Fangthorn Forest wooded campsite
Cheryl and Lane were exceptional hosts! They were welcoming and so easy to speak to about any concerns. We purchased dinner for one evening, and they brought down a homecooked meal with dessert and all the fixings.
The land was private thanks to the trees, and spacious enough for the dogs, as well as my son. There was a cute little fairy garden area to sit and relax in, as well as an adorable bridge you cross over to get to the area. The outhouse was taken care of, which ample supplies in case you needed extra of anything.
The second day we were there, they took us around to meet all the animals, and even let us give some of them treats! They have mostly rescue animals, and they were all so loving and kind. All of the animals were so unique and each had their own backstory as to how they ended up on the farm. Cows, horses, cats, dogs, a pig, and even alpacas!
Cheryl also creates her own yarn and knits and crochets beautiful handmade shawls and scarves from the fleece of their alpacas. Lane works diligently daily to keep up with the tasks around the land.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I'm very thankful we chose to camp out at their site! I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a relaxing place to get away, and hear nature at night. The stars are so visible, the fire pit made for a cozy place to make s'mores, and the atmosphere of the land is warm and lovely. Thank you so much for a wonderful getaway experience! 😊

We enjoyed camping at Fangthorn Forest. Though it had rained previously and the wood was wet, the hosts let us borrow a blow torch to make a fire. The kids loved seeing and feeding the animals. We look forward to coming back again.

I just can’t say enough wonderful things about this experience. The hosts are so kind and caring. The camping spot was in a clearing with a short walk across a bridge. There was a great fire pit and Layne kept it stocked with wood. He even provided a gas torch that made starting fires easy and fun. In addition to this beautiful, quiet camping spot….a nearby fairy cove was beautifully situated which made for hours of reading. In the middle of the pasture, a gated area with additional space for hanging out with the animals was a two minute walk from my camping spot. All weekend long, I enjoyed getting to know all the animals. Each animal has a name and a personality. I loved the horses but quickly began to appreciate the cattle, alpacas, llama, pig, cats and dogs. The rescued animals are healthy, well-fed and loved. It was the most restful and unique camping experience. The owners added some great fall/Halloween decorations that thrills the kid in all of us. Kids would really benefit from this environment. I had no problem getting cell service but wouldn’t have minded either way. The sunsets were especially gorgeous. The hosts left me to myself but didn’t mind when I had questions- they are so smart. I enjoyed my stay so much I added another day on. I got to take my gravel bike out and explore all the nearby areas. Being able to bike was an added bonus. I am already excited to bring my grandson back!

We wanted to try camping with our two little girls. This worked for a secluded, quiet spot. The wagon provided to take transport gear was super helpful. Also the torch provided to start a fire. Grass was freshly mowed and made the clearing inviting. It was surprisingly not too buggy even though it was humid. We didn’t spend much time with Cheryl, but she and her husband were hospitable. Our girls loved the animals!

The campsite was nicely mowed and the paths were kept nice. Plenty of room for multiple tents or a larger group. It is primitive, so keep that in mind. No hookups, but they did have an outhouse and it was decent. They also have potable water, but its at the barn. The animals were awesome. You're able to feed and maybe pet a Llama, alpaca, or some horses. They also have cows youre able to walk around with. Cheryl and her husband were awesome and super nice.
The only downside to me was having to park and walk all the gear to the site. Theres no way of driving to the site because of the creek. Its not far, but if you have alot of stuff be prepared to take a few trips. However, they did have a nice cart you can use to haul stuff.
Would stay there again and I would also recommend.

The camping space is a beautiful clearing in the forest. The owners were very friendly and we loved seeing the animals. There was a great variety and quantity of bugs that made some things tricky.

Cheryl and her husband were such wonderful hosts! The site on their property is gorgeous! The site is a mix of slightly elevated ground with lower ground that descends into a creek bed. It is beautifully shaded and well-maintained. It was very picturesque. There are well-maintained trails to hike through the property, composting restroom accommodations, a fire pit, firewood, and a little fairy glen to relax peacefully in. They were so welcoming of our dogs and great with the kids! They let us know when feeding time was so that the kids could feed the animals with them. They interacted with the baby calves, which was likely more fun for me than for the kids. They made themselves available for everything we needed and were so helpful. This was a first time camping experience for the kids and so we kept it short to a single night. It was the perfect spot, though. Even though the weather wasn't great for us, we had a great time and will be back.

This was our second time camping here and it was absolutley perfect! Anytime we talk about camping my kids are asking to go to Fangtorn Forest. Cheryl is so kind and welcoming. Her Husband helped us get our fire started after we were really struggling. The area feels just secluded enough but when we forgot something we were only about 15 minutes from a Dollar General. My kids loved getting to see and feed all the animals and are so excited to go back in the spring and see Harlequinn's baby. My kids ask a lot of questions and Cheryl was patient and kind and answered their questions about the animals and what they eat and how they are cared for. I can not reccomend their camp site enough. My in laws who are seasoned campers also loved camping here as well.

The hosts were very welcoming. The campsite was clean and had room for multiple tents. They provided plenty of split firewood. We had a great time interacting with the horses, cows, and alpacas. I would definitely recommend staying here and will be coming back.

I had the best time in a very long time. I love the solitude and quiet from the city noise. The site is well shaded, very large (could accommodate a few tents easily), and mowed. There is a nice picnic table and lots of wood ready to use and stacked nicely. Cheryl has decorated for Halloween and there are blinking eyes and pumpkins that light up the night. There is also a cute fairy garden that is a good spot for a sit. The composting toilet was clean and no odor. There are some mowed trails that meander around the property that I wish I would have explored more. Cheryl is a great host and eager to share the stories of her animals. I took advantage of the dinner she offers and I was NOT disappointed -delicious, home cooked meal. I was grateful to not have to cook and could just enjoy nature. I am a knitter and spinner so I purchased some of her alpaca roving and can hardly wait to spin with it.

Wow, this place is incredible! The owners have created a beautiful shade-covered private campsite in the woods across a little bridge and down a trail from the parking area, with a small fairy garden along the path. The composting toilet is convenient and all paths are nicely lit at night from well-placed solar lamps throughout the woods. They've cut hiking trails into the forest right from the large campsite area that are pleasant hikes through the woods. The farm is a geriatric horse rescue so there are lots of various horse breeds running around in the pasture nearby. A wonderful experience and we very highly recommend it! We will be back for sure.

This is a fantastic place to camp! Cheryl is a really nice person that knows the property and all of the animals on it.
It was a perfect place to get away with my dogs! It would appear that the owners put a lot of thought into how they set up the area. You are probably least than 400 feet from your car, but it feels like you are deep in the woods.
Highly recommended. There is just something special about this place.

Cheryl was a great hostess, gracious, kind, and spent lots of time showing off her awesome animals to the kids. She even supplied a camp stove due to the wind being too strong to cook over fire. The campsite was well lit, private, and stocked with firewood.

Beautiful land, friendly people! Easy to park camper and hook up to utilities. They have a beautiful area with a fire pit with pre cut wood. They have a fancy outhouse with motion sensor light that comes on when you walk in. There is lighting all along the path to the outhouse. Their animals are just as friendly as the hosts and will come say hi.

This property was amazing! The hosts were super friendly and gave us a tour of the whole farm and let us meet/feed the animals! Even with a rainy/muddy weekend, we had a blast and would definitely come back with some friends! Cheryl also makes her own yarn out of the alpaca fur that you can purchase!

We really enjoyed staying at Fangthorn Forest Farm. The land is beautiful, directions were clear and easy to follow. The farm animals were wonderful and the tent camping site secluded and still easy to reach. Lane and Cheryl are thoughtful hosts. Lane checked on us and brought plenty of wood for the fire pit. Our stay was relaxing and fun!

Our stay was great. It’s a beautiful, secluded spot with plenty of shade and spots to place a tent. The hosts are accommodating and the site was clean. Plus, we got to see cows and horses! We’ll definitely stay again in the future.

Our family had a such a peaceful camping experience at Fangthorn Forest. The private campsite is so large and open but also surrounded by forest. The hosts provided us with plenty of firewood for the chilly nights and cooking. Our children, age 4 and 1, loved interacting with the animals up close. The owners have a lovely animal rescue farm and it's clear they have enormous compassion in taking care of the animals. We can't recommend this place enough!
