This garden is intended to help people connect to Mother Earth. There is room for yoga or meditation with the plants. You can sleep in a tent, or your vehicle. It has a walkable spiral, an 18’ Mother Earth sculpture, an earth lodge for ceremonies and a hexagon swing area. It’s located in a very small farm community. We are about a mile from the Hennepin canal where you can walk, fish or canoe.There is a 18’ Mother Earth sculpture (Laying down), 6 sided hammock swing with fire pit, 30’ moon circle, repurposed items into artwork, garden structures, a blessing energy gate, meditative spiral, lots of flowers, medicinal plants, edible bushes, big shade tree, picnic tables, benches and seating throughout the land. Tampico is a small town of about 800 people, It’s the birthplace of president Ronald Reagan. The Hennepin canal down the road for biking, hiking, boating and fishing.

Campfires allowed

Firewood provided, firepit, communal. The fire pit is located in the center of the hexagon swing area. We have hammocks, we have a small bit of untreated wood to burn but also have pallets that are cut into burnable sizes & stacked for pit use.

Off leash. You can bring your pet and if it stays with you it can be off the leash. We do have a couple garden cat that sometimes hang out in the garden.

Potable water available

Hose, bottled water or jugs. The garden hose is available and stretches to the shower area. There is also filtered water in a glass jar in the RV.

Showers available

Cold water only. There is a solar shower and a shower hose that can go in a bucket of warm water. The garden hose also stretches to the shower area.

Bins available

Trash bin. There is a big blue garbage receptacle near the parking area. Guests are asked to put their gar In the blue can.

Cooking equipment present

Grill over firepit, communal, fridge, freezer, cookware, cooking utensils, dishware, cutlery, sink or other dishwashing station. There is a small cast iron grill out there also a fire pit. I would only use real untreated wood when cooking over the fire pit although we don’t provide much of that. We do have pallet wood cut up for the fire pit for recreational use.

Picnic table present

There are two picnic tables that can be moved around. There is also a large table & chairs and a small bistro set available.

Laundry present

Primitive laundry methods a rinse tub on legs and a clothes line is available. Garden hose is available for water.

Playground available

I have an outdoor kitchen set for kids, kids picnic table and a table n chairs set for kids. There is a sweet little park located across the street.

Beautiful experience

This was my first experience using Hipcamp while my bf and I are traveling cross country and the stay at Carol’s was really lovely! Her and Walt were so welcoming, accommodating and kind. Made friends with their sweet kitty Ray who was our buddy for the stay, we will miss him dearly! The yard was filled with beautiful plants and was cozy, Carol was kind enough to teach us some things about them. Great people and we felt very safe there, would definitely return again if in the area!

Carol hosted 7 of us. Felt like I was in a fairy garden 🧚‍♀️ 🌸. Amazingly kind and sweet. Taught us a lot about plants and made me fall back in love with nature again. Was a trip that I’m certain others would enjoy.

There is a lovely camper and garden there to tent. There are several great places to eat in the shade of the beautiful trees and gardens. Our dog wandered safely on the property without issue or creating one. Carol gave us a lovely tour of the plants she is growing and what they do to help your body. We had arrived late in the evening but Carol sent us clear information about how to access the garden and helped us out immensely.

Carol was a very kind hearted wise woman I learned a lot of about the plants and herbs she grows here! The area was very relaxing and beautiful. Everywhere you look there’s something to learn about and admire. A lovely fire pit sits at the center of a resting place with hammocks and seats. Very cozy and welcoming. This was by far one of my favorite experiences! Carol is also very helpful if you are a first time camper and is willing to accommodate with whatever you need she even took time to show me a cozy little bar/ restaurant down the road. The area is beautiful and it’s definitely worth checking out and experiencing on your own!

A Hidden Gem

Carol’s Avalon Unity Garden was absolutely breathtaking! We were in need of a place to stay for the night as we are traveling across the country and her Garden captivated us immediately. The smells of herbs and fresh greenery are endless and Carol has provided a cozy, comfortable hammock and fire pit area to enjoy it all. Carol greeted us warmly and took the time to give us an educated tour of her garden and the magic that envelops the property. Her art sculptures from recycled materials were inspiring, a must see. At night the garden is aglow with fireflies and lights. Easy to say this spot was the perfect spot to recoup for another day of driving. Carol was so kind to allow us to stay in her RV that was available which allowed us a comfortable bed after having been camping for a week prior. Carol also educated us about the composting toilet in the rv and it was great to learn how efficient that method is. All in all, don’t pass up this spot if you’re looking for a hidden oasis to recharge and connect with Mother Earth. Thank you Carol!

I spent the night at Avalon Unity garden in Tampico, IL. Last night and I'm glad I got to experience it. I've always been interested in what nature can provide for food and medicinal purposes so it's a place to learn. Carol is very educated on both and is growing alot of it in her garden. Carol has tried to plant them more like you would find them in nature as possible and still keep it so you can walk around anywhere. This is a place for people who want to experience and learn about what nature provides, not for people looking for luxury. Carol also makes salves and lotions from nature's bounty. I know there are many others like me wanting to learn about what natural and free things nature is providing. Go and enjoy. Don W

Safe stays in artistic gardens

My partner and I stayed here on our cross country road trip and loved it! I would go out of my way to experience this lovely, safe, creative space again. Accommodating doesn’t begin to describe Carols hospitality. If you’re looking for a unique safe haven off of i80 or i88, this spot’s for you.

Do NOT miss this Hipcamp!

The corn belt and Tampico is a must see. It’s like taking a step back in time; miles and miles of corn along razor straight roads, dotted here and there with beautiful old farmhouses. Then you get to a cluster of large trees, a gas station/general store, some houses, turn of the century storefronts, a saloon and a grain elevator. Tampico’s pride in this being the birthplace of Ronald Reagan is clearly evident, an accurate testimony to the 40th president’s small town Americana roots. Carol’s Avalon Unity Garden is an anomaly out here. It’s the definition of “shabby chic” with her inventive repurposing of farm equipment, little seating nooks surrounded by extensive herb gardens, flowering shrubs, flowering clematis vine climbing a gazebo, lovely fire ring and a stately old maple tree providing lots of shade. Also, the friendliest and most fearless red cat in the world. Carol (and Walter’s) hospitality is the finest. She provided us with herbs, heirloom tomatoes, cut flowers and a supply of wood for the fire. It’s totally worth getting off the monotony of Rt 80 for the slight detour to Tampico!
