Looking for a place to relax, recharge or explore surrounding areas of Santa Cruz and Monterey counties? Vega Vortex is home to the Gaia Health Retreat and possesses vortex energy! Expect a warm greeting upon arrival. To find us, an unmarked road, listed on maps as "Country Lane" (we call it Vega Vortex Rd). Parking is close to our Vega Vortex sign and a short walk to your tent. Filtered potable water, electricity, shower/toilet with an "on demand" hot/cold water are available. Instructions for use are available and should you need assistance - we are here for you! Experience 2 campsites, BYOT (bring your own tent or rent one from us) or an onsite Bell tent. The Bell tent contains carpeted padded flooring, camp lights, shelving, 2 cots with bedding, plus a memory foam camping mattress! The BYOT site's measurement is 10' x 10' . Both sites have shaded areas, and picnic tables. A shower and a compost toilet are available. Enjoy a designated smoking/vaping spot, multiple benches, and swings, a "grounding" spot, birding, water fountains and art. A no noise policy by the county occurs at 9 pm. Due to a high risk fire zone, no open fires. Due to the proximity of the tents right next to Vega Rd, sounds from vehicles can be heard. The bell tent was beautiful, Thaddeus and Mona were very generous and left little goodies for us when we arrived. Their property is beautiful, the garden leaves the whole place smelling amazing and the wind-chimes everywhere provide a relaxing ambiance. The property is smaller and closer to the main road than we were expecting. We were initially expecting a more secluded space, but Thaddeus and Mona were incredibly kind and left us to ourselves to enjoy the property they have clearly put much thought and effort into. Our added breakfast was delicious with vegetables and herbs from their garden, thank you both for our stay!

The views are stunning and definitely help with emotional regulation and grounding. The more in tuned you are with nature the better your experience will be. The hike up to the Redwood Room was a lot and my first day my legs were SORE! However, there is a water spigot and a pooper close by the room so you don't have to keep climbing up and down for basic needs. The only downfall is food. Because of the raccoons, having food up is a giant no no. However, the nighttime racoon activity did keep my pup up all night, less about me feeling in any sense of danger, but more of something to keep in mind. There was also a cluster of daddy long legs just outside of the room. Knowing they are completely harmless to humans I didn't mind, plus apparently when they cluster, they emit an odor that is supposed to repel predators from coming close so it gave me a sense of safety. Overall, it was a wonderful experience being out there and I hope to return.

Wow. Being welcomed by Thaddeus and Mona (arrived later than expected) helped make our stay there all the sweeter and more memorable. We had some lovely conversations and besides the welcoming gifts, Mona also dug up a plant from the property to give me for planting back at home! The property itself is on a hillside and you'll need to traverse pathways up a hill to access bathroom/shower. There's native plants everywhere, with hummingbirds flitting about. There's also small farms in the neighborhood with goats (which I thoroughly enjoyed) but it's something to note if looking for absolute silence. Highly recommend a stay here for anyone looking to feel connected to the land and community, and not just a place to park/sleep. Feels like home!

I was blown away by the listing, and it met and even exceeded expectations upon arrival. Gene is super cool, and is passionate about his property, and great with communication. The attention to detail he's put into this place is incredible. I was in heaven the three days and nights I spent here. There's no service, and you have a very serene location to unplug here, with easy access to your own beaches and hiking trails. Gene's outdoor kitchen area was great for my cooking needs, and the shower was great too. I stayed in the Redwoods Gazebo up top. It's a hike up, so be prepared, but it's worth it!

We had a lovely stay at the bell tent at Vega Vortex. Thaddeus and Mona were so warm, inviting and communicative. They have created a very peaceful and beautiful environment. Everything was clean and well maintained and there were so many thoughtful little touches and amenities. The property is in farmland and there are roosters and other loud animals, nearby so I recommend bringing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

My son and I stayed in the bell tent and our stay was exceptional. In addition to our mattresses and bedding being so comfortable and lovely, there were fresh flowers, several other little gifts, and just too much to list here.

This is a unique property and in the most beautiful location right across hwy1. The Cabana is very comfortable, nice comfy bed. No electricity and the hike up to it is a very steep narrow trail. You cannot roll a wagon up it so everything needs to be carried to your Cabana and it's not for anyone who has physical restrictions. But the view from the top is worth it!

Dabudage Campsite was pure magic. The views alone are worth the trip—breathtaking ocean vistas that make you pause and soak it all in. It’s just remote enough to disconnect from the outside world (no cell service!) and reconnect with each other, which made it the perfect romantic escape. The site itself is thoughtfully set up. Our cabana was cozy and charming, and the grounds had everything we needed: a well-stocked communal kitchen with cookware, private poopers, multiple fire pits, and the cutest shower you’ll ever see. Every detail felt intentional and inviting. We also loved the vibe—peaceful, friendly, and full of good energy. Our neighbors were kind and respectful, which added to the sense of community without ever feeling crowded. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a peaceful reset, or just want to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean, Dabudage is the spot. Can’t wait to come back.

The yurt was clean and cozy. The heater worked so well and I loved having a kitchenette. The bed was very comfortable! We love the yurt. It is obvious how much love and effort is poured into it. Thank you! We loved the alpacas, the evening fog in the Eucalyptus trees and the cat. We found the compost toilet to be more comfortable than we thought as well.

Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park & Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

Pfeiffer Falls is just one of the many gems to discover at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, ideal for a day hike or evening stroll through Redwood groves and river gorges. Pfeiffer Beach offers a sheltered cove known for its tide pools—well worth the 2-mile windy drive down. Nearby Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is home to McWay Falls, best viewed from the McWay Falls Overlook Trail. The best Big Sur camping includes 174 sites at Pfeiffer Big Sur Campground or two secluded, walk-in campsites at Julia Pfeiffer Burns Campground.

Andrew Molera State Park

There's no car or RV camping at Andrew Molera State Park, but it’s a short trek to the 24 walk-in tent camping sites in an open meadow at the Andrew Molera Trail Camp. This Big Sur campground is well situated for exploring miles of hiking trails. Set off on the Bluffs and Panorama Trail or the Andrew Molera Beach Trail for beach access and views on the Big Sur coast.

Ventana Wilderness

Within Los Padres National Forest, this federally protected wilderness includes some 200 miles of trails. Hikers will encounter a varied terrain, from riparian creeks to the steep, rocky ridges of the Santa Lucia mountains. Backpackers heading into the backcountry are rewarded with miles-high views. Be prepared if you decide to explore the terrain and be sure to observe any fire restrictions.

Carmel Valley & Monterey Bay

Take a side trip into this scenic area, with Monterey Bay and Carmel-by-the-Sea offering Pacific ocean views for coastal campers just 15 miles from the inland Carmel Valley. Stop for wine tasting at a variety of tasting rooms, head to Garland Ranch Regional Park’s many hiking trails, from oak woodlands to ridge trails with views of the Monterey Peninsula, or hit the horseshoe-shaped bay’s Monterey Bay Aquarium.

San Simeon

Considered the gateway to the Big Sur area, this coastal village is home to Hearst Castle, the Piedras Blancas Light Station, and a rookery where you'll find colonies of northern elephant seals year-round. San Simeon beaches are popular for picnics, while fishing is possible from the pier.
