We had a wonderful time at Kevin’s campsite. The property and view were beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for better hosts. Their German Shepherds, Ears and Chachii, were a special treat for us and our kids. We loved having them around to play with. Upon our arrival, we were actually greeted by a heard of wild elk walking right through Kevin’s property! Amazing!! Kevin is also a very talented woodworker, who made us a special hand carved, wooden feather, laser engaged with our family name and trip dates. It is an incredible keepsake, we will cherish for years to come. I wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back. We highly recommend staying at Kevin’s campsite. 10 out of 5 stars!!! Thank you, Kevin and Shawn, for sharing your beautiful land with us.

Blessing & Great Camping Experience
Where do I start. Camping at Sugar Hill was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. The land is rich and sacred and a blessing to be able to stay on. Kevin is a fantastic host and person who I’m grateful to have met. We had great conversation around the fire and it felt like community. I can’t wait to go back and stay longer next time.

This was a maiden voyage with our campervan & 2 dogs. It couldn't have been a better experience. Kevin was so kind & open with us. His land was a beautiful spot to be. Elk bugled throughout the night & the milky way was quite visible. Kevin was kind enough to introduce us to his daughter & we also met his sweet mother. It was really wonderful to share experiences & life stories with Kevin. We can only hope our future Hipcamp experiences are as wonderful as it was to be with Kevin on his land. Thank you Kevin & Ladybug for making us feel so welcome!

Camping in the mountains
Camped next to Kevin’s place. He is enhancing some foot paths near his site. A little nervous about bears in the area but Kevin’s two shepherds were there to bark bears away so helped feel safe. Sweet big babies.

Kevin and Sean were fabulous! They helped us find a great spot and helped us unhook our trailer. They were lovely to visit with in the evenings and their three young pups were an extra bonus!

Beautiful land, wonderful host
Sometimes you stay at a nice Hipcamp and never meet the owner, which is fine. But at Sugarhill Woodworks, meeting Kevin was a highlight. His place is lovely, abutting a forested canyon where we walked our dog. Kevin is a very warm host who enjoys sharing his land and his culture, and we really appreciated his hospitality. We’d definitely return if we are ever in his area. A great stay.

Kevin is a warm and welcoming person and he lets you decide how much interaction you want. The site is quiet and windy. It’s gorgeous and both Roswell and Alamagordo are easy to reach from there. Also, it’s not hard to find his place. I thought it was great.

Elk, Views, Fantastic Host
We had an amazing experience camping on Kevin's land in the heart of the Mescalero-Apache Indian Reservation. A herd of elk (!) walked and grazed right outside our door every day. We hiked the nearby historic Apache cemetery, peaceful and spiritual. Kevin teaches Apache language in the local school, and is a talented craftsman with his woodworking right on site. If you are interested he will share a bit of his family's local and long history. Kevin's land overlooks the canyon and historic St. Joseph's Church. We heard the bells at 2 pm each day. Honestly everything about our 4-night stay was magical and memorable. Recommend highly.

We loved this site! Convenient from Hwy 70. Plenty of room, quiet, peaceful. Sorry to have missed Kevin, but Shawn was a very helpful and friendly host. Electric and fire pit available. Greeted by a "herd" of elk on his property early a.m. Very special for us. Highly recommend!!

Peaceful Campsite On A Reservation
We had a great time camping on Kevin's land. It is located on the Mescalero Reservation. Kevin teaches the Apache language at the local reservation high school. He generously shared stories of his family and the cultural history of his tribe. He has some very interesting family stories. Ask him about them... He has a perfect view of the town and surrounding mountains from his campsites. There are also plenty of elk and other wildlife that roam the surrounding land. Kevin also does handcrafted woodwork and is open to sharing his knowledge, or just giving you some space to enjoy the scenery and beauty of the surrounding land.
