Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

For those who are coming to Temecula for horse shows, we also have a large barn with bedded stalls and turnouts (for an additional fee). There are designated horse trails right outside our gates which will even take you to Galway Downs and California Ranch Company. If you're into golf, you can enjoy Temecula's 7 PGA golf courses or Pechanga Casino which are also within a short driving distance to the farm. If horses or golf isn't your thing, you can visit Temecula Valley wineries which are all ~ 1/2-3.8 miles of the cottage gates. The wineries are not within walking distance of each other, UBER is only too happy to come here and pick you up! If you're not interested in any activities and simply want a "staycation," you can hang out here where you're welcomed to walk around the farm and interact with the animals. Villa Macala is 15 minutes from Diamond Valley Lake where you can enjoy a wildflower trail, fishing or mountain bike trails, museum and water park. It is 20-30 minutes to Pachea Trail and Simpson Park where you can enjoy more great hiking and mountain bike trails. It is also a 30-minute drive to Temecula Wine Country.
We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. Our products are available for purchase, with or without a tasting. We recommend you bring cash if you are interested. We also take Venmo!
GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

Our space is private and just off the beaten path, with plenty of parking.
One of our favorite features of this trailer layout is the door to the kids room, and the double-doors to the master bedroom on the opposite end of the trailer. This allows for space to plan the next day's adventures, get some remote work done, catch up on your favorite shows, and be together glamping while also having a little space apart from the kids :) Strong wifi available for use,
Bunk room is equipped with dual bunk beds (a total of 4 twins). In addition, the couch folds out and the dinette folds down, revealing two additional full-sized sleeping options. Stocked with everything and the kitchen sink, glamping has never been so easy! Fully outfitted kitchen with dishes, silverware, kitchen utensils, cookware, serving bowls, French press and pour over coffee maker (and filters), linens for kitchen, bathroom, and bedding (please specify # of beds being used). The stovetop, microwave and oven make meals a cinch, though restaurant options abound. Kitchen boasts a large sink and regular faucet to make life easier. Pantry and storage throughout ensure you’ll have room to make yourself at home. Has full slide-out, awning, indoor and outdoor speakers, Bluetooth music setup, tv, dvd (and selection of DVDs), games and cards, small camp bbq (with 2 small propane cannisters), and more.

Inside, you won’t believe you’re in a camper. Renovated in 2019 this Comfy+Cozy Camper is exactly that. The sleeping areas have blackout blinds as well as the kitchen window. Cozy up in the queen bed on a 3” mattress topper next to double sconces; perfect for a night read, or cuddle up and watch some TV.
The bunkroom has its own door for privacy, separate sitting area with table, sleeps 3 with a 200lb max weight limit for both top bunks. Inside the bunkroom I've provided fun coloring books with colored pencils, books and walki talkies. If you need a pack-n-play, please let me know! This space is perfect size for kids 10 and under, though adults have squeezed in!

*Guests arriving after dark: Twin Oaks Valley road is not well lit (due to no street lights). Proceed slowly with headlights on. Address is posted at the entrance. *Smoke detector - I will be notified if there is smoking inside the townhome ($200 fine) *Minut – sound detection at high decibels – I will be notified at 85 decibels during regular hours and over 70 decibels during quiet hours. If it gets very loud you will be notified too. We cannot hear what is being said, just measured sound decibels.

This 1968 Shasta Camper, located in a small garden within an urban neighborhood, sleeps up to four people, with additional space to set up tents if desired. Street parking only. Pay attention to posted restriction signs and do not park in business or residential lots. The driveway can be made available at a cost of $10 per night (keep in mind the driveway is located at the front of the property and is a short walk away from the entrance to the camper).
Yard is fenced-in completely but if your pet is an escape artist there are some very small openings to be aware of when letting them off-leash.

Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

The stovetop, microwave and oven make meals a cinch, though restaurant options abound. Kitchen boasts a large sink and regular faucet to make life easier. Pantry and storage throughout ensure you’ll have room to make yourself at home. Has full slide-out, awning, indoor and outdoor speakers, Bluetooth music setup, tv, dvd (and selection of DVDs), games and cards, small camp bbq (with 2 small propane cannisters), and more.

This Farmhouse Chic on wheels remodel will give you the true feeling of Glamping. Nestled on your own fenced in 8,000 sq. ft. spacious lot with a private, gated entrance sits the Comfy+Cozy Camper.
Tucked off the road, you’ll enter through a charming white ranch fence. Enjoy the privacy of keeping your area secluded. If you’re a young family, couples or solo you’ll enjoy this space; picnic table, outdoor grill, cornhole game and a wood burning fire pit; perfect for roasting s’mores or enjoying a drink.
Children have space to run & play; using their imagination, climbing trees, playing with provided walkie talkies & and family friendly games — all in the freedom of your 8,000+ sq. ft. space!
Inside, you won’t believe you’re in a camper. Renovated in 2019 this Comfy+Cozy Camper is exactly that. The sleeping areas have blackout blinds as well as the kitchen window. Cozy up in the queen bed on a 3” mattress topper next to double sconces; perfect for a night read, or cuddle up and watch some TV.
The bunkroom has its own door for privacy, separate sitting area with table, sleeps 3 with a 200lb max weight limit for both top bunks. Inside the bunkroom I've provided fun coloring books with colored pencils, books and walki talkies. If you need a pack-n-play, please let me know! This space is perfect size for kids 10 and under, though adults have squeezed in!
Nearby the Camper sits our chicken coop, each stay you’ll be provided a fresh eggs & you’re welcome to grab more from the coop and say hi!
Also, feel free to pick yummy oranges & avocados during season!
We’re close to Bonsall shopping center which has some of our favorite restaurants; Z cafe, Fresco Grill, Peking Wok, Tekila Cocina & Village Pizza.
If you head into town there is amazing BBQ and Mexican restaurants!
Close to fun trails; Los Jilgueros, Santa Margarita & Monserate Mountain.
Or kickback at the local movie theater.
All of my recommendations for food+drinks+things to do have been put together in the Comfy+Cozy Welcome Book, which I will send to you upon arrival and a hard copy is placed in property.

Charming rural neighborhood surrounded by gorgeous mountain views and wine country. A serene and tranquil environment perfect for relaxation with its rolling hills, lush valleys and picturesque landscape. Take in the beautiful star studded night sky while lounging in our hot tub with a glass of wine. Golfing is available just down the street and neighboring wineries are a very short drive. Beautiful hiking trails to explore here. Centrally located near cities and attractions like Lego land, Sea World and Disneyland too!
Things to note:
*Pets are welcome. Pet fee is $50 per night per pet
*No outside fires - a propane BBQ and fire pit are supplied for guests enjoyment.
*Children are welcome but this is not a good fit for infants. No baby amenities provided
*Guests will be given a security keypad code that must be entered in order to gain access to the driveway that leads to the left towards your private tiny home on the hill. Private entry and parking for 2!
*Guests will have exclusive full access to the 1 bedroom home, expansive deck with outdoor eating area, BBQ, fire pit, hammock, and jacuzzi.
*We take the approach of being hands off on the property unless needed, so do not plan to visit with us in person during your stay (unless there is an issue that needs to be addressed) - we want you to feel like you have the home all to yourself!
*NO PARTIES/ EVENTS/ GATHERINGS. MAX OCCUPANCY observed on property. Limit of 2 guests MAX. Please do not book this property if you are looking to party as you will be asked to leave with no refund.
*There is plenty of parking along our spacious unpaved driveway leading up to the home and it is secured by our private security gate.
*Quiet time is 10pm- 7am (music off, voices down)
*Please do not disturb neighbors *Bringing pets? There is an additional fee of $50/night per pet. If you choose the option on Hipcamp for a pet and it exceeds that amount we will send you an invoice post-booking for the remaining balance. *Please notify me prior to arrival (up to 2 pets) — over 25lbs requires $200 pet deposit
*Also, this property is not fenced and is surrounded by wildlife (ie. coyotes, rattlesnakes, etc). Please take precautions with your pet and never leave them unattended outside. Please see our welcome guide inside the property for tips on wildlife encounters. Must curb your pet, any pet damages will be charged to renter.

*Regularly scheduled check-in time is 4pm.

*Docusign Rental agreement must be signed for insurance reasons in order to gain access to the property.
* Fire Pit: Feel free to cozy up around our fire pit, but remember to do so with caution, especially when a child is present—safety first! Additionally, please be mindful that our fire pit's propane usage is monitored. Guests may incur charges for any loss of propane if the fire pit is left unattended for extended periods. *The Den resort fee covers spa maintenance, cleanings, and propane for fire pit use. If there is ever an issue with the spa or fire pit we can refund you this $35 spa & fire pit resort fee. Pets are not allowed in the hot tub.
*Guests arriving after dark: Twin Oaks Valley road is not well lit (due to no street lights). Proceed slowly with headlights on. Address is posted at the entrance. *Smoke detector - I will be notified if there is smoking inside the townhome ($200 fine) *Minut – sound detection at high decibels – I will be notified at 85 decibels during regular hours and over 70 decibels during quiet hours. If it gets very loud you will be notified too. We cannot hear what is being said, just measured sound decibels.
*Exterior Cameras- Security gate, driveway and front door- audio & visual recordings activated by motion sensor and in place for safety measures.
*Special note after the COVID-19 Crisis: Protecting each other’s health and safety is very important to us. We are doing our part in keeping our vacation rental as safe as possible to prevent any spread of any disease/illness. With the current concern over the coronavirus, we have taken further precautions. We have always made sure each room is clean and safe for the next guest and we will continue to do so. This 1968 Shasta Camper, located in a small garden within an urban neighborhood, sleeps up to four people, with additional space to set up tents if desired. It has a few amenities—some more rustic than others—including AC, refrigerator and freezer, stovetop (oven does not work), sinks, shower, internet, and coffee maker.
Located just ten minutes from the Port of Long Beach and the Port of San Pedro, it’s a great launch point for cruise-goers. With swimming beaches only twenty minutes away, it’s an ideal option for a low-cost vacation.
Help yourself to the freshest fruits, vegetables, and legumes from the garden, and watch the bees, butterflies, and grasshoppers happily pollinate, creating opportunities for new growth.
The property is securely locked, and the entrance is video-monitored for your safety (and ours).
It’s important to note that the camper (not a glamper) is vintage, and the convenience of the urban neighborhood can sometimes come with a variety of neighborhood sounds—though it can also be extremely quiet at times.
Due to the desert climate, ants may accompany the pollinators and enter the camper if food or beverages are left out. The garden is shared with our home, so some privacy may be compromised when we tend to it.
Street parking only. Pay attention to posted restriction signs and do not park in business or residential lots. The driveway can be made available at a cost of $10 per night (keep in mind the driveway is located at the front of the property and is a short walk away from the entrance to the camper).
Yard is fenced-in completely but if your pet is an escape artist there are some very small openings to be aware of when letting them off-leash.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Splitrock’s Hilltop Hideaway. We had the whole area to ourselves and stayed on the upper level which gave way to spectacular views of the entire valley. We had an unexpected treat as a whole tribe of goats came up and hung out with us for a while and one of their sweet dogs. Looking forward to going back in the summer and would highly recommend.

We loved everything about it. The facilities are really well kept, and the campsites are so far away from each other that it feels you are alone... lots of interesting hiking and let's not forget the stars of this trip, baby goats! Oh my they were adorable. Everyone is very friendly therevas well. 10/10 super recommended.

Wonderful stay! Our host Jason was absolutely lovely. Very attentive. The grounds were gorgeous. We were able to let our dog off leash to roam around. They had goats and chickens, a wonderful gift basket and hiking right off the property. It was truly a beautiful and wonderful time -so relaxing we will be back!

This is the perfect place for a San Diego getaway! It’s such a gorgeous property and A Frame to stay in. We had an awesome weekend hanging out and reading with the side open and making pizzas in the wood fired oven in the evening. Jacob and his girlfriend were super friendly and helpful, and the fruit we bought with passion fruits and kumquats is the best we’ve had anywhere. Camp dog Gertie is also sweet as can be and followed us around as we walked through the flowers. Would reccomend 11/10 and will definitely be back!

Was a great campground with a beautiful views of the Fallbrook area. Had a good time tent camping with a nice fire pit along it. Found that the local goats were so cute and the peace of being in the great outdoors was just what was needed to escape the hustle and bustle of city life!

We stayed two nights at Tabernacle and loved it! Very private, beautiful views, cool site, huge rocks and places to explore. Loved the goats that came through our site, though they tried to climb on our table as we were eating breakfast. The farm itself is fun and peaceful, we also did the baby goats experience and the kids loved it!

Weekend Trip to Campo Nopalito
Our time at Nopalito Farm was seriously awesome - Jacob & his partner were incredibly hospitable, the farm was beautiful, and our A-frame was super cute and clean. We got to cook in the wood fire pizza oven which was a blast. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need. We’ll definitely be coming back!

The restrooms at this campground were very clean, and we were able to stay very comfortably. I went with my son, and we felt very safe the entire time. We enjoyed walking around and checking out the different sites, and my son especially loved interacting with the goats. He had such a great time. It was a beautiful place, and we would definitely love to come back again.

If youre looking for a great camping deal near SD, this is only an hour away drive. Horizon is one of the best spots! We loved the views, especially on flatrock during sun set. The whole farm is huge and beautiful. Can’t miss the observation view deck and take a picture on the rock (front of deck). The goats were friendly, except the white big one lol it was SUPER friendly it follows you when you start petting him. Toilet and showers are spot on clean. Only draw back I can think of is the distance from our spot to the toilet and potable water. It was at least 3-5 minutes walk, so bring your own portable toilet for over nighters. We’ll be back soon!

We had an absolutely beautiful time here. My boys, husband and I enjoyed this. Our dogs were happy wondering around. The ambience is calm and the space amazing. The tent and beds were clean. We brought our little camp stove but they have a communal kitchen, bathrooms and lounge area. We are def. coming back again.

This is a very fun campsite! Lots and lots of space and the platform is great flat surface for a tent and the easy turf makes it extra nice. There’s also a second flat space included in the site for a second tent setup if you want one. There are loads of goats up on the higher levels so you’ll see them if you walk or drive through the camp.
A few things to keep in mind; for the Jurassic site, the bathroom is quite a ways from your site. Fine to hike to or drive to during the day, but if you get up in the middle of the night to go, it may be an issue. Also as great as it was to have a fire pit nestled in to the rocks, the rocks are home to some critters 😅 which we discovered once it got dark and the nocturnal animals start getting active. Totally comes with the territory of camping, but just be aware.
All in all a great place; eager to check out some of the other sites. It’s a beautiful little community they’ve got there. Very cool.

We really enjoyed camping at the Hilltop Hideout spot - the views were beautiful and the site feels very private. There’s a water spigot right at the site, along with a firepit, table, chairs, and plenty of space for a larger group (we were just two people and a dog). My wife loved playing with the baby goats, and our dog had a great time checking out all the farm animals. The owner’s dogs were friendly and chill - they stopped by once to say hello. The camp store was also pretty convenient.
We did run into a small hiccup at arrival, as another camper was already set up at our site, which meant waiting while things got sorted out and setting up in the dark. The owner came quickly and resolved it, but it was a bit of a scramble for everyone involved. We also had some early-morning 6am noise from kids hanging around our campsite; not the owner’s fault, but clearer communication of quiet hours might help future guests. Overall though, we had a great stay and would recommend it.

Some of the nicer sites were gorgeous. The drive up was a bit intense on a winding cliff road.
Make sure you know what site you’re going to. I tired to ask but when I got there the signage was unclear. They made me take down my set up after dark and move to a different site, even though I followed the Oak Grove sign. The host said “sorry you have to move your shit” and left after giving me incorrect directions to the other site.
I am a female solo traveling and could not see to set up my tent and everything again in the dark so had to get a motel.
When I requested a refund since I didn’t even stay the night the host accused me of messing up another campers trip and purposefully choosing the expensive site. When it was just an accident because their signage was unclear. Hipcamp refunded me but the hosts refused and sent a very rude text in response to my request.
I wish I had a better experience, it was beautiful there but unfortunately I wasn’t able to stay and woudnt return without booking the more expensive sites or being able to check the whole camp ground to make sure I’m in the right area.

If you only visit one Hipcamp in your life, this should be on the list. This is not a layover stop as you travel up and down southern California, but rather it truly is a destination. Without hesitation the most enjoyable places we have ever experienced using Hipcamp.
We stayed during early February and were glad we had the amazing trees within the communal compound to provide shade. There is history here. You can tell this was a working farm in earlier days. And then Ben and perhaps others have a vision of what the land and amenities is for travelers and he truly has we nomads in mind. It’s just the right amount of conveniences nestled within a beautiful hilltop escape.
We had the central compound all to ourselves. That is for the herd of goats that maintain the landscaping. Quite a treat to enjoy an afternoon watching them graze in the 80° sun.
Ben has done a great job making the roads or trails well groomed for any vehicle and we took numerous dog walks in all different directions.
Adding to the experience is what we considered to be his extremely fair pricing. Not just for Southern California but for everywhere we have visited. We shall return.
