We recommend that you park on the upper portion of this driveway/road and walk or use an ATV to travel on the trail to the lake. As mentioned, there is about a 40 ft incline just as you approach the clearing down by the lake . Please wear running/walking shoes and descend slowly down either of the 2 trails provided. The trail "Easy Street" is definitely an easier descent and climb. Learn more about this land: Situated just off the main road, The Ridge Retreat offers you the privacy and beauty of 6 unspoiled acres. Follow the gravel walkway/road down (5 min walk) to your amazing private dock situated on Howes Lake, Verona Ontario. Deep, clean water for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc.  There are 2 firepits should you decide to have a campfire - one at the road site (RV and trailer) and one at the waters edge.  This property provides privacy and solitude for nature lovers. The designated RV parking spot is up near the main road along with a very nice outhouse but if you decide to tent camp, there are a few choices that would bring you closer to the water's edge.  An additional outhouse is located at the top of the incline to the lake.  The gravel/asphalt trail down by the lake is the steeper of the 2 trails. Choose the "Easy Street" trail off to your right after you pass the stop sign indicating that no vehicles should drive beyond. This trail is a bit longer but a much more gradual incline. Grocery shopping, nature trails, etc are just a few minutes away. The scenic town of Westport is a 30 min drive away with amazing shops and a local winery.

The Northumberland Forest is quite close and it offers many cross-country ski trails. Because of the cold weather, our outdoor shower it’s not operable during the winter months. There is a large bonfire area on our farm, (a little bit away from the Bunkie) also a play area for kids including zip line, boat structure, sand box, swing, above ground pool and trampoline; gorgeous circular organic garden with seating area and a small orchard. We really enjoyed the campsite and the overall park was great. From the trails to the dog park, fishing dock, beach area, and clean amenities, the park was well maintained and easy to get around. The host, Monica is fabulous! She is incredibly welcoming and very guest focused - we loved our trip so much that we are likely getting a seasonal site to enjoy the park all season long! The park is very dog friendly, which was a bonus for us and our furry family member. Highly recommend the park for its super homey atmosphere and hidden gems when you're out for an adventure!

Weekend Trip to The Ridge Retreat

We had a great time at The Ridge Retreat! The campsite is beautiful, well-maintained, and the views are amazing. The fire pits were perfect, and we really appreciated how easy it was to set up camp near the road at the top of the hill. That spot is very convenient for loading and unloading gear, though being close to the road does mean you’ll occasionally hear passing cars and nearby dogs. Next time, we’d probably choose a spot closer to the water for more privacy and atmosphere. The trail leading down to the water and lower campsites is long with steep inclines, so be prepared for a bit of a trek. We brought a wagon, which made transporting our things manageable—without it, carrying everything would’ve been tough. The dock and water setup are absolutely gorgeous. We spent most of our days down there soaking in the views, and our dog had the best time playing by the water. We didn’t swim ourselves, and while we didn’t catch any fish, just being by the water was incredibly relaxing. The host was wonderful—very friendly, accommodating of our late arrival, and made sure we had plenty of firewood. Overall, we’d definitely recommend The Ridge Retreat to anyone looking for a scenic, peaceful camping experience with a balance of convenience and adventure.

The pictures truly don’t do this spot justice! It’s very beautiful and spacious. My mother even took a photo of the outhouse because she couldn’t believe how clean and nice it was 😂. Very private and quiet space. View of the water was definitely a hike but absolutely worth it. An excellent time was had by all! Already planning to visit again! ☺️

Ridgeview - Lot 1 gave us some incredible Instagram-worthy moments by the river! The trees on the property offered the perfect balance of shade and sunlight exactly where we wanted it, making it easy to set up our tents and hammock to relax. :) We really appreciated the tented picnic table that Daric provided - it served as a critter-safe storage space for our food at night and a convenient prep area during the day. It was also located just a few steps away from the propane BBQ grill, which made cooking super easy. There were two firepits to choose from, and we were provided with plenty of firewood for our stay. The canoe (with paddles and life jackets) and a set of bicycles were a great bonus - such a fun way to explore the area! Daric stopped by to introduce himself and check in on us, which we really appreciated. He's a great host. We also liked that the parking spot wasn't right next to the tent site but a little up the way—it gave the campground a more peaceful, secluded vibe. Overall, a fantastic stay. Highly recommended!

It was an amazing spot to stay, the outhouse was super clean, it was very quiet and peaceful! It is definitely a hike to get to the water from where we decided to put our tent up so we will definitely remember to bring the wagon next time, to make bringing things up/down a bit easier. We brought our dogs and they LOOVED It - soo many squirrels to chase and they loved jumping off the dock Overall super nice spot!

Our family loved it. The quarry pond was way colder than expected but looks so clean and worth the freeze. Goats and chickens do roam but have their preferred spot, so you know where to find them. Not very private, you can see and hear all your neighbours, but the couple that run the place are nice!

The water was fabulous for swimming and paddling around. The site was very private and peaceful. We saw a beaver, some deer, frogs, snakes and a variety of birds. Despite the fire ban, we really enjoyed a (mostly) bug-free stay. Sandra was a very accommodating and gracious host.

Weekend Trip to Sweet Escape

Thank you Marie and Alison for making our all too short stay just wonderful! We enjoyed our time at your farm so much! This is our first experience with Hipcamp so weren't really sure what to expect. We were just looking for a place to stay during a geocaching event but our Hipcamp hosts went above and beyond to make it so much more! Not only have we found ourselves a new "home base" when we're in the area, but we feel like we've found new friends. The RV site is great! Closest site to the road but there is very little traffic. All in all much quieter than a Provincial Park campsite. The other sites are scattered around the perimeter of the property so they're far enough away that you can't really hear anything from them. This site was great because you have a really good view of the open area (great for stargazing) and the vegetable garden (take a tour of that with Marie or Alison). They have a beautiful lighted Gazebo and fire pit in the middle if you'd like to gather with other campers for games or a bit of social time. They've done a massive amount of work to make their camp comfortable and cozy and seem to always have an eye to what they can improve (although I thought it was pretty much perfect). Thanks again Alison & Marie! We just got home last night and enjoyed ourselves so much we're already planning our next trip back!
