While staying at Red Wing Ranch you will have the opportunity to walk on a section of the original stagecoach road, canoe in our private pond, watch the sunset over the Pacific ocean, and star gaze from what feels like a private planetarium. This is perfect for artists, writers, yogis, and those seeking the tranquility of off grid living. We have 40 acres of land with beautiful hiking in every direction. Our campsites have a fire pit, picnic table, and access to an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen!
The accommodation includes staying in a 850 square foot wooden yurt with bamboo floors. The building has a wooden stove and propane wall heat. We also have a fridge, stove for cooking and propane wall heater inside the yurt. There is a futon that sleeps 2 plus a kids size bed, but please bring sleeping bags or bedding. You can also put up two tents next to the yurt for more sleeping.
We have now added also an attached kitchen and bathroom to the yurt so we have an indoor shower and full kitchen!
There is a detached bathroom with a maintenance free composting toilet and simple outdoor kitchen. You will have access to cooking utensils and cookware, camp stove, and fire pit. There is a solar system so you have access to electricity and wifi.
The drive from Willits is 25 minutes, with only the last 5 minutes on a dirt road. You can do the drive in any car, unless the occasional snowy conditions. There is plenty of parking next to the yurt for easy unpacking.. To access the coast you do have to go back through Willits and use highway 20.

This was our second time here and honestly it was even better than the last. Heidi and Matt are so responsive and sweet and make the experience so wonderful and seamless every time. We had some first time campers with us and even they loved it. This property is just so amazing and perfect for having a beautiful weekend to share with friends in raw nature. I can’t recommend this stay enough! The site and spending time in the river is the absolute best although I HIGHLY recommend checking your tires before summitting the rough terrain and steep hills of the property. We got a little stuck but were able to maneuver our way out from the river. Despite that I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in such a beautiful and serene location. We’ll definitely be back next year too!

We loved tent camping at the Hillside site! It was extremely quiet and private and the views were incredible. The last 20ish minutes of the drive up to the property were on a dirt/gravel road and the Hillside site was doable in a large 4WD but felt like off-roading. The pond wasn’t swimmable but fishing from the canoe they have was so fun. There is no shade at the Hillside site past mid-morning so we’d highly suggest a shade tent or umbrella of some kind. I believe they had a couple umbrellas but there wasn’t a base for one at the Hillside site. Wasps were also an issue when cooking, but that wasn’t surprising this time of year. The hosts were incredibly kind and generous. We learned so much from them and even received recommendations for local spots to visit, eat and swim. There is no spigot or hose for water, just a couple jugs available which ran out when the other family camping finished them off. They weren’t replaced for our second night there and the sink with running water didn’t work the few times we tried to do dishes, but luckily we brought our own water and had enough for the rest of the weekend. Overall, we would definitely recommend for a peaceful weekend and great place to call home for the night after exploring the surrounding towns and nature. It’s clear they put a lot of love and effort into their property and educating the community and are ironing out kinks as they continue to grow the space!

We had a fabulous time at Jack Rabbit ranch. The site was breathtaking and we really had all the privacy we wanted. It was a great spot to just get away. Communication was clear and timely. All wheel or four wheel drive with some ground clearance will make getting to the site much easier. We hope to come back for another stay!

Serene, beautiful dome on a west facing slope in the hills. Had a peaceful stay with my dog. Even though it was hot, Eli took care to provide fans, and it cooled down substantially at night. There’s an adorable full kitchen and clawfoot tub. The views are incredible!

What a lovely place, lovely host, lovely dog-host. Off grid, remote but close enough to the world, and the Dome itself is awesome. I could go on and use more superlatives but it's exactly what you want, just book it. we had our 10 year old, and our 2 dogs, who all truly enjoyed themselves (10 year old unplugged).

My god. What can i say about heidi and matts little slice of heaven that they haven’t already covered. First. The view.. spectacular! The stars. Oh wow. The peace and quiet. Unmatched. We had a couple hickups there. One being my truck had just had a tom of work done and on our third day something happened, truck wouldn’t start. Matt(certified mechanic) was on it. Took him 30 minutes to get her running. Told me what issue was and what to get once i got off the mountain. He said no charge but he SAVED us and for that we took care of him(hopefully matt😂). We will be back again. Just not with a one ton truck with no 4wd. Kudos to Heidi and Matt. Your place is magical.

We had a great relaxing weekend, it was super hot but that didn't change anything with what this place offers. It was very peaceful, great night sky, loved the dog and the chickens. Nice trail on the property. Host Elias is kind and nice person, we had a great conversation and really appreciated his hospitality. We also took a day trip out to Mendocino. Overall great place to disconnect, and enjoy the peaceful nature.

Weekend Trip to EL EL Cool Ranch
Great stay, well off the beaten path. Eli is a warm and gracious host. We loved the peace and quiet of the dome and still having the creature comforts of home. It was also fun to go forage in the garden, hang out with the chickens, and see the wild ponies on the drive in.
A truly dog friendly place- Lulu is a very friendly girl and will love to play with your pup.

One of our friend had a hard time rolling the hills with FWD. So I agree with host regrading awd/4x4 recommendation.

Kristin's property is pure magic! We stayed at the hillside tent site and it is one of the most magical places we've ever visited. It's clear that Kristin has cultivated an amazing place where you are invited to fully BE in nature, in complete privacy and harmony with your surroundings, with every member of your family - human or dog! To call it peaceful, rejuvenating, and inspiring is an understatement. We also loved Kristin's vision of a retreat that can be shared with local schools and to help kids learn to love the land. And our dogs had an absolute blast exploring the old Stagecoach road!
Tips: the site is pack in and pack out. If your car isn't ready to off-road, you'll have to park at the bottom and pack in approx 1/4 mile gradual uphill. The shower was hot and the water had good pressure. We can't wait to come back!
