This was one of the original homesteads in the Margarees. There was an old sawmill on site which was used to build the house and barn. It was sold to a man who started renovations for a summer house but ended up listing it for sale. I purchased it and completely renovated the 100-year-old house. Shortly after, my brother and I started an outfitting company with no plan of building a campground, but in 2017 we saw a great opportunity for building something unique. We wanted to keep a backwoods camping feel, but yet create it around a hostel-inspired environment. We launched June 1, 2018 and are in full swing now. The property is a 7-acre peninsula in Pope's Harbour, located in the heart of the 100 Wild Islands Protected Area along Nova Scotia's eastern shore.
My home is on the property but located far enough away from the sites to allow for plenty of privacy.
It is a kayaker's paradise. Dozens of islands, many with beaches and campsites, can be reached with very little effort from the property.
The property features private oceanfront campsites, a boat launch, a small hiking trail around the perimeter, secure multi-day parking for guests who wish to camp on the islands, and free local advice on where to find the hidden gems throughout the archipelago.
Just 15 minutes away, Taylor Head Provincial Park offers two beautiful beaches and excellent hiking trails.
The nearby town of Sheet Harbour is also worth a visit, with a great pub, a microbrewery, and other local amenities.
Lobster season is from mid April to mid June. Many local vendors in the area should you wish to enjoy freshly caught lobster.

Nestled in a quaint old Fishing Town is a 4-Acre Forest property that hasn’t been touched since 1885!
This land overlooks the North Atlantic Ocean, with a 25ft bank at the edge of the property, and almost 200ft of stone beach!
No potable water on this property (well water is available by hose for cooking/cleaning/showering), but 10 minutes by car, you’ll find a Sobeys, a pub, a Home Hardware, and small local shops that carry camping supplies and so much more!
There is a composting toilet being built, please either bury the bag when you are done, or double bag it and leave it in the garbage box at the end of the driveway.
As a septic system is now on the property, I am unable to provide access to the waterfront campsite for camp-cars/RVs/trailers.
30 min drive away is the infamous Martinique Beach, a very popular surfing spot!
Lots of hiking and site seeing available nearby as well.
A long driveway is the entry point to the camping site.
All I ask is that each camper leave the property better than they found it. As you depart, another camper is most likely arriving, so please keep that in mind.
Enjoy the peace under the stars, and fall asleep to the sounds of the waves breaking against the shore, and the leaves rustling in the breeze!

There is currently a Tiny Home on the property being built, and it is currently occupied by the property owner full-time.
Garbage pick-up in this area only allows one black plastic bag to be removed every 2 weeks. If your garbage is in a clear bag the city will take it and you can put your sealed garbage in a clear bag in the wood box at the end of the driveway. The city ONLY takes clear bags. Recycling is allowed in blue bags.
Due to this restriction, I am not able to handle all the campers garbage -- please take any that you create with you if you do not have clear bags.
If any camper is found to have stayed past the checkout time, they will be charged for another night's stay.

My friend and I loved the private campsite that Trevor had! It was extremely private and had an amazing view of the ocean, especially during sunset and sunrise. Trevor had absolutely everything we needed set up including fire wood and an accessible bathroom with a shower. Also perfect for bringing dogs!

This is a small, family run rv park, and not what I think of when I look for Hipcamps. There are both rv and tent sites, and many sites are on the water. The tent sites are mostly on the water and have nice privacy. There were 30 rv sites and 20 tent sites. The rv sites have varying degrees of privacy. We were originally booked in site 31 on the water, but decided it was too tight a space for our travel trailer (it is also very very close to site 32) and we moved to site 7, which was larger. Most of the rv sites are not super private, but in general they have nice spacing (but again, not what I think of for a Hipcamp). The people who run it were very friendly and helpful. You can kayak directly from the campground. While I don’t consider this a true Hipcamp, I would return, but would book directly through the campground website to avoid the additional Hipcamp surcharge.

We only had one night at Lunenburg before handing our RV rental back, so difficult to provide too much feed back. But site was good for us, power, water and sewage dump so we could clean down before it went back. Never used the log burner as it rained most of the evening but it was there to use, along with picnic bench. Recycling and compost facilities available which was good and a small store in the reception. Its location was close to town so we drove the RV in and parked kerbside, opposite the museum. Not sure that would always be possible. We'd definitely use it again.

When we arrived, it was clear that backing into Pam's spot was going to be tricky with our 16ft travel trailer. The lawn is sloped and the road quite narrow. It took us some time to make sure our trailer wasn't going to tip over. We managed it and also managed to stop local traffic while doing so. No one was there when we arrived but later on Pam's daughter showed up. It seems she is the one to be managing their site which may need some more effort. Pam is lovely and came over to meet us and offer help with whatever we might need. Her dog and ours had a nice time playing which was sweet. All in all, a starter hosting situation with an ok view in a closely housed neighborhood. Beware the slope when you are backing in.

Ryan’s land is very accessible, and it already has everything you need for glamping, shower, potable water, toilet, and a table. We really enjoyed our stay and just wish we could’ve stayed longer!

1 night at Hawthorn Eco Retreat
We had plans to tent camp in the national park… but the forecast was calling for pouring rain and chilly temps. We booked this at the last minute and we are so glad we did. The cabin was warm, dry, and so cozy. We played Sequence by lantern-light and slept very comfortably. The incinerator toilet was so clean and was a great resource to have available. We truly enjoyed our stay and would have done multiple days if we were staying in the area!

Tent
We absolutely loved tent camping at this location near the Blueberry Trail. We enjoyed the total privacy, the screened gazebo with the fire bowl, the hot outdoors shower and beautiful landscape, but what was special were the little paths at the back of the property through the forest!
There is an old fashion radio with four outdoors speaker with CD & cassette player, so bring your favourite music!
At night, the night sky was absolutely stunning with no light pollution. The coyotes can be heard happily yapping away in the distance.
The location was perfect, with the blueberry trail leading to the Atlantic View trail then Heritage trail all the way to Cold Harbour and beyond. Don’t miss the little cafe within walking distance with espresso based coffees!
Our hosts should give seminars on how to make guests feel totally pampered and offering such a well thought out camping site. Thank you!!

Weekend Trip to Hawthorn Eco Retreat
Our stay here was great, despite the rough weather! The cabin was clean and cozy, the trail on the back of the property down at the river was really nice to visit and our bunkie was very private. We had everything we needed to have a nice getaway and explore some of the island.

What a beautiful spot to camp for a few nights! Ryan was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions. We loved how quiet and peaceful it was, and having hoses available for both water and a gray tank flush was such a convenient bonus. The bike trail was very close, and we enjoyed getting out on it between the rainstorms. We would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful and convenient place to stay!

Ryan and Scott were very responsive to any inquiries we had from booking to checking out! We booked site 2 and arrived to a clean, well maintained area. This was large enough for our overlanding camper and Tacoma. We have been on the road for 40 days and needed a little break from the campground scene. We had our own private screened in porch, dish washing station, and portable toilet. The parking spot was on a well packed gravel driveway surrounded by a beautifully manicured yard with mowed walking paths. We woke every morning to the bunnies having breakfast under our picnic table! The deer came to eat apples every morning. The area was quiet with no additional traffic passing by our site which made it very private for the outdoor shower, which is equipped with hot water! If I am ever in the are again I would definitely stay here again! Thank You Ryan for your attention to detail and hospitality!
