Weekend Trip to SoCal Camping

We were pleasantly surprised by the space, location, and comfort of our stay! Plenty of space for four people to stay comfortably! We love the communal vibe with our two other tents and because we were there on a light weekend we had the five tent section all to ourselves! The host were great and easy to talk to and allow us our privacy! We are right above the stairs down to the river, which made it really nice for everyone in the group. Bathrooms are very clean and spacious and the showers were always hot! All of my guests couldn’t stop raving about how nice they were! Everything was stocked with quality supplies and there was easy access to water and dish, sinks and hot coffee and tea all day long! It’s nice to be right outside the city and perfect for stargazing! We can’t wait to go back!

My grandkids had a blast exploring the area. The boat was a bit noisy at night when the wind would blow through but the kids slept through. The solar powered lights were beautiful at night. There’s very little light pollution from city lights, so the stars were amazing!

Weekend Trip to Moro Rock View

It was cool seeing wildlife on the property and beautiful mountains. The inside is so charming and more spacious than the pictures show. The kitchenette was stocked with coffee. Great shower and water pressure. There is a great restaurant called River View Grill & Bar a few minute drive that was right on the river & had great burgers. Overall a wonderful stay and would recommend.

2 nights at Okihi- Reimagining The Kern River

Nestled by the beautiful Kern River only minutes from the City of Bakersfield lies the hidden gem that is Okihi. We recently enjoyed two relaxing days and nights at this tranquil and serene place. The accommodations were excellent and Katherine was an amazing host. We had fun exploring the grounds, hanging out by the river and getting to know the animals. Who knew such a cool place was right here in our backyard! We’ll definitely be returning to recharge ourselves soon. We highly recommend Okihi to anyone wanting to do the same.

Great location for exploring Alabama Hills. I needed a camping spot with a flush toilet and this was the perfect spot.

1 night at Blue Moon Orchard Retreat

Hidden gem! Mark/Charlie (?) (site manager) were super accommodating for our last minute booking. We got fogged out of Sequoia NP and needed a place nearby to stay the night before going to the park in the morning. Despite the last minute notice, Charlie was kind enough to get us set up with wood (for a fee) and water (the tap water in the area is nitrate rich) for our stay. The site is next to a small creek which can get buggy during sunset but then is fine at night. There is a well maintained portapotty and large outdoor kitchen sink for campers to use. 10/10 stay. Would recommend it to anyone in our situation or someone looking for a unique stay.

We absolutely loved hanging out at The Squattage this weekend. Ozzy puts so much love and care into the property, he really has thought of everything, it was so cozy and just what we needed. Got to meet many of the locals, everyone is so lovely. The local general store can't be missed, and you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't ask Ozzy about the local trails. 1Mil/10 I would stay here again and recommend anyone looking to get away for a while do the same and book a few nights at The Squattage. You won't regret it!

Underworld Farms

Underworld Farms is a small goat ranch in the Kern River Valley. Surrounded by forestry land, on the Kern River, and on top of what used to be the old town of Whiskey Flat (Later re-named Kernville). There is no end to the beauty, history and adventure all around the property. Life took us to the Kern River Valley after moving out of Los Angeles. We enjoy living in the Southern Sierras immersed in all its natural beauty. The small but magnificent town of Kernville is approximately two and a half miles north of us. Our livestock includes horses, dairy goats, sheep, and rabbits: Most of which are raised and bred as our son's 4H or FFA projects. You may be wondering why our farm is called "Underworld Farms". In a nutshell, since our ranch is on the footprint of the historic town of Whiskey Flat, we just happen to be south of the old Whiskey Flat "Boot Hill" Cemetery. Our "driveway" is the road that led from the old town of Kernville to the cemetery. We hope that you consider parking your RV, van conversion, or trailer on one of our customized spots on the property. Or drive your vehicle and pitch a tent on one of our tent friendly sports. Or enjoy a stay in one of our small cabins. Regardless of what you stay in, you will definitely have a memorable time. The campground is VERY barebones and rural. Critters, bugs, and sometimes fellow Hipcampers can be sparce or prevalent pretty randomly. Because Underworld Farms is a working ranch, you will probably hear livestock noises like horses neighing, sheep and goats calling, and our protector dogs barking from time to time. We encourage you to walk over to the horses and goats and meet them. They especially like when you bring them carrots or apple pieces. The ranch has a double outhouse with a hand washing station sandwiched in between, it is rustic and bare bones. We check it to see if it has paper products, soap, water, and plenty of room in the trash bins. During the hotter months, the "daddy longleg" spiders enjoy infiltrating the outhouses and seem to spin new webs overnight. But they and their webs are harmless and easy to brush off. We ask for your assistance if there is something missing, or the trash needs taking out, or if the spiders have taken over again by getting ahold of us through the Hipcamp App and letting us know. With all that being said, there is an ambient beauty here that is unbelievable and memorable. This beauty and draw is so powerful that it causes the many people who come visit to make arrangements to live in our little valley. There is much to do in and around our valley that you couldn't do it all in a lifetime. We hope that you come and stay at the ranch while enjoying our valley. Our town has some wonderful and unique restaurants, shops and even a brewery next to the River! Our hillside property has great Mountain View’s and the driveway turns directly off of Sierra drive, four miles past the town center (3R post office) and just 2 miles from the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks entrance. It's conveniently located and easy to find! You can hear the tranqual sounds of the flowing Kaweah river from across the street. Sorry, there is NO river access from this campsite. You can go to Slick Rock Recreation area, Lake Kaweah or into the parks to swim, boat, fish and more. Lake Kaweah is about 8 miles away. You drive by it as you enter Three Rivers. My wife Elizabeth and I bought our log home in 2015 and we have been dreaming and adding here ever since! Our dog Chance chases all the fun wildlife off of our property! In addition to deer, we have seen fox, bob cats, an Ocelot, too many coyotes, wild turkeys and bear crossing an animal highway along our upper hillside property line. Hawks, hummingbirds, quail, blue birds, woodpeckers and yellow bellied finches are regularly seen here as well. Owls have been heard; but not seen. We love our country home and mountain views, and look forward to sharing them with you!

On site there is hiking, places to practice yoga or meditate, kayaking, paddle boarding. We also have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience. Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The lake is just on the other side of the highway. You can access the lake by walking, it's right across the street. Less than an 1/8th of a mile is drive in access to the lake. You are welcome to haul in your boat to the property as well, happy to give you boat parking.

We live on an 11-acre ranch in the beautiful and quiet community. This is not a property for loud or raucous parties. Only registered guests are allowed. Pets on leashes are welcome upon prior approval only. Absolutely no fires allowed May-December due to extreme fire danger. No running water and no WiFi. Learn more about this land:Enjoy a luxurious outdoor camping experience in a 16'x20' White Duck canvas tent on a large deck. There is a separate, private bathroom/shower building. Relax and sleep like a baby in a hand-hewn log king-sized bed and queen sized sofa sleeper and opulent linens. The Glamp tent and deck include a private deck, propane BBQ grill, sink with running well water, a refrigerator, Keurig, microwave, and TV with DVD's (no WiFi). July and August are hot in the tent between 2pm-6pm. The evenings are cooling down. We have two fans and an evaporative cooler and an electric heater. ABSOLUTELY NO FIRES MAY-DECEMBER DUE TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER. This is a "Leave No Trace" space and a "Shoeless Tent." Leashed pets are allowed with prior approval by hosts. For your convenience, we have a crate and dog bed available. A 7-person bullfrog spa is available upon request and availability. An outdoor solar shower (may be cold depending on weather and time of day) is available to rinse off prior to using the Spa. No unregistered guests are allowed on the property. We will be there to greet you and describe our property and amenities. We are available to answer your questions or assist you as needed.
