Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Located just 2 miles off I-10, 8 miles to the West of Sierra Blanca, and 80 miles South/South-East of El Paso. This property is truly a part of the "OLD WEST". Sierra Blanca was named after Sierra Blanca Mountain, just North-West of town. The town came into existence when competing railroads for a second (Southern) transcontinental railroad line came within 10 miles of one another in 1881. Jay Gould, famous railroad magnate and robber baron, drove a silver spike commemorating the event on Dec. 15th 1881. The town sprang up around that spot, although the population didn't reach 350 people until 1914. It is best described as grazing land that is flat to slightly sloping terrain covered with desert sagebrush and grasses.

Directions to camping spot are very clear! Was able to find late at night. Anna Mae is super responsive if needed. The site was much quieter than I expected with close proximity to I-10 which was really nice since I was in a tent.
This was a great place to pull over and stay the night. Right off 10, a little tricky to get to, so do it when it's light outside. We would stop again.
I booked this Hipcamp last minute after I couldn’t find one site I had booked. I am SO GLAD because this one was SO GREAT! The host responded promptly to my concerns. I had a hard time finding the site at first but eventually noticed that the pictures gave better landmarks. The site had solar lights to help navigate big divots in the ground (oh yeah, drive SLOW). The sky was unbelievable and the stars in the middle of the night were gorgeous. 15/10
Conveniently located off the highway. It was a minimalist site, private from other campers, perfect for an easy, affordable spot to sleep on a roadtrip. The camping spots are a little hard to locate even with the directions and pictures, as it’s a big property and you drive down several long dirt roads past a trailer etc. There is a fair amount of wind blown litter as you’d expect for a roadside location.
Annie’s outpost is in the brush desert. You can see the highway a couple miles away. You can see him couple hundred foot tall cell tower a mile or so away. For my style of camping and traveling this place was great. There were trash, cans and multiple fire pits. I would not take any vehicle there unless it was a high clearance vehicle. Midsize SUV or larger. Forget anything like an RV. 100% with stay again. Just know what you’re getting into. T-Mobile service was great. Plenty of downed wood, or I should say down brush for a fire.
This was a beautiful and peaceful spot. Close to i10 but mostly pin drop quiet, unlike the very noisy nearby rest stops. Safe for female travelers and Anna Mae was super helpful and responsive. We'd stay here anytime we're passing through.
This was perfect for what I needed. An easy spot to pull into at sunset (and great big sky for it!). I don't think I'd want to drive an RV or large trailer in on the road... it was a bit more rutted than expected. Quite dusty with the wind and a little hard to determine where the 3 sites were, but there was one other very friendly camper there that night and we chatted about that confusion and ultimately navigated it fine. Would camp here again if I was passing through.
We had a great time car-camping at Anna's Outpost! The road was a bit rough due to recent rains, but passable in our low-slung SUV. The campsites are rustic, but we were still able to pull right in and had a nice, quiet night under a bright canopy of stars. The highway is nearby, but was quiet and was actually pretty to watch from the distance. AT&T didn't have great service despite a cell tower being within sight, but other carriers may fare better. Recommended!
We struggled a bit with the directions in the dark, but that was mostly user error. Beautiful patch of desert with a barrel for trash and one for a fire pit with plenty of bullet holes for airflow to get a nice burn going.
It was perfect for me and my situation. I was on the road gor 12 hours and it was nice to have a safe spot to pull off the road and pitch my tent.
Host gives specific directions on how to find the campgrounds, so read the directions! It's just a spot to pitch a tent and some bins to light a fire. That's pretty much it. But, I loved it. The stars came out around 12 am and it was beautiful
Extremely high winds kept us from camping the night we reserved. Spent a disappointing night in Van Horn instead. Good thing, the winds really blew through town, would have taken the top off my camper. We drove over the next morning to check it out, The road is a bit rough and no where to turn around if you have a trailer. It would have been a great place to spend the evening and wake up the next morning out in the desert looking at Sierra Blanca (Mt). Annie was very helpful in our correspondences. Not exactly sure where the “campsites” actually are, but there is unlimited room to pull off the dirt road. We will try again on our next trip out. Very convenient to I-10.
NOT SUITABLE FOR LARGE RV’s, especially towing a car. The road in was horrible and damaged the towed car. There is no place to turn around. We unloaded the car, disconnected the tow dolly, and with much effort got the RV turned around. No way to get off the “road” so camped on it. On the positive side, the location was convenient to I 10 and had good cell service.
The site was great if you have a tent. Be aware, this is a straight out (narrow) dirt road with no turnaround to speak of. If you have a travel trailer or RV probably should avoid unless they clear a turnaround for you, the road out is quite rough and if your trailer does not have high clearance, it will get stuck. It was good, and close to the highway not far enough.
I liked the fact it’s close to the highway, but not too close. Good primitive site. Could use some maintenance though…but otherwise a good experience to get ourselves started in camping totally out in the sticks. Thanks Annie! Take care.
