While staying at Red Wing Ranch you will have the opportunity to walk on a section of the original stagecoach road, canoe in our private pond, watch the sunset over the Pacific ocean, and star gaze from what feels like a private planetarium. This is perfect for artists, writers, yogis, and those seeking the tranquility of off grid living. We have 40 acres of land with beautiful hiking in every direction. Our campsites have a fire pit, picnic table, and access to an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen!
The accommodation includes staying in a 850 square foot wooden yurt with bamboo floors. The building has a wooden stove and propane wall heat. We also have a fridge, stove for cooking and propane wall heater inside the yurt. There is a futon that sleeps 2 plus a kids size bed, but please bring sleeping bags or bedding. You can also put up two tents next to the yurt for more sleeping.
We have now added also an attached kitchen and bathroom to the yurt so we have an indoor shower and full kitchen!
There is a detached bathroom with a maintenance free composting toilet and simple outdoor kitchen. You will have access to cooking utensils and cookware, camp stove, and fire pit. There is a solar system so you have access to electricity and wifi.
The drive from Willits is 25 minutes, with only the last 5 minutes on a dirt road. You can do the drive in any car, unless the occasional snowy conditions. There is plenty of parking next to the yurt for easy unpacking.. To access the coast you do have to go back through Willits and use highway 20.

This place is incredible. The ambiance created by the earthy decor inside and out was relaxing, refreshing and so connected to nature. They brought the outside in and made the inside blend seamlessly with it. Beautiful properties have an irresistible charm to them.
The hot tub right off my room was without a doubt the most pampered I have been in a long while. The accoutrements were perfect for any anticipated need. I loved experiencing this space and I would recommend it without hesitation.

Beautiful, magical site. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped with tons of pots, pans, utensils, plates, cups, etc. and all kinds of tools and odds and ends that make you feel at home. There are multiple fridges and freezers and a well-stocked pantry of spices and dried goods as well. The wood-fired hot tub was super relaxing, and the flush toilet was a welcome addition as well. Ben was a fantastic host and was super responsive as well. The vibes were immaculate!

We love Shimmerback Ranch so much that we went back second year in a row! It's a beautiful, serene property that's been well taken care of. There are so many cute areas to hang out in. We especially enjoyed the hot tub by the creek, several amazing areas for star gazing at night and the fully stocked kitchen. Fantastic home to escape to! The view, deck, outside shower and hot tub created such a relaxing atmosphere. The home is clean, comfortable, and very inviting. Great location- we walked into town/the coast for our meals. Restaurant selections were perfect- coffee, beer, cocktails, and food were all great across the board. We would definitely recommend an escape here to anyone who is lucky enough to book this home!

This stay was everything I needed. I booked the Aristocrat trailer with my dog, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and intention went into every detail. The trailer was cozy, stylish, and full of charm.
Mallory and Jeff have created something truly special. The property is beautifully designed, with trails to explore, maps to guide you, and welcome kits for both humans and pups! Even the dog leash hooks in the kitchen made me smile, such a thoughtful touch that shows how well they understand their guests.
The outdoor shower was a bonus - peaceful, refreshing, and somehow made me feel more connected to the land. And the shared kitchen and dining space were so well done. It felt communal without being crowded, and added a layer of comfort and ease to the whole experience.
Mallory was so sweet when we checked out, she made sure everything went smoothly and it was obvious how much she cares about this place. That kind of genuine hospitality really stayed with me.
Already planning my return, next time with people I love so they can experience the magic too!

When I read the description of this site, it immediately called to me. All of the other reviews are preaching the truth. This place was so homey, wonderful, comforting, and you could feel how much love was put into it. The land is the destination, not a quick place to crash for 12 hours while you're visiting the area. I love that it was set up with everything that you'd need when camping. The kitchen had every appliance, dish, and utensil you could want, there was great seating in spots that needed it, there's shady spots everywhere for the 100 degree weather, there's speakers, water floaties, a stargazing bed, grapes growing on the hookah lounge - everything. The water was perfect too. Even in dry late August, the creek was flowing and the swimming hole was deep, cold, and clear.
Things to note:
-You'll have to pack out your trash (no dumpster).
-The dogs are a little terrifying at first but they're just warning everyone that a new person is here! They're sweethearts.
-The one bathroom is not very private - it's a wooden shack in the middle of a clearing near the hot tub, and two of the showers are connected to the outside of it (you can hear everything). Shy poopers beware.
-The hot showers aren't really hot - the solar one doesn't heat at night (lol); the gas one only has enough hot water for 2 minutes; and the last is lukewarm (and in the open)
Thankfully they're making a new private bathroom!
Everything else was perf. We all truly loved it and want to return often.

Stacey thank you for a week of relaxation with our 3 beagles. We were able to relax because Stacy’s outside yard is completely fenced in. Our pups had a field day running and playing.
It was like home away from home.
Everything you would need is in her home for you to use except a coffee pot but I brought that.
We will definitely be back often now that we found her place.

Peaceful location and very nice hosts. I had a flat tire slow leak when I woke up in the AM and Jeff helped me right away get air in it so I could drive to a tire shop. I stayed in the little RV and it is very small, good for me as a small single person plus my little dog but would be tight for 2 adults. You'd have to really like each other. The stars were great and I enjoyed laying out in the field at night. The hosts clearly put a lot of thought into every detail, you can tell they really care about your experience. Don't be intimidated by all the rules, they are easy to follow and reasonable (basically boil down to "be conscientious").

We had a really great weekend at the Shelter Grove House. It was the perfect little spot for some quiet family time. The house was clean, comfy, and and had everything we needed for a low-key stay.
The hot tub was definitely the highlight for my kids — clean and private, it was the perfect way to wind down each evening. It was nice to be somewhere that felt tucked away and quiet.
Would definitely come back again when we’re in need of another low-key getaway.
