Convenient drive to Starved Rock
We tent-camped at the first site on the right. There was plenty of room for only the two of us. We appreciated having an electrical cable to re-charge our powerstation. The outhouse was convenient, clean and the automatic exterior lights made it easy for a midnight trip to the loo. The shower setup is not very private, but Russ intends to improve on it.
There are lots of statuary throughout the property, plus several shipping containers, piles of poles and other ongoing projects. We appreciated the fresh eggs.

The Blue Lagoon @ R&L Farm
The lagoon site provides campers with their own private lagoon. It is a smaller site, which makes it somewhat cozy. Flat areas for setting up your tent are predominantly harder packed earth - most of the grassy areas are sloped. There was a picnic table and trash can on site which made meal prep very easy and convenient. This site is located behind a workshop whose lights make the stroll down the path, to the portapotty, a relatively easy one at night. Mosquitos were pretty prominent at dusk. Russ was a gracious host who genuinely wanted us to be comfortable during our stay.

Great Experience!
We LOVED our stay at R & L Farms!! Wow! Fantastic host. Russ was so very helpful and friendly. We were first time RVers and he went out of his way to teach and help in such a way that helped us build our confidence. We made a great friend and will be returning over and over again!! Russ kept us in stock of good humor, firewood and farm fresh eggs! He was so accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. It’s very peaceful and quiet there. Loved all the trees and fresh country air! Boutique RV host is the way to go! I would definitely recommend staying and returning! Thank you Russ for a great stay!!

Site 2 - The Outback
Tucked away & close to everything
Russ was welcoming and helpful as ever, he has several areas for camping on the land & is about a half hour out from starved rock, mathesson, and the Buffalo trail. There’s a Walmart about 20 minutes out to cover all needs that you may have forgotten to pack & a cute ice cream shop near by. We had some bad luck with the train running and blaring it’s horn all night but I’m pretty sure that was just some Bad timing for us & obviously out of the campsites control

If you are looking for a remote campsite in the middle of the woods, this is the place! Depending on the size of you tent it may be a bit small, wouldn't recommend one site for more than 3 people that are sharing a tent. Russ was fantastic! Super responsive when we had questions, was great about showing us the area and encouraged us to use any kindling or wood we found, which there was plenty of without having to search for it. You can see the potential of this area and I think it will only get better with time.

Super fun time. Choose our site based on shade, layout. Russ arrived to meet and assure our needs met. Super surprised when a portable HOT TUB was delivered to us by Russ for us to try out…way cool party at camp site-thanks Russ. See you soon!! Great firewood too for nice big fire ring. Hubby took an outdoor shower Russ Designed!!!

Great Getaway!
We had a great time! Russ made sure we had everything we needed, we just finished the farm fresh eggs yesterday! Great place, close to Chicago, for a fast getaway! Depending on what site, you may need to create your own privacy, but it's doable! There are only a handful of sites either way - we had the place to ourselves! Great for tent campers!

Nice group camping site
We had a great group camping experience at this site. There was plenty of space for our group's 9 tents, and the fire pit area worked out well for a cooking and eating space. Russ was very friendly and responsive and arranged an extended time for the kids in our group to hang out with the chickens in their coop and collect eggs. The site was closer to the road than we had expected, and there was a large shipping container in the backdrop. There was another group nearby, but we each had our own space and they did not disturb our fun. We had a very nice time!

Awesome place! Awesome host!
Russ’ place is a great place to camp, and I will be coming back. The sites are clean, spacious, level, and private. There’s also potable water, a shower, a super clean port-a-pot and wash station, and electricity.
Most of all, Russ was an extremely generous and accommodating host. He made us feel welcomed, and he never hesitated to accommodate any of our questions. He also never allowed our supply of firewood to run too low.
Again, Russ’ property is an awesome place to camp. I will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend it.

Lagoon and dog friendly
We had an excellent stay at the blue lagoon. It is secluded at the back which was really nice as we prefer to be with nature as opposed to other campers. The lagoon is very pretty and port a potty, outdoor shower, electric and Wi-Fi were all available. Russ is an excellent and welcoming host and ensured to give us a welcome and a goodbye. He has a lot of projects on the property you drive by to get to the site but none in view of this campsite. We also appreciated the ability to have the dogs on or off leash.

Russ is a wonderful host. He had our firewood ready for us at our site when we arrived and even had an extra table for us since we were a bigger group. In the morning we messaged Russ to see if we could buy some eggs and he soon came out to our site with beautiful farm fresh eggs. The campsite is great and there is a lot to do in the area. Camping w fresh hand gathered eggs
My group had a great Memorial holiday weekend at the camp. Great location with plenty of space. Russ was an excellent host. He stopped by check on us daily to make sure we are enjoying everything.
Electricity, water, and new shower at camp site- perfect! He has best hand gathered R&L farm fresh eggs. Try it. I will definitely try to camp again. Two thumbs up.

Tent camping with dog
I was looking for a weekend getaway and found R&L Farm
The host Russ, was very accommodating. We walked the property to find a perfect spot for me and my new foster dog to tent camp.
He checked in with me when he went to town to see if I needed anything 👍🏻 and brought me back 4 gallons of water
I purchased firewood on my original check-in, but purchased more because the weather wasn’t great.
He brought me enough wood to get me through the weekend, with below freezing temps and rain, sleet and snow.
Russ was a great host! On check-out, I received the eggs I purchased and also gave me treats for my dog.
He was very responsive to my texts with questions and a great host!

Russ was extremely helpful and accommodating. He welcomed us and brought us the firewood and eggs we had added on to our order. He let us know he didn't have other campers coming in on Sun and allowed us to leave our camper while we ran to a local festival we were in town for. He truly made us feel welcome. Sites were as expected. It's rustic, but had an electrical hook up for our camper and a very clean and well lit porta-potty.

Best hip camp we have ever been

Russ was great. Very helpful and attentive. The fresh eggs were delicious and the firewood was available. The site left a little to be desired. We had our kids with us. There was a lot of broken glass and rusty nails on our site. We had some challenges with power, but with a bunch of extension cords we made it work.

Super Helpful Host
Multiple campsites on the property, but well spaced out. The host, Russ (a retired sheriff's deputy), was super friendly and helpful. He brought firewood out to our site and also ran a long extension cord and brought a flood light for us to use since we were setting up after dark (and then he made a point of staying out of our way for the rest of the trip, but we knew we could get a hold of him any time we needed). We picked a site in the front by the road which was large and convenient, but we did have occasional road & train noise - it didn't wake us, but if you are a light sleeper you might prefer a site in the back. It was a great location to be close to Starved Rock but also a quick trip back to Chicago in the morning. The property has some trails and ravines but we didn't get to explore - maybe next time!
