This magical place is far out there! We are providing a setting for those adventurers who want a place to REALLY "get away from it all." Expect a beautiful 30 minute drive on gravel roads through mature Redwood forest from the village of Mendocino. The property is also accessible from Fort Bragg via HWY 20 and road 408/Little Lake Rd. The Aloha Cabin is a beautiful one room timber frame cabin located on a ridge top in the Redwood forest. Upon entering the gate at Old Mill Farm the Aloha Cabin is the first building you see as you come out of the thick forest and into the mixed meadow/forest ridge top of the property. Old Mill Farm is a 320 ranch in the middle of Mendocino county's 50,000 acre JDSF (Jackson State Demonstration Forest.) The Aloha sits by itself about a 1/2 mile from the rest of the ranch buildings and like the entire ranch is completely off-grid. Electricity is provided by a solar photovoltaic system and battery back up. All water is pumped with solar power and gravity fed throughout the property. You will be imbedded in the outdoors with ample opportunity to commune with the forest and the wildlife that live there. The Aloha has a kitchen equipped for cooking with refrigerator, range and oven. There is a bathroom with a flush toilet and a private outdoor shower. We provide linens and bedding for the full size bed and towels for 4 guests. There is also a sleeping loft (with no bedding included but can be added as an extra.) Please bring your own pads and sleeping bags to use the loft or pitch a tent in the front yard. The front yard is fenced and has a fire pit. Always be fire conscious - never burn outside of the fire pit and extinguish all fires before leaving or bed. You are free to relax in the natural beauty of this place, meditate while walking our earthen labyrinth or hike around the property along the ridge and on the logging roads that descend on each side. Please respect all signs and private residents. JDSF has extensive hiking and mountain bike trails accessible right from the cabin or a short drive away. The breathtaking Mendocino Coast offers an abundance of activities from the forest to the ocean headlands and beaches.

For 70 years the Nelson family has been farming vineyards and attracting people every year to the beautiful region of Hopland. It is truly a family affair as each generation has put in their time and energy, infusing this ranch with their own flair. In 1951 Herman and Clara Nelson sold their ranch in what is now Silicon Valley and headed north, landing in Southern Mendocino County near the town of Hopland. Since then the mature prune orchards and grass-fed sheep that dotted the farm’s rolling hills have given way to an abundance of sustainable vineyards as well as Bartlett pears, an olive orchard, and live Christmas Trees. This is a shared campground with 3 separate spots that are relatively private. Host will NOT be there when you arrive unless prior arrangement made. This campground is yours to enjoy. The expectation is 'leave it better than before so the next guests may enjoy! This is camping. BRING YOUR OWN GEAR. Put your own linens and bedding on top of what is already on bed. I can provide linens and bedding for an extra $25 for glamping spots. Beds have pillows on them. There is wildlife. This includes bears and mountain lions in the area. You will not see either but good to be aware they exist. This is a safe 'neighborhood'. We do not have problems with thievery. However, always keep your valuables safe IN YOUR CAR. There is no Power. No WiFi. Cell phone coverage not guaranteed. Depends on your carrier. DOWNLOAD DIRECTIONS AND INFO BEFORE ARRIVING TO SITE. There is Poison Oak. Stay in the designated areas. If you are susceptible, bring and wash with Tecnu. Or use dish soap and wash. Poison oak is an oil. Most importantly: Don't Touch. No Fires allowed during Summer months. Be super careful. No candles. Smoke in fire pit area. Grass is a tinderbox. 1 spark can ignite all. There is a hose connected to kitchen. There is a Pet Fee stay. 1 pet per site allowed unless prior arrangement made. We ask that guests clean up your camping spot upon departure to 'make the place better than before' for the next guests. Butterfly Landing is a sweet landing spot! Birds, butterflies and small wildlife love this spot. The habitat includes many native species of plant life. A pretty knoll that is on the top of a 40 acre property. Views of vineyards, redwood trees, valley floor, and expansive sky. Private, Quiet and beautiful. A central sunny meadow ties together 3 distinct private areas with a communal kitchen, bath-house, picnic-table sitting area and parking on the side. There is 1 outhouse that has a mailbox system to ensure privacy. (Please read manual on picnic table for instructions) Kitchen. 2 burner propane stove, and sink with running water (cold). (Good for drinking. Pressure is low) There is basic cooking and dishware. Cleaning supplies. A Trash and Recycle Bin. And a Compost bucket where all food scraps should be disposed of and then covered with wood-chips. Kitchen should stay clean at all times. Please put dishes away in the tote to keep clean and critter free. Bath-house. Shower with hot water. 1 shared Outhouse. Please use the path that goes to the outhouse (unless you are in the Greenroom) and make sure you put the mailbox red flag up so that others know it is occupied. ((Then don't forget to put it back down!!) Common sitting area. There are 2 picnic tables, Lots of umbrellas that can be moved wherever, a fire pit/table and lots of seating. Parking. There are room for 3 vehicles. Parking is to be in designated parking area please. Sunny meadow and forest shade make this a lovely landing spot to relax and enjoy nature, and a great opportunity to turn off those cell phones!! Butterfly Landing is about 1/2 mile from HWY 128 that runs through Anderson Valley. This location is the perfect location for it all. Wine tasting in the Valley, Navarro River swimming during the summer months, and the Mendocino coast is nearby. This is an Honor system camping spot. We ask that you leave your spot 'better than before', as in 'Leaver no Trace'. I rely on everyone to do their part in the communal kitchen to keep clean and free of critters. SUPER IMPORTANT to put all food scraps in the compost bin. NO food anything in the trash. This is how the bears show up. Please do your part. Thank you so much. We had a wonderful stay at Aloha Cabin! The property is secluded, peaceful, and perfect for unplugging. We loved exploring the abundant land, and the night sky was incredible—we could even see the Milky Way. The yard and fire pit made evenings extra cozy, and our pets enjoyed it just as much as we did. Inside, the wood stove kept us warm and comfortable, and everything worked perfectly. The cabin has a charming, eco-friendly feel with cool history and plenty of books to browse. It was exactly the cozy getaway we were hoping for. We’ll definitely be coming back!

The campsite was great. We stayed in the Green Room but walked around the entire property and cannot recommend it enough. It is quiet and feels like you’re right in the forest. The Green Room was big free and had a comfortable bed for 2! We opted to add in wood and unfortunately it was wet but Kira was kind enough to refund us after we were unable to light a fire. Kira was great with communication and questions. This is the perfect site to go enjoy the vineyards of Anderson Valley.

Kira has created a lovely little experience in the heart of the Anderson Valley. My wife and I stayed at the Vineyard View tent site and by some stroke of luck we had the entire property to ourselves for the entire long weekend. The amenities are all on point and everything has been thought of. The property is located close to many wineries and restaurants so there are a lot of things to do. If you're van camping you won't be able to park directly at the tent camp site but will park in the common parking area but there is plenty of space and the sites have a good amount of privacy.

Nice view of the stars from the main clearing area! It was super peaceful and perfect spot for tent camping that gave privacy. Loved the sink stations for easy access to handwashing and plenty of space to relax. The weather was very nice with cool roads to help with the hotter summer weather. Located in a great spot where you can feel secluded in nature, but still be within distance to the local towns. Enjoyed being there during the Mendocino Apple Harvest Festival and enjoyed all of the small town festivities that came with it. From the rodeo, to the fair, local eats, church service, car show and parade, and star gazing it was a perfect location for a small getaway to say goodbye to summer. Kira was very accommodating as well and welcoming when it came to arrival and departure times. We're grateful for the leniency of our timeline that allowed for us to explore the local spots.

Going off-grid, watching the fire glow at night, and then curling up in a cozy, comfortable cabin that had everything we needed felt so good. Kira’s spot in the Anderson Valley is beautiful. Conveniently located near Philo(and its amazing Jumbo’s WinWin), cool Apple farms, and plenty of wineries. Lovely Rustic bohemian camp site. We rented all three spots with friends and had a great time together. Things to know: the night sky is amazing, there is a simple outdoor shared kitchen, bathroom is private but without door (it didn’t smell but no door was a surprise to our friends), while there is plenty of seating some of the options have seen better days, we heard coyotes and saw birds and butterflies. We live an hour away and would love to come back to stay again.

Review: Kira was an incredibly accommodating and helpful host, and her property was truly amazing. The setting provided a genuine camping experience, complete with a true outhouse and a charming forest shower—easy to use and refreshing, even if the water pressure wasn’t very strong. The outdoor kitchen was handy and included some useful cooking tools. We stayed with our rooftop tent and were the only campers that night, which made it peaceful and quiet, aside from the occasional sound of neighbors driving in and out. One thing to note: the path to the property is steep and unpaved. It wasn’t a problem during our stay, but it could be challenging in wet weather, so future guests may want to keep that in mind. Overall, we had a great stay and appreciated the unique, rustic experience.
