Its dark, try to setup your camp before the sunsets. No light pollution unless there is a full moon. We are a primitive site with safe well water drawn from a sandstone bed. Less than a mile walk to National Forest and 8 miles from Cloudcroft.  Free-roaming horses, elk, mule deer, whitetail, turkey, and all critters in between. Awesome sunsets and perfect for stargazing.

Oak site is for tents, a short walk (40 paces) from vehicle parking. Want to be immersed? The game trail about 120 paces up hill from first fire pit offers seclusion and a western valley view. Vehicles with a tight turning radius can turn around here. only two vehicles are allowed. Fire pit and plenty of wood to gather and burn. Nice view of mountains looking west at both locations. On the north side of the mountain, near the game trail, this will allow you to sleep in a bit longer before the sun touches your tent. WiFi is generally with in reach if you’re needing to connect to the internet. There are no bathroom amenities here, Guests will need to be self-contained, take the waste with them, and leave no trace. Portable water is available for drinking , cleaning, and making sure campfire is cold.

This site can accommodate two couples or a family with trailer. The ground is not level. There is free internet, and foraging for firewood. The dog cable runs between an oak tree and a pine tree. It's dark after sunset. Try to set up camp before sunset. No light pollution unless there is a moon. We are a primitive site with safe, well water drawn from a sandstone bed. There is a faucet nearby if you want to hook it up to the RV, but always use a pressure regulator. Walking distance to Lincoln National Forest, 8 miles from Cloudcroft, and 37 miles from Ruidoso. The trails we follow were created by the horses, elk, and deer, which can be found midway on the mountain behind us—some campers begun marking the trail with stacked rocks. Free-roaming horses, elk, mule deer, whitetail, turkey, and all critters in between. We have a horse and cow pooper scooper if needed. Awesome sunsets and perfect for stargazing.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cypress Bluff Campsite is a hidden gem and one of the most peaceful places we’ve camped. Tucked away on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, it offers the perfect balance of seclusion and convenience. The camp host lives just up the hill, so help is nearby if you need anything, but the nearest neighboring homes are miles away, giving you a true sense of privacy and solitude. The site is rustic yet thoughtfully equipped with water, a fire pit, and firewood available, making it easy to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Wildlife is plentiful, and Cloudcroft and Lincoln National Forest are just around the corner, with excellent hiking and endless opportunities to explore. The biggest surprise was the night sky. With almost no light pollution, the stars were absolutely breathtaking. The Milky Way was brilliantly visible, making this an unforgettable destination for anyone who loves astronomy or simply appreciates a spectacular night sky. If you’re looking for a quiet mountain getaway with an exceptional host, beautiful surroundings, and some of the best stargazing you’ll ever experience, Cypress Bluff Campsite earns every bit of its five-star rating. Loved the quiet, secluded primitive camping. Mountain elevation provides wonderful star gazing when sky is clear, cool days, cold nights, animals passing through, and forest fragrances make for a peaceful stay. My husband and I stopped for an overnight camping stay while passing through the area. We found it much more interesting than regular campgrounds, but we didn’t have much time to explore and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Depree had excellent communication prior to our arrival and welcomed us upon our arrival.

Beautiful land, fairly easy to find. The host is very nice. It’s not private though, you can see the hosts house from the site. I wouldn’t personally go back but it is a good spot if you don’t care to be next to someone’s house. I was expecting different from the reviews.

The surrounding land, the hospitality and kindness of Depree, the bugling elk, and the endless views of stars made for such a special and memorable camping adventure for our family. Coyote Bluff is a spacious camping set up with a gorgeous view. We appreciated how helpful Depree was during our stay and the wonderful communication regarding the weather and direction before hand. We love the space that Depree has been nurturing and would absolutely recommend staying here- I know we will next time we are in the area!

We really enjoyed our stay! Dupree was a great host. She was so welcoming to all of us, including my teenage daughter and our two dogs. She knew how to make herself accessible, and also give us our space at the same time, perfect balance! We felt so lucky to experience such a beautiful, serene and safe gem of a spot. We came up from Las Cruces spontaneously, and she accommodated us on short notice. Two beautiful nights tent camping, daytimes sprinkled with wanderings through her incredible surroundings. We went to sleep to sounds of coyotes and wild horses, ended up spotting a herd during a lovely hike up the hill through velvety green grasses and sweet smelling pines. An 8 mile drive from Cloudcroft, a world away, beautiful.

Depree’s land is 8000ft up in the mountains next to Lincoln National Forest. The camping spot is down the hill from Depree’s summer home, was flat for my 15 ‘ travel trailer, and has a great view of the mountains, the sunset, and the stars. There is a good firepit at the site. Depree is a lovely, fun, helpful person who is among other things a clay sculptress. She has a charming little terrier named Coco. I plan to stop here again in the future!

My wife and I went and loved it. Lots of wild horses and animals around. You could heard elk all night long. It’s also a nice area to explore. Depree was one of the nicest people we’ve ever met. We will definitely be returning someday!

Depree was a fantastic host and I would highly recommend this spot to anyone who wants a break from the crowded and noisy campgrounds. She was nice enough to provide a map of the area for hiking (private, uncrowded hiking on her property as well as directions to Lincoln). The nights were clear for amazing star gazing and the Milky Way. We could hear elk bugling and anylers clashing as well as coyote howling in the near distance. It was an amazing stay! Thank you, Depree!

We absolutely loved our stay with Depree at Coyote Bluff! It was easy to find, get in, and get parked. The views were incredible. It was quiet, very secluded, and loved the view of the stars. Depree was so nice and helpful. She helped us get a fire going, it had rained as soon as we got there so the wood was soaked. She communicated with us so well. We would stay there every time!

Depree’s place is absolutely beautiful. It’s part of a forrest on a hill, where horses, elk, dear and other animals walk around in the wild. We built a nice campfire, enjoyed the stars and had a wonderful walk on the terrain the next morning. The nearby village Cloudcroft is really nice, with lots of hikes starting nearby the village (check the alltrails app). Last but not least: Depree is a wonderful host, and a very nice person. Due to our already set traveling plans we only stayed one day and night, but I would absolutely advise to stay longer.

We loved tent camping on Depree's land! She was a fantastic host and was very considerate and attentive to our stay, ensuring our safety was a priority. Oak Gnome is beautiful and private; it gave us a fantastic escape from the city and plenty of bright stars to gaze at. We were amazed by the wild horses, elk, and other creatures and critters that share the land. We would definitely recommend this site or her other site on the property, as both are beautiful and perfect for tent camping. Thank you for allowing us to stay, we hope to visit again soon! 💚
