Wondernut Farm is an upstart, entirely off grid, working farm-stead being built from the ground up. We breed milking goats and sheep, heritage pigs, and are in the process of converting to a grade A dairy and creamery! We use organic practices, management intensive rotational grazing, and dryland pasture management. We sell our animals locally so that others can have their own milking and meat animals. Our 110 year old hay barn and the roof of the former lumber mill were all we had to work with in getting off the ground.

Our location is stunning and historic, and the beauty of the wild, natural landscape is powerful, yet offers easy access to both Yosemite Valley and the San Francisco Bay area. The area features excellent road and mountain biking in the immediate vicinity, vast access to hiking and backpacking trails, a huge variety of rock climbing in the area, the best whitewater rafting in California on the Tuolumne River, with some tasty places to eat or drink coffee in the nearby town of Groveland, just 10 minutes away.
Accommodations at the farm are certainly rustic, and private but not secluded, with occasionally heavily project-exploded shared kitchen and living space, showers, and airy flush toilets.
Do be advised that animals are pooping, hammers are hammering, sometimes we need to look into a health or animal injury related issue. Sometimes there is blood in an animal birth or slaughter, and our working guardian dogs have been known to be noisy some nights. Water and electricity are both very limited (though we reuse all our water), waste must be carefully sorted into a number of different categories, and there is always evidence of ump-teen projects unfolding at once. The most difficult condition during much of the summer are nuisance flies, which are always gone at night. We have almost no mosquitoes or ticks.
Depending on the exact situation and time of year, guests may have the opportunities to snuggle with baby animals and run our herd to or from pasture, and maybe even get their hands dirty picking veggies in the garden.

Guests have access to the whole house as well as Pine Mountain Lake amenities. There is a $44 fee per car to enter the gate. This gives you access to the amenities for the length of your stay up to 7 days.
Dogs are limited to 3. We do not allow Rottweilers, Dobermans, pit bulls, chows, and wolf breeds. Also any dog mixed with these breeds are not permitted. Dogs are not allowed on the beach at Pine Mountain Lake, they must be on a leash at all times. Please do not leave in the home unattended without a crate.

Close to downtown Twain Harte and all that it has to offer - summer music outdoors, restaurants, and shops. It is a short drive to Pinecrest Lake and Dodge Ridge. Come stay!
The space
This house has a primary bedroom with a king bed and a sleeper sofa/ futon (58" long). The second bedroom is semi-private (no door), but since it is across the house from the master, there is some privacy in that way. It has twin trundle beds and is near the second bathroom and right off the kitchen.
There's a large back deck for your enjoyment to take in the view of trees and eat outside under the shade umbrella, or to grill on the gas grill.
There are stairs to get down to the house, but once inside it is single level.
There’s Roku TV and a sound system that you can plug your phone into that’s very loud and good!
There is a new AC mini-split unit in the living room! Note: no AC in bedrooms

Other things to note
Please note there are stairs to get down to the house, in case you have mobility issues, but there are railings to hold onto. Once inside, there are no stairs!
Update: Newly installed AC in living room! In the summertime, this little cabin gets hot even with the evaporative cooler and fans. Hopefully, you are out frolicking during those hours, but please be prepared for the afternoon hours to be very warm. We recently purchased a portable evaporative cooler. You just need to add water to it and you can move it around to wherever you need to cool down.
Please note that the second bedroom is semi-private, so maybe more suited to kids or youth - though it is on the other side of the house from the primary bedroom which is private.

Group trip
We had 2 adults and 5 teens stay at Jeremy's, and we all had an amazing time! My husband and I stayed in the cute cabin (air conditioning worked great!) and the kids pitched tents. The view is incredible, and the walk down and back from the reservoir was a good workout. The kids had such a fun time on the water, and we really enjoyed our stay.
Jeremy is so nice, and an absolutely fabulous host. He came by a number of times to check and make sure we had everything we need, and he even delivered a dozen fresh eggs our second morning. What a treat! It was nice having the BBQ and the fire pit, and he had an extra tank of propane when we ran out.
I am a bit of a nervous driver, and Jeremy even offered to drive my truck back up the road (and I ended up doing it and being perfectly fine).
Last, he had great recommendations for restaurants and winetasting nearby. All in all a great trip! Yay!

With kids
We had a wonderful experience! The treehouse with its beautiful lake view was a highlight — we loved waking up to that scenery. The hike down to the lake quite a trek on a hot day but totally worth it, and having a shower near the treehouse made it so convenient.
Kayaking on the lake was great, and swimming in the cool, clean water on a hot day was refreshing — the kids loved it! We also loved cooking on the camp stove and enjoying a picnic dinner near the treehouse.
The sleeping arrangements were comfortable and worked perfectly for our family of 4. Jeremy was very responsive, warm, and helpful throughout our stay.
We would absolutely recommend this place to any family looking for a unique outdoor getaway. We will definitely be back! 🌅🛶

Weekend Trip to The Painted Lake
Clean this up
We have a peaceful stay at the super view cabin. There are horses , goats, sheep and chickens hanging out on the property. Lots of room to hike and explore. It’s backed up on blm . We kayaked, cooked eggs frszh from the coop and hung out on the deck of the cabin watching the stunning view. Wish we stayed more than one night! We will be back.

They are such sweet people. It's fun to see a working farm and the sheep. The facilities, while modest, are pleasing in their design, clean and look new. Be prepared for a long hike if you get the Bridge. It's worth it for a true nature experience.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Falls Yosemite Camp
We loved our stay! This spot was nicely private, had AC/heating, plenty of outlets, well furnished, the view of the falls was better than we expected, and the hosts were very helpful and kind! Although access to a shower/toilet was a HUGE plus, it was not the easiest to access from this cabin spot. It required walking either a steep trail or down the long winding driveway. We ended up driving the car to it most times. Only thing that could have made it better was dedicated drinking water access! We weren’t sure if the hose or bathroom sink were good for drinking, and ran out quickly so bring extra if you don’t have a filter or don’t want to go back into town. We also could not get the door to properly lock shut heads up. Overall, such a cool spot!

2 nights at The Painted Lake
This place was kinda magical. I woke up and collected fresh eggs for breakfast, laid in a bunch of hammocks with gorgeous views and sat on the deck looking at the lake. It’s a good cross between rustic camping and glamping. The couch is great to have to relax and be comfortable at night, but you still get the minimalism of camping with the kitchen and shower outside. The kitchen actually had a nice gas griddle/bbq which made it easy to cook.

We had a great time using our Tiny Home in the Woods as a home base for Yosemite. Mac was a great host and the site had everything we could need for a roughing it without roughing it experience. Bunks were comfy and had microwave, mini fridge and heating/cooling.

We had such a great stay here and would absolutely come back. The standout for me was the bed, it was incredibly comfortable, honestly one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had while traveling. After long days exploring, it felt like sinking into a cloud.
Eve and Matt were amazing hosts. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel genuinely welcome, friendly, helpful, and clearly passionate about creating a great experience for their guests. It really sets the tone for the whole stay.
The location is also a huge plus. It’s close enough to Yosemite National Park to make day trips easy, but far enough away to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the crowds. It worked perfectly as a home base for exploring the area.
Overall, this place strikes that rare balance between comfort and nature. If you’re looking for a relaxing, welcoming spot near Yosemite with a seriously comfortable bed, this is it.

Weekend Trip to The Painted Lake
We had THE MOST amazing stay at The Painted lake cabin. Like every single review here, this place is so inviting and is full of warmth. The animals, the lake and the hosts themselves make the overall experience so worth it. Bathrooms were clean and the hot showers were functional.
We are a big fan of Painted Lake and will 100% recommend it. We will definitely go again :)

Our group had a pleasure in staying at this site. The site was very well maintained and well equipped. Our group really enjoyed the site especially it's off leash friendly and super dog friendly. Our fur babies really enjoyed the swim in the river and running around the site. We will definitely be back again very soon.

We spent a week at Gold wall Ranch.It was the perfect location for access to the Gold wall for climbing. It was a quick walk from the top to climbing area.Teddy Bear cabin was a nice retreat to come home to. Very quiet with lots of wildlife.We enjoyed our stay.Thanks for having us.

The remote, rustic feel of the grounds combined with the luxury of a handcrafted bungalow was truly unique. The panorama of the lake through mature oak trees was magical. The kayaks and privacy of the lake made this a one of a kind opportunity. We highly recommend this experience to all who enjoy the unkempt wild of nature, glamping at it's finest, and are comfortable with moderate physical activity. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower feature.

A wonderful, welcoming, space. The little Wilderness Bridge Cabin was very cozy— the bedding had that nostalgic smell like my grandparents home. Kind of need to pole vault yourself up on to the bed but it’s worth it. Views are pristine and we even caught a powerful lightning and thunderstorm perfectly framed by the large windows overlooking the gulch.
The dogs rustle around outside below the cabin at night as your furry guardians, so don’t worry, it’s not a mountain lion looking to eat you or your treats. You’ll get used to the noises.
The bathrooms and showers are super neat and that cedar smell is still very strong. Poo with a view, check!
The shared kitchen space has everything you need for fun food creations and groovy people to boot sharing the space after a fun days work on the homestead. Well water on property is delicious!
40 minutes from Yosemite entrance. Nice market in Groveland, Mar-Val and a cool coffee/gardening place in town also, Mountain Sage.
Would definitely return to pet all the dogs. Matt, Eve and the crew made us feel very at home!

Absolutely loved our stay! I have a 13 inch beagle and I thought I would have to tether her the entire stay because the description says it is not fenced. Come to my surprise, it was able to be enclosed that my pup couldn’t find a way out. If she were any smaller she probably would have been able to get through the metal fence. It was so nice being able to let her roam freely. We loved being in sync with the sun and the moon and stargazing from the hot tub! It was perfect for what we were looking for! The neighborhood is lovely, there is even a small farm stand down the street where we were able to purchase some local eggs.

We loved staying at Wondernut Farm!! Our cabin was perfect and had everything we could need, and the view from inside was gorgeous...awesome for catching moonlight views at bedtime and seeing the sun rise over the farm. The resident animals (including the most epic friendly dog crew!!) were all so much fun to be around, and Matt, Eve and the other people there were all lovely, and very welcoming to young children. Our bed was super comfy, and the shower was warm and spacious with a great view. We'll definitely be back next chance we get!
