Camping in the mountains
Camped next to Kevinâs place. He is enhancing some foot paths near his site. A little nervous about bears in the area but Kevinâs two shepherds were there to bark bears away so helped feel safe. Sweet big babies.

Kevin and Sean were fabulous! They helped us find a great spot and helped us unhook our trailer. They were lovely to visit with in the evenings and their three young pups were an extra bonus!

Beautiful land, wonderful host
Sometimes you stay at a nice Hipcamp and never meet the owner, which is fine. But at Sugarhill Woodworks, meeting Kevin was a highlight. His place is lovely, abutting a forested canyon where we walked our dog. Kevin is a very warm host who enjoys sharing his land and his culture, and we really appreciated his hospitality. Weâd definitely return if we are ever in his area. A great stay.

Kevin is a warm and welcoming person and he lets you decide how much interaction you want. The site is quiet and windy. Itâs gorgeous and both Roswell and Alamagordo are easy to reach from there. Also, itâs not hard to find his place. I thought it was great.

Elk, Views, Fantastic Host
We had an amazing experience camping on Kevin's land in the heart of the Mescalero-Apache Indian Reservation. A herd of elk (!) walked and grazed right outside our door every day. We hiked the nearby historic Apache cemetery, peaceful and spiritual. Kevin teaches Apache language in the local school, and is a talented craftsman with his woodworking right on site. If you are interested he will share a bit of his family's local and long history. Kevin's land overlooks the canyon and historic St. Joseph's Church. We heard the bells at 2 pm each day. Honestly everything about our 4-night stay was magical and memorable. Recommend highly.

We loved this site! Convenient from Hwy 70. Plenty of room, quiet, peaceful. Sorry to have missed Kevin, but Shawn was a very helpful and friendly host. Electric and fire pit available. Greeted by a "herd" of elk on his property early a.m. Very special for us. Highly recommend!!

Peaceful Campsite On A Reservation
We had a great time camping on Kevin's land. It is located on the Mescalero Reservation. Kevin teaches the Apache language at the local reservation high school. He generously shared stories of his family and the cultural history of his tribe. He has some very interesting family stories. Ask him about them...
He has a perfect view of the town and surrounding mountains from his campsites.
There are also plenty of elk and other wildlife that roam the surrounding land. Kevin also does handcrafted woodwork and is open to sharing his knowledge, or just giving you some space to enjoy the scenery and beauty of the surrounding land.

Kevin is very kind and a great resource for the area. Came in late so he greeted us in the morning. Will stay again next time we pass through.
