My wife and I live on the property in a house about 200 feet away. You will have as much privacy/interaction as you desire.  Our garage is attached to the guesthouse,  so I may need to access it occasionally during your stay.  We also travel so you may have the property to yourself. We do have two dogs on the property. The Australian healeris very friendly. The Anatolian shepherd is a watch dog so he will bark at you upon arrival and then settle down and leave you alone. You may hear him barking at night at any moving wildlife (deer, turkey, etc.). The last 4.5 miles of the drive to the property is on a winding road.  Please drive carefully.

So much to do or not! Overlook Trail is 1/2 mile from the cabin. My two dogs and I had a very nice stay at this Hipcamp location. The hosts were responsive and helpful. The cabin is cozy, with a fully stocked kitchen, board games, DVDs, and a very useful binder with local information and things to do. The property is wooded and hilly, with paths cut through it, multiple seating and eating areas, and plenty of outdoor activities/games.. Nights were quiet (I did hear shooting practice down the road for a couple of hours one day). Overall, a relaxing and exceptionally well-set-up place to stay, particularly for a group..

The cabin was very cozy and the scenery was beautiful. It was near a lot of wonderful hiking trails and a cute town. It was the perfect mix of secluded but not totally isolated and even though it was cold, the cabin is a converted sauna and got very toasty with a fire.

Wow what an absolutely beautiful property. Rachel and Jon are very kind and helpful. We enjoyed a few hours of hiking around the property. Loved seeing so much wild life and the sweet cows that graze around the property. I can see why summer would be a more enjoyable time to visit. We stayed in cabin # 2 and although a very beautiful spot and cabin, For the $480 for 2 nights price I was surprised there wasn’t sheets/blankets or a propane stove or bbq or some way to cook food. so make sure you bring anything necessary to cook food and linens and blankets for the bed. There is a fire pit outside but no grill or way to cook food. It does have a wood stove inside as a heat source so make sure you also bring firewood especially in the colder months.

Exceeded our expectations! The swimming hole was beautiful and the river was great for kayaking. It is shared with the other cabin so it’s a great spot to get with friends and rent both out. We got lucky and the second cabin wasn’t occupied. It is very private and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. There was a portable toilet really close which was super convenient! We went to the pond near by and caught a couple huge bass! It sure is a hidden gem. Can’t wait to go back!

Had a wonderful time at this site! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how open and spacious the property is. There’s so much room to spread out, relax, and really take in the natural beauty of the area. Whether you’re coming with family, a group of friends, or bringing your dogs along, this place has the perfect setup to make everyone feel at home and comfortable. The cabin was clean, cozy, and incredibly well-stocked with everything we needed — you can really tell a lot of thought and care has gone into making it feel welcoming. The site also offers a great selection of games and activities, which kept both the kids and adults happily entertained for hours. There’s something for everyone to enjoy. Steven and Michelle were so kind and super responsive to any questions or needs we had. Looking forward to booking again in the future !

We loved our time at the cabin. The trees provided a wonderful respite from the heat. We had deer drinking at the stream nearly every day. The thoughtful touches that Steven and Michelle have put into the both the cabin and the surrounding area made our vacation very special.

Our group of 3 adults and 5 kids had a wonderful time! The cabin was clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of space for tents. The swimming holes were gorgeous, even better than the pictures. There was a good mix of shallow water appropriate for our babies, and deeper water for swimming. It was also fun to watch the chickens! We ended up leaving a night early due to a wildfire in the area, but it was a great trip nonetheless. We are already talking about trying to come back in the future.

We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin. It was private & secluded. We actually never made it down to the lake which was okay with us because we were out exploring other things. The cabin had everything we needed to make a small breakfast, enjoy coffee (Keurig) with coffee mate, sugar, and even had some snacks & SPF for us. It was the perfect accommodation for our needs. The road getting up to the house was a little sketchier than anticipated but we put our Jeep in 4Wd & it was fine. I think it would have been okay without it though.

The cabin was secluded and we didn’t see anyone else during our stay there, and it was cute and comfortable. Hosts were great about taking us down to lake which was great for swimming and water activities. Road to cabin is dirt and gravel and we could not do it in our non-4 wheel drive car, but we could park further down and walk up. Just beware of this.

Steven and Michelle’s place was exactly what we needed! We have a pretty spacious yurt we were looking to pitch and their property provided more than enough space. The dogs loved the grounds and with the games and activities throughout, we never got bored. In enjoying our downtime I wanted to take advantage of the outdoor cooking options and got a chance to smoke a chicken and grill a bunch(we enjoyed it so much, when we got home we promptly bought a smoker and a grill). Of course at night, we took advantage of the fire pit and the screen for projecting movies. This place was everything we’d hope for.

Where to go

Stanislaus National Forest

Named after the river running through it, Stanislaus National Forest has three wilderness areas—Carson-Iceberg, Emigrant, Mokelumne Wilderness Area. Hike, backpack, and fish in the Sierra Nevada mountains and spend the night to enjoy the area for a couple of days. Campers who are staying in the forest will need a free pass from the visitor center. Bring the tent or RV to campsites with full hookups, or grab a backpack and hike in to dispersed camping all around the forest. In winter, rent one of the stocked cabins to serve as a homebase for backcountry skiing. Most wilderness trailheads are inaccessible for hiking during snowier months though.

Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park

In the Sierra Nevada foothills west of Plymouth is Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park. It’s named for the bedrock mortar holes carved into marbleized limestone used by indigenous peoples to grind acorns from the surrounding oak forest. Campers can reserve traditional bark houses in the park for a primitive camping experience with a historical connection. Indian Grinding Rock also has overnight campsites for tents and RVs with firepits, picnic tables, and token-operated hot showers for a refresh after a day of exploring Chaw’se Regional Indian Museum.

Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park

After gold was discovered by James W. Marshall in 1848, people flocked to the region resulting in the historic Gold Rush. Memorializing the site on Nisenan peoples’ land, campers at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park can pan for American River gold and see important Gold Rush sites on ranger-led Gold Discovery Tours.
