Shasta View Campsites are part of a former 30,000 acre ranch that was split up into smaller parcels in the 1970's. It is comprised of 5 to 500 acre parcels. All these parcels are homesteads. There are no commercial or industrial areas on the Ranch. In 2005, I started looking for land in the Shasta area after falling in love with the Mountain and it's surrounding lakes. I have always known exactly what the land I would spend time on would look like. One day, in 2006, I was driving on the Hammond Ranch, again hoping I would find that place. I was driving my van, with my 2 kids and some of our friends, through a heavily wooded area. I made a left turn down a dusty dirt road and Eureka! I had found IT. I was at the top of a 60 acre meadow that had a full unobstructed view of Mt. Shasta, encircled by lenticular clouds. I told a friend of mine, who was at the time a realtor in the Shasta area, that I had found a piece of land that looks perfect to me. If, that is, it also had a creek on it. She did some searching around and found out that the land that is now Shasta View was in fact for sale. And, it had a creek on it. And it was comprised of some acreage in the meadow and some in the trees. This was everything I had wanted. I bought the land within the next 2 weeks. After camping on the land a few times, I started to understand where the best sites would be to build some structures. Because the meadow always has a certain amount of moisture to the ground, it is not suitable for building a structure. The good thing about that, is that nobody who owns land in that meadow will ever build there. We will only be looking at Mt. Shasta from that meadow. Never a building. The platform I built in the meadow offers on a chance to sleep under the stars. Billions of them. My property is only one of two that have old, large Cedar and Pine trees on it. It made perfect sense that I would be building a small house in those trees. While camping on this land, you will find exquisite beauty and solitude. Within 30 minutes, you will find Lake Siskiyou and Castle Lake for some of the finest swimming around. If you fish, the McCloud and the Sacramento rivers offer some of the best trout fishing in the state. There are two “Blue Ribbon” designated streams. The first is Upper Sacramento River. It starts as a trickle from the melting snows of Mt Shasta and by the time it reaches the area around the town of Dunsmuir which is just south of Shasta City, it is a true “Blue Ribbon” designated trout stream. The place to find all the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area is at the Ted Fay Fly Fishing shop in Dunsmuir. The second “Blue Ribbon” trout fishing is on the McCloud River. Historically some of the best trout fishing to be found. I have fished both these streams and always caught fish. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEDDING IF YOU'LL BE SLEEPING IN THE TREEHOUSE. What a beautiful and cozy spot!! Kit was very accommodating and friendly. The cabin was warm, the fire pit was perfect. I was just bummed the outside bathtub wasn't functional at that time, but all in all a great spot and I highly recommend.

Wow! What a wonderful place, and maybe one of my favorite HipCamps I have stayed at. When you book here, you aren't just booking a place to sleep, it is a whole experience! The owner and staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I was really impressed by the property and its history, especially their work restoring wetlands and promoting forest diversity, and I learned a lot during my stay. I also especially loved meeting the goats and picking fresh produce from their U-Pick farm. They even offer goat hikes, which I didn’t get to try this time, but I’m already planning my next visit just for that! The bed was super comfortable, and the community kitchen was impressively well-equipped. They truly thought of everything—you just need to show up and enjoy!

Beautiful land with obviously great views. The treehouse is surrounded by, well . . . trees, with a door and porch looking out onto a meadow. Sitting on the porch with some coffee in the morning was perfect. Much of the road back to the property is flat gravel but the last part is a really rocky, bumpy road. Drive slowly and carefully and reconsider any vehicle with minimal clearance.

Weekend Trip to ShastaView

This was my second time staying at Shasta View and it is such a special place! Very comfortable, and beautiful spots to camp. It is an extremely short walk to the meadow where the mountain is (1 minute), and it is such an incredible view. Plenty of shade in over 90 degree weather for us. The camp kitchen is well equipped and spacious - we loved the sinks for dishwashing. The stream water was clean, cool and refreshing on hot days as well. Feels like you are pretty removed from civilization but town is only 20 minutes away and it is a maximum of 35 minutes to all main attractions around Shasta. Directions were a bit confusing but we all found it and had a great group trip!

2 nights at Trailer Lane Campground

Sugar Shasta was so much fun to stay in. The decor was really cool and the camper was very clean. It came equipped with everything I needed and I slept well and felt safe (traveling solo). The bathrooms were very clean and the camper came with travel size toiletries which I thought was a really nice touch. They have chickens and really friendly goats along with a slew of other birds that were fun to visit with and there's a really wonderful view of Mount Shasta if you go to the back of the campground and follow the road past the chicken coops up the hill. A few things you may consider for your stay: I recommend ear plugs as this particular unit is right near a fairly busy road. With the earplugs, I slept very well. There isn't much light so if you are a night time reader, bring a reading light. Karen and Jay are very nice and accommodating. I loved staying here! The camper was cozy and charming. The land and the view was beautiful. Sarah was welcoming and incredibly kind. I did not have opportunity to walk the property, but this was a great location to stay. Ashland is just a few minutes away if you want to go into town and it's close enough to the highway to go out and explore the region, as I did.

2 nights at Gorgeous Lakeside Lodgings + Sauna

When you walk in you will say “Wow!” This spacious ‘barn’ has been lovingly renovated and decorated for a very comfortable and relaxing get away. The kitchen is fabulous, enjoyed preparing our food. Loved the polished concrete floors on bare feet. Beautiful big bathroom. Fun games, interesting books, a piano! My friend really enjoyed a sauna one evening and big tub soak the next. I was too tired after full days of sun wind and water. Howard Prairie Lake was pretty murky (algae bloom?) when we SUP’d across so decided best to not swim there, but still really enjoyed the quiet lake (literally no one else there except a far away boat), and enjoyed evening and morning walks. Went to Lake of the Woods, 30 min drive, for a nice swim. And we liked going back to our quiet luxurious cabin! We were 3 friends. The big bedroom downstairs is the nicest. The upstairs open plan area would be best for a family with kids, or close friends. Would be a beautiful spot in winter for cross-country skiing. And great place for dogs.

Weekend Trip to Owl Creek Cabin Mountain Getaway

Kit’s cabin was well put together. It is tight quarters for some but we are a family of four adults (parents and children) so my daughter and I shared the loft while my husband and son shared the sofa bed. Our family travels a lot And being cozy with our family is something we are used to and just use that as extra time to talk about everything. If you think your family would do well, you will be comfortable. If you have someone who doesn’t share space well or sprawls stuff everywhere, you may want to limit who comes but still go because the cabin is great. I was really nervous about sleeping in the loft as an average sized human during a heat wave. Thankfully the mattress was great, the trees keep the place shaded, the evening air was cool even on the hot days, and there was a portable fan. Everything we needed was available and my favorite part was having a toilet and good shower! We didn’t use the outdoor tub but Kit showed us how it works, it looked really clean and the water warmed up very fast during the demonstration. It would be a refreshing and wonderful experience that I plan to try during the next visit. Thank you again!
