Quebec is a kind of promised land for campers, with vast swathes of parkland and sparsely inhabited wilderness—you won’t have trouble getting outside. North of Montreal and Quebec City, forested mountains and lake-dotted valleys dominate the landscape with endless hiking, fishing, and canoeing opportunities during reliably warm summers. To the east, the St. Lawrence River is one of Canada’s best whale-watching destinations.

Winter, though cold, proves no obstacle to the adventure-hungry. Our advice? Pack your thermals. That way, you can spend days ice climbing, snowshoeing, and skiing, and nights cozied up in a cabin, an insulated tent, a yurt, or even an igloo. As a general rule, the further north you go, the wilder the landscapes and fewer the facilities.

The rounded peaks of the Laurentians are the destination of choice from Montreal and Quebec City. Jacques-Cartier, Mont-Tremblant (both part of the provincial park system), and La Mauricie (part of the national park network) have four-season appeal. You can get in some rafting, kayaking, and hiking in summer, while in winter, heated cabins, huts, and yurts mean you can wake up, strap on your skis or snowshoes, and hit the trails with minimal fuss.

The St. Lawrence River meets the Atlantic at this cliff-edged peninsula—also known as Gaspésie—on Quebec’s east coast. Scan the shoreline for whales in Forillon National Park between May and October, or cat ski on virgin powder in the Chic-Choc Mountains in the icier months.

French for ‘North Shore,’ this section of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence is ripe for road-tripping. Coastal campsites at Tadoussac overlook Saguenay Fjord, a hangout for belugas, and further east, at Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve, you can set eyes on strange sea-carved rock formations and hide out on secluded offshore islands.

This farming region near the U.S. border gives off New England vibes—think covered bridges, clapboard towns, and flaming fall foliage. It’s also Quebec’s premier wine-growing region. Mont-Orford is popular for skiing or hiking, and the stargazing at Mont-Mégantic National Park is—excuse the pun—stellar.

Visitor footfall is low in Nunavik, home to the Inuit in the Arctic north. Little surprise why: There’s no road access. Nunavik Parks offers packages to the area’s four parks (Pingualuit, Kuururjuaq, Tursujuq, and Ulittaniujalik) including flights from Montreal, Inuit cultural experiences, and the chance to see the northern lights.

N'hésitez pas a nous faire part de certaine choses a améliorer, on est dans nos début ces tout nouveau ! Regarder les photos, beaucoup d'info visuel pour des points de référence sur la route vers le camping. Vous avez un resto avant le pont sur la route 155 et une station de service. Vous avez aussi le visuel pour les conteneur a poubelle . Chaque site vous aurez le branchement septique seulement, l'eau est prévue pour l'été 2027. Pour l'endroit du site les coordonné GPS son E -72° 55'6.98" N 46° 56'0.56" Les directions habituelles depuis Shawinigan : Prenez la route 155 Nord jusqu’à l’Auberge Marineau, située au 3911 route 155. Continuez un peu plus loin jusqu’au pont Mékinac et tournez à gauche pour le traverser. Le pont est payant (12 $ aller‑retour). Conservez votre billet dans la voiture, il sera nécessaire pour la sortie. Après avoir passé la guérite, tournez immédiatement à droite sur le chemin des Bêtes Puantes. Continuez sur environ 4,5 km. En haut de la montée, vous verrez l’enseigne du camping : tournez à gauche. Suivez ce chemin jusqu’aux emplacements. Le site réservé se trouvera sur votre gauche; repérez le numéro correspondant à votre réservation.

Gorgeous site! Better than the photos. The hosts were super fast at responding, and everything was ready for us to use easily. Kayaking on the lake was a beautiful experience, and I loved how easy it was to access everything. One note is that the ground is extremely uneven, which was fun for us and a cool environment to camp in, but it would be challenging to move around the site if you have any mobility issues. Un site magnifique ! Encore plus beau que sur les photos. Les hôtes répondaient super rapidement à nos messages, et tout était prêt pour que nous puissions profiter facilement de tout sur place. Faire du kayak sur le lac était une expérience magnifique, et j’ai adoré à quel point tout était facilement accessible. Un petit point à noter : le terrain est extrêmement inégal. C’était amusant pour nous et ça donnait un cadre vraiment original au camping, mais il pourrait être difficile de se déplacer sur le site pour les personnes ayant des problèmes de mobilité.

We had a wonderful stay at Camp in Rouge! Camping was so effortless without the hassle of packing tons of supplies—all we needed to bring were our clothes and food. Rae is an incredibly friendly and welcoming host who instantly made us feel right at home. She gave us clear, detailed directions to the secret waterfall, which turned out to be a major highlight—our son had an absolute blast! P.S. My husband is still raving about the brownies from the bake sale!

The place was so pretty and serene. Just 10 mins away was the best sunset I’ve seen. Such a lovely neighborhood. Miriane was a great host, I’m glad I was the first guest to her Hipcamp. Wish she gets booked all year round so people could enjoy the cute lil bunkie.

Super endroit. Les sites Maple loop en tente ou en tente-roulotte ainsi que le site Riverside en tente seulement sont superbes avec leur plate-forme au bord de l’eau. Brien est vraiment sympathique et est un hôte exceptionnel. Nous revenons à chaque année. Un des meilleurs Hipcamp.

My friend and I had a very nice stay at Ferme Lanthorn in mid September, as part of a bike-packing trip. Mary was easy to communicate with and veryvl accomodating, making sure we had everything we needed. We found the place easily and were greeted by Mary and Pearl (the dog). Mary gave us a tour of the beautiful property, and where to set up our stuff. Loved seeing the deer and sheep get fed in the morning. It's was peaceful, beautiful, and easy.

This little camp has all the amenities you need! Every corner you look is jam packed with details to make your stay better! The cabin was clean and comfortable. Woodstove and space heater for cold nights, fan for warm nights, TV and wifi for rainy nights! The mini fridge was an asset for us! The modular beds were convenient. Fully stocked with cooking/dinning gear, card and board games, extra blankets, and drinking water! Outside there are two options for a fire: a firepit and also a woodstove. There is a BBQ and smoker, a mosquito netted dining area, and all the grills and tools you could need! Rea was a wonderful host! She gave clear instructions for checkin, was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed! She was knowledgeable about the area and surrounding nature, and gave great suggestions on where to walk and fish.

What an awesome trip ! Rae has a cute little set up and everything you need to have a good stay. We overpacked because we weren't sure what she'd have, but let me tell you, she actually does have everything! My only suggestion for campers coming is to maybe bring your own chairs if you like something a bit more comfy than Rae has set up, but this doesn't affect my rating or anything - just thought that others might like to know! Thanks so much, Rae! We will definitely be back and will also recommend this place to our friends.
