Stargate was built to look at the stars through the large skylight in the loft and is a two minute walk from where you park. Dogstar cabin is our deepest wilderness immersion experience with a 20 minute hike in to the hilltop with an extraordinary view of the Quyon valley and nothing but wilderness for as far as the eye can see. Our mission for the past ten years? protecting wilderness by sharing wilderness. Welcome to LeTerrain, Canada's newest official Dark Sky Preserve, just one hour from Ottawa — and a world away from modern life. This land has been protected, lived on, and carefully stewarded for over 10 years. I’m your host, Ranger Steve, and I’ll be welcoming you to a place defined by scale, silence, and depth. LeTerrain features: 400 acres of (mostly) old-growth forest and wild terrain 5+ wetlands, ponds, and streams supporting rich biodiversity 10-20 km of maintained trails for hiking, exploring, and quiet wandering Some of the best panoramic views in the Gatineau Hills Official Dark Sky Preserve — exceptional stargazing with zero light pollution Totally off-grid (no power lines, no streetlights, no road noise) Dog-friendly — well-behaved dogs are welcome A small, intentional off-grid village of like-minded wilderness dwellers One of LeTerrain’s mountains is encircled by ancient stone structures, the focus of ongoing research and guided walks. Guests can join optional tours exploring these enigmatic constructions, their placement in the landscape, and the larger history of the region. LeTerrain is for people who want to feel the land, walk real trails, hear wolves in the valley, watch firelight replace screens, and experience a night sky the way humans did for millennia. Whether you’re here to camp, explore, stargaze, or simply disconnect, you’re stepping into a landscape that has been protected through sharing, with care and intention. Dogstar Cabin – LeTerrain Wilderness Dogstar Cabin is the most remote and profoundly beautiful cabin at LeTerrain. Set deep within our 400-acre private wilderness, this is not a place you stumble upon—it’s a place you arrive at with intention. Perched in the heart of a living, breathing ecosystem, Dogstar offers what many describe as the finest view in the Gatineau Hills of the Quyon Valley. From the cabin, the land falls away in every direction. You can see for miles—forests, ridges, sky—and you will not see a single sign of the modern world. No roads. No rooftops. No lights. Just wilderness. This is true backcountry immersion. Moose pass through the valley below. At night, the wolves can be heard calling to one another across the hills. The silence here is not empty—it’s alive. Your experience starts with a 15-20 minute hike from the main log house. Please be sure to arrive well before dark and pack lightly. We are also offering a shuttle service for your luggage up to Dogstar. Each way is 30$ and available from 3.00pm - 5.00pm on the check-in day and from 10am - 12pm on the check-out day. For special arrangements contact us directly. The loft sleeps 2, and there is a fold out couch for 2 additional guests. There is a bathroom with a modern eco toilet. We provide delicious, tested deep-country well water in the 5-gallon jug, propane for the stovetop, BBQ, and heater. There is everything you need in the kitchen, simple pots and pans, plates, cutlery and stovetop coffee maker. There is a wood stove in the cabin as well and a cooler for your food and drinks. The back porch is a gem of a place to spend an afternoon/evening. Have a nap after hiking through the wilderness. Prepare a BBQ while overlooking the valley. Sleep under the stars. There is no running water and no WiFi however, there are a couple of bars of cell reception at the cabin so you can usually squeeze text and email through. The moderate solar power is set up for lights. All you need to bring is your bedding and food and ice for the cooler! NOTE: Although the cabin is perfectly set up and very comfortable and cosy, you may see a mouse! Keep your food packed away at night.

Stargate Cabin at LeTerrain Canada’s Newest Official Dark Sky Preserve The Stargate Cabin is set just off the municipal road on a completely private peninsula within LeTerrain, a 400-acre private wilderness in western Québec — and proudly Canada’s newest officially designated Dark Sky Preserve. The wetland/beaver pond that surrounds it is teaming with wildlife all year round. This is a place to experience true ecosystems and true wilderness. Old forests, exposed stone ridges, living wetlands, and uninterrupted habitat surround you in every direction. With over 15 kilometers of private trails, guests are invited — and encouraged — to get outside, explore, wander, and reconnect with the land by foot. When night falls, the land becomes a stage for the sky. With no surrounding light pollution, the stars return in extraordinary detail: the Milky Way overhead, planets bright enough to cast shadows, and a depth of darkness now rare in the modern world. The Stargate Cabin itself is rustic, off-grid, and intentionally simple, yet always warm and cozy, even in winter. This is not a serviced luxury stay — it is a true wilderness cabin. Water is provided in 20-liter jugs, electricity is limited, and the rhythms of the land and sky set the pace. In return, you gain something far more valuable: silence, clarity, and presence. LeTerrain is shared with care, guided by the belief that what we love, we protect. This is a place for those who value wild spaces, dark skies, and meaningful quiet. If you are a true wilderness lover — someone who finds comfort in simplicity, joy in long walks, and wonder in looking up — the Stargate Cabin may feel like coming home.
