Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. Our products are available for purchase, with or without a tasting. We recommend you bring cash if you are interested. We also take Venmo!
GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

Nopalito Farm has been in operation since late 2014, but the property itself has been a working farm for over 50 years. Lemons and avocados were the primary crops from the 70’s through the 00’s, and are still prominent throughout our 15 acres. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. Our products are available for purchase, with or without a tasting. We recommend you bring cash if you are interested. We also take Venmo!
GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

Beautiful spot, well maintained, and great amenities. Kitchen was practically professional grade and really did have everything you could want/need. Lots of hot water in bathrooms (which was great in December). Hilltop yurt was spacious and clean and the tempurpedic mattresses and down comforter were perfect on those cold rainy days. And the fact it was set on a covered platform really protected us from the worst of the wind and rain.

We absolutely loved staying at Campo Napolito. We stayed in the Eureka Casita which is very nice, spacious, and has a lovely minimal interior. The front porch and fire pit out front are amazing. We could have sat out there with our dogs for days. A big star of this property is the kitchen. It is very well equipped with just about anything you could ask for. When we were there, it really felt like a community with everyone gathering in the kitchen and easily sharing the space to cook at the same time. The communal seating areas are also very well done.
Jacob was an incredible host and we had a great time talking with him about his property and would love to visit again.

The table at the site was a 4-top rather than a traditional picnic table. There was also a little loveseat by the fire pit which was nice. The bathrooms with flushing toilets were close enough (~3 minute walk). The camp store was well-stocked!

Peaceful rock site was perfect for our group of 8. We got cloudy skies unfortunately and we'd love to come back again to see sunset and stars! We enjoyed seeing the goats and the alpaca. My partner, Pyro (dog), and myself had a great stay at Jacob's property. We arrived a bit later in the evening due to heavy traffic and it was so nice to get out of the city and just relax. The kitchen area was a great spot to socialize with Jacob and his partner and a couple other guests. The setup is pretty neat and offers privacy from other hip camping guests and has some great views. We stayed in the tent and the beds and bedding were both very comfortable. The nice hot outdoor shower was a bonus to have and Gurtie (farm dog) was also a sweety.

It was a great experience, the view was very nice. I only wish the trees weren’t blocking it as much. Also the dirt road up there is very tight and narrow. It’d be a good idea to have a vehicle with higher ground clearance and good traction on tires. I aired down my tires on the way down and it was way smoother. But I would recommend, Vicki was very nice and welcoming. Only regret is I didn’t get to meet the pig up close.

I had a great time at hideout Mountain. The airstream was well equipped and I had everything I needed to cook, relax, and stay warm. The Outlook near the site is gorgeous, and I spent most of my mornings looking at the view. Also enjoyed Josie’s hideout saloon and found the service to be really friendly and the vibe to be really nice. Live music was a great touch.
