You can also enjoy an indoor wood burning stove or a Portable Buddy heater and a two burner Coleman stove with propane tank (on request) , hot or cold running water indoor sink and outdoor shower. We provide a double cartridge toilet just outside in out house. Enjoy the outdoor patio area with hammocks, patio tables and chairs, two bonfire pits to pick from (when wind conditions are ideal) More pictures to come soon. As a International Dark Sky Park, the parks nightscape falls on the Bortel scale of 3 (1 being darkest and 9 being brightest). Nearest gas can be found at the Painted Desert Visitor Center or west down I-40 toward Holbrook at the Hopi Travel Plaza. In Holbrook, groceries can be found at Safeway and local restaurants include Camaleon Cafe, Butterfield Stage Co. Steak House and Mandarin Beauty and host of other Mexican and American restaurants. Trucks do come down Adamana Rd to the storage facility during the week though you probably won't hear or see them much. The train can be a bit loud and obnoxious for some (or a something exciting for the kids) depending on how frequently it passes through so ear plugs at night may be advised. Really enjoyed staying here. It was totally off the beaten track and very peaceful (bar the occasional train you don’t really hear any manmade sounds at all). I don’t think we could have camped any closer to the national park. Having cows as neighbours made for a pleasant addition. I would very happily stay here again - and may well do so, as more of the park to be visited.

2 nights at Petrified Forest Hideaway

This remote campground is on a dirt road for abut a mile. I was able to access it in my Promaster but it would be easier with a truck due to the deep sand once you get off the driveway to the campsites. The host was quite accessible when I had trouble finding the place and he talked me to it over the phone, he was very patient with me.

First of all Sandee was lovely and made us feel so very welcome. Situated on a property that has a main house and multiple guesthouses, my family stayed in the smaller guesthouse. All amenities available meant all our needs were met. The house had plenty of room for us. Our little dog was equally welcome. The ranch was far removed from noise and nonsense, but only 20 minutes from the Petrified Forest south entrance. A beautiful setting!

2 nights at Front Row Seat! Petrified Forest!

Looks like a road you shouldn’t be on. Train ran by every 15-30 minutes just 50 yards from the fence boundary for the Petrified forest park where this camp spot is. It’s a small drive to the Park’s north or south entrance. 2wd is just fine. Room to stretch. Trains were loud and awesome! For $15/night we will look it up again.

We loved this spot!! Beautiful wide open space with a nice table / overhang, bathroom and some fun yard games. And we were so glad to be right near Petrified Forest National Park. It was a bit tricky to get there, but Ken talked us through every step and even spent extra time setting up alternative paths (it had rained) and putting out reflective poles so we could find our way. We really, really appreciated his extra care and hospitality and would love to stay again next time we're in the area! To note, if it's rained recently, we would recommend a high clearance / 4-wheel drive vehicle, but if conditions are dry, we hear you can navigate the road in a Prius!

Weekend Trip to Campfire Ranch @ Petrified Forest

We enjoyed our stay at Shawn’s campsite. It was great since we got in really late and had to set up as the sun was setting but finding it was easy with the instructions we got. The only thing I would say is make sure your vehicle can do a little off road in case of rain. Fortunately we were in a four wheel drive truck and easily got in and out. Thanks Shawn for letting us stay the night during our trip.

The directions were very easy to follow! The road is a bit bumpy in some areas so a high clearance car is what I would recommend, but our 2WD sprinter did just fine! The property was very private and quiet, and my daughter loved seeing the all the cows. The cherry on top was the ending the night with one of the prettiest sunsets I’ve ever seen.

Weekend Trip to Lancelot desert camping

Nani was a remarkable host. Her land is quiet, clean and very pretty. She took the time to drive and meet us and escorted us to her campground. Each spot has a fire pit, picnic table and pad for tents. A really cute outhouse is in between the sites. She has built everything herself, which is quite impressive. She's a carpenter. I do want to note that it is a 9.5 mile drive down a non paved road. It is very ruddy and washboard. We've been boondocking for 7 years and have been on some challenging roads. But, if you are somewhat inexperienced or have a vehicle that isn't equipped for it, you should be aware before attempting. However, it was definitely worth the stay. Beautiful property, very kind hostess and super quiet.

Weekend Trip to Petrified Forest

It was awesome! Know what you are getting into though. This is bare bones, don't expect luxury amenities. What you're getting is some distance between you and the city. And a great view of the stars. This is all about the nighttime sky. The tent is WELL protected from the wind and cold. Tent comes with a few items like a lamp, a space heater, book with local information. A bench outside, a table and two chair inside the tent. Its lovely.

Great remote setting and only about 14 miles from St. John's AZ. I really enjoyed the solitude. Jeremy is a super hoste. He made sure i found the location. The site is questionable for a large RV but for tents, popups, campers etc okay. My Siberian Husky loved running loose.
