Abundant organic fruit free for the picking includes blueberries, blackberries, thimbleberries, kiwis, plums, pears and apples depending on the time of year (typically June through November) and we usually have fresh duck and chicken eggs, veggies, and culinary herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage, lavender etc.) to share from our garden, which is a work in progress, like many things! You're welcome to hang out by the very private creek for morning coffee or afternoon picnics and great bird and wildlife watching--if you're lucky you might even get to see river otters fishing and playing in the creek! You might want to bring water shoes or rain boots if you'd like to wade across the creek and explore the beautiful, serene 60 acre private nature preserve that borders our property. We have a young son and you'll often find us working and playing in the garden, creek, or around the property during the days

What a wonderful stay! Wendy and John (and Louie the dog!) are warm, generous hosts! Our Tucked Away camping spot was just right as we made our way up the coast. It was a delight to go to sleep with the sounds of the ocean and wake to birds singing and cattle lowing. Shower was warm with excellent water pressure. Definitely recommend adding on Wendy’s delicious soup! Stop looking at your options! This is the one!

We were so glad we booked two nights at Wendy and John Farm! The setting was gorgeous, peaceful and pleasant. Wendy and John were great hosts - kind, accommodating and helpful. The sites are well spaced out, offering privacy, and the property is beautiful making it a tranquil setting. Being less than a mile from the beach the weather was perfect! It was also nice to find above standard bathroom facilities in two flushing restrooms. Highly recommend the dinner and dessert that are offered. We did both our first night and it was so nice to have that waiting for us after a day of travel and then set up. Wendy put together two fabulous dishes for us, going above and beyond what we expected. My only regret about this place is that it’s so far from home. Charmingly rustic and tucked away in a peaceful spot, Wuss Camp was exactly what I needed on my trip. The site was quiet and spacious, and provided a relaxing place to stay after a long day on the road. Wendy was a magnificent host — and even came out to greet me and my dog despite our late arrival. Don’t miss the add-on options either. I ordered the Desperado and couldn’t have been happier. This site is perfect for anyone seeking unplugged relaxation paired with thoughtful, friendly hospitality.

Where to go

Around Eureka

Near Eureka, the Samoa Boat Ramp County Park offers tent and RV camping and access to Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean, the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and Samoa Dunes Recreation Area. Several private marina and RV parks also offer access to Humboldt Bay and amenities like full hookups for RVs. Head north past Arcata to go clamming on a long stretch of beach Clam Beach County Park, and stay overnight at a tent site or in the parking lot for RVs.

North

Head north to explore the town of Trinidad, and stay in a tent, RV, or cabin at a private RV park or campground nearby. Further north, several state parks offer tent sites and RV sites along the coast, while RV sites with amenities can be found along the Klamath River at private RV parks. The Redwood National Park and state parks offer four developed campgrounds, and hike-in options for those looking to explore further. Additional options can be found in the Six Rivers National Forest.

South

South of Eureka is Humboldt Redwoods State Park, with the Avenue of Giants, hundreds of miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails, and three campgrounds. Explore redwoods and the Eel River, and stay overnight at Richardson Grove State Park. To escape the crowds, head to the Lost Coast and the King Range National Conservation Area, which offers several remote camps.

When to go

Summers are the most popular time for visiting Eureka, and offers the best weather for outdoor activities. Summer is also the best time for salmon fishing in the area. Area campgrounds will fill up early and should be reserved in advance where possible. Look for migrating birds in fall and spring. The popular Kinetic Grand Championship is held in May, while the Eureka Street Art Festival is held in August.
