In pittsburg there is the Ezekial aircraft and local history museum. also within 20 miles are major likes for water sports and sport fishing beyond our own famous "Catfish pond".

Our homestead is a few acres in East Texas, near Hawkins. The land has been untouched for about 30 years, maybe last used for cattle grazing. We're keeping the property as natural as possible, we live here off-grid and off-pipe. There’s a 17 acre lake that we share with neighbors. It’s full of bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish, we encourage catch and keep fishing since the lake could use a little fishing pressure. We also have a beaver pond, and resident beaver. Some of the wildlife we see regularly: fireflies, turtles, cardinals, bluejays, hummingbirds, kite birds, frogs, opossums, armadillos, beaver, river otter, road runners and rabbits. These plants live here too: Beautyberry, Dewberry, Pokeberry, Sparkleberry, Dogfennel, Dogwood, Yaupon Holly, Holly, Wax Myrtle, Sassafras , Lyreleaf Sage, Carolina Crane’s bill, Coral Honeysuckle, Western White Honeysuckle, Smooth Cat’s Ear, Daisy Fleabane, Prairie Onion, Mullein, Summer Grape, Water Lily. The entire water lily plant is edible, did you know? Swim, hang out, cool down on the small swimming dock. Canoe and kayak included! Based on shared availability, we have 1 two person canoe, and 3 kayaks for use on our lake free of charge. There are smaller size adult life jackets and oars/paddles. Bring your own life jackets for kids. Brookshire's in Hawkins less than 4 miles away if you need supplies. LGBTQ+ friendly.

Primitive camping on Caddo Lake is an experience like no other. Spanning 25,400 acres, the naturally formed fresh water lake gracefully crosses from Louisiana into Texas and is home to the largest cypress forest in the world. The area on which this camp is located is rich in history--once the dwelling place of Caddo Indians who were known for their basket weaving and pottery skills. The site was part of the land acquired by the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Caddo Lake has a unique ecosystem and is a high quality habitat for many species, including migratory and resident waterfowl, osprey, eagles, alligators, and many species of fish. It is considered to be a valuable water system and Texas' only wetland of international importance. Kayaks, canoes, and peddle boats may be launched from the shore. Visitors will want to be familiar with Louisiana State Laws concerning boating and fishing, including those that apply to children. Fires are permitted unless there is a Parish mandated burn ban in effect.

Avinger Station RV Park The History of the Station Established in 1876 as a Railroad Depot Avinger Station operated as such until the mid 20th century. After being put out to pasture, the depot was rescued from oblivion as a barn and brought back to Avinger in 1998. It was moved to a more prominent location near its original site in June of 2021 after pondering how the depot might serve the community once again. Desiring to preserve and improve our community’s heritage of service to travelers and trades, the depot is being restored and will serve as the RV Park office. Pets outside must be on leash, under control, and not left unattended. Pet owners are responsible to immediately picl up after their pets. This is a quite spot in east texas. There’s woods on one side of us and a cattle/ quarter horse ranch on the other. We have calm red angus cattle on the property and their guard donkeys. If you’d like to feed them just let us know! You can fish near by at a public fishing spot. We will eventually be able to offer fishing on the property, we are working on stocking. If there ends up being an interest in hunting we can look into that. This is a primitive site so bring your gear! Mount Pleasant and New Boston are about 30 minutes away with restaurants and shopping.

Had a great time here! The area was spacious, camp fire and tire swing along with grill area in great locations. Host was super nice as well as her pup who my dog got along with and that's saying something because she likes her personal space. Her dog was a great watch dog of the area, showing my dog around the area and he spent time around my camp area which was nice. Great scenery and I would definitely stay here the next time I want to visit East Tx and go camping 😀

I loved camping on Will and Austyn's land. They met us with a warm hello a tour upon arrival. The tent was located towards the back of the property, tucked away nicely. We had the whole camp to ourselves, which was GREAT! We wanted a nice and quiet trip, which is what we got. The tent itself was cozy. Before we arrived, Will and Austyn set up our tent and bathroom area with heaters, turned on and ready to go. That was an AMAZING touch. The night we arrived, the low was 25 degrees. But it actually got hot in the tent, I was sweating. They also provided an electric blanket! Again, a wonderful touch that they didnt have to provide. The wifi was Great! If you want to unplug completely, great. But we needed the service for Emergency calls back home. The community kitchen was great! It had almost everything we needed. The bathroom was warm because of the space heater and fully stocked with essentials! Now a couple of things to think about: If you're a coffee drinker, bring k cups. Thats what was inside the tent. Or it will be a process to use the French press. Personally, not my thing, but im a HUGE coffee drinker. The kitchen isnt heated, so cooking was painful the first night only because it was so cold. But the soup we made was worth it. Spiders... everywhere. Lol its expected... only daddy long legs but be aware if you a terrified of spiders like myself. Lighting in the tent was low, bring a lantern! Theres a spot to hang one. All in all it was WONDERFUL! WILL be back!

We had a great time. The site was nice with a big stone for ring and a soft bed if pine needles. The host, Linda, was very accommodating and responded quickly to communications and made the trip stress free. We loved Porter the goat, Andy the big lovable dog and Molly the little friendly dog. Andy and Porter slept outside of our tent and it was adorable. The location of pretty with some room to explore. Highly recommend.

Great place to camp with Lynda and Reston being great hosts! We got in very late due to an unseen emergency and Reston still escorted us to our camp site. The grounds were great with so much room to explore. The Haunt was awesome and being able to order breakfast the last day was so much easier for pack up.

1 night at Daffodil Hill Homestead

I very much enjoyed my stay here. Very private and the lake was so peaceful. It’s probably too small for motorboats (that’s a good thing in my book) but big enough for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. I loved hearing the chorus of frogs and the blips of light from the fireflies. It’s not the easiest to get to, but the directions provided by the host were excellent. They meet you at the gate and give you a tour of the facilities. You can text if you have any trouble or questions, but otherwise leave you alone to enjoy your stay. AT&T was one bar, but there is enough clearing for Starlink if you need that. I saw some of the comments saying you need 4wd to get there. You don’t unless it’s been raining. Just take it slow. I never once put it in 4wd. Higher clearance helps but not necessary. If you question this, just contact the host. I’m sure they will advise you on the best decision. Being August in East Texas, I thought I would be miserably hot, but it was about 10 degrees cooler there. The shade from the trees was quite adequate so no need for a canopy. I didn’t have a fire, but firewood is available for a fee. The picnic table is level which is good for cooking on a propane stove. The tent area has some pitch to it. I stay in my Jeep, so I just use rocks for leveling. I would definitely stay here again. I travel extensively staying mostly in primitive public lands. Texas has very few places like that, so I prefer to support local landowners over the commercial campgrounds.

1 night at Avinger Station RV Park

This was my second stay at Avinger RV Park. I love the size of the park. I think there are only 14 sites on the property. There are plenty of pull through sites. It is very clean and the full time RVers keep their site clean. There is a weight room, bathroom with shower and FREE washers and dryers. They are renovating the station. I'm sure it will be beautiful once it's complete.

Daingerfield is known for its Cathedral of Trees, a majestic mix of pine, oak, maple, and dogwood trees, making it a top spot for fall colors in Texas. Enjoy swimming, paddling, boating, or fishing in the 80-acre Little Pine Lake, then hit one of two hiking trails to explore the scenery: the easy, 2.4-mile Rustling Leaves Trail that wraps around the lake or the moderate ,1.2-mile Mountain View Trail. The park hosts a robust calendar of ranger-led programs, including nature programs, kayaking lessons, and underwater discovery. Four campgrounds, several historic cabins, and a lodge allow visitors to spend the night.

Notable campgrounds

Best for large RVs: The Big Pine Campground can fit RVs up to 119 feet long while offering nice shade and easy access to Lake Daingerfield.
Best for hikers: The Mountain View Campground is right next to a network of trails, so hikers can get an early start right from camp.
Best for shade and seclusion: The Dogwood Campground features shady spots and a rustic vibe—reserve site 11, 27, or 28 for the most privacy.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Plan ahead. All campsites can be reserved up to five months in advance, so make a reservation as soon as you know your dates, especially for the peak fall season.
If your plans are flexible, try to visit during the week, during non-holiday periods, or in winter for fewer crowds. The park, lake, and campgrounds are open year-round.
If visiting as part of a group, consider staying at the lodge, which can be reserved up to 12 months in advance. Cabins are also available for same-day walk-ups if they haven't been reserved ahead of time.

When to go

The park is a popular leaf-peeping destination, making fall one of the most popular times to visit—late October to early November bring peak fall colors. Summer is a good time to enjoy a cool dip in Lake Daingerfield, while spring means the area's hills are covered in wildflower blooms. From March to November, the park pavilion hosts dances to jukebox tunes, plus karaoke and live music on select weekends.

Know before you go

The park store sells souvenirs, snacks, fishing, and camping supplies.
Fishing licenses are not required when fishing from the shore or boat at the park. Fishing equipment rentals are available.
Paddle boat, canoe, kayak, and flat-bottom boat rentals are available year-round at the park store and on weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day at the boathouse.
Motor boats are allowed on the lake, but there is a 5 mph speed limit.
Pets, glass containers, and fishing are prohibited in the swimming area. Pets are allowed in the park but not inside any buildings, including the lodge and camping cabins.
