This was one of the original homesteads in the Margarees. There was an old sawmill on site which was used to build the house and barn. It was sold to a man who started renovations for a summer house but ended up listing it for sale. I purchased it and completely renovated the 100-year-old house. Shortly after, my brother and I started an outfitting company with no plan of building a campground, but in 2017 we saw a great opportunity for building something unique. Nestled in a quaint old Fishing Town is a 4-Acre Forest property that hasn’t been touched since 1885!
This land overlooks the North Atlantic Ocean, with a 25ft bank at the edge of the property, and almost 200ft of stone beach!
No potable water on this property (well water is available by hose for cooking/cleaning/showering), but 10 minutes by car, you’ll find a Sobeys, a liquor store, a laundromat/cafe, a pub, a Home Hardware, and small local shops that carry camping supplies and so much more!
There should be a grey plastic rounded table available (just pop in the 4 peg legs), and 2 matching grey small coffee side tables you can use positioned under the Tiny Home. Please return them somewhere underneath the Tiny Home when you are done using them so that other campers may use them :)
30 min drive away is the infamous Martinique Beach, a very popular surfing spot!
Lots of hiking and site seeing available nearby as well.
A long driveway is the entry point to the camping site.
All I ask is that each camper leave the property better than they found it. As you depart, another camper is most likely arriving, so please keep that in mind.
Enjoy the peace under the stars, and fall asleep to the sounds of the waves breaking against the shore, and the leaves rustling in the breeze!

There is currently a Tiny Home on the property being built, and it is currently occupied by the property owner full-time.
Garbage pick-up in this area only allows one black plastic bag to be removed every 2 weeks. If your garbage is in a clear bag the city will take it and you can put your sealed garbage in a clear bag in the wood box at the end of the driveway. The city ONLY takes clear bags. Recycling is allowed in blue bags.
Due to this restriction, I am not able to handle all the campers garbage -- please take any that you create with you if you do not have clear bags.
If any camper is found to have stayed past the checkout time, they will be charged for another night's stay.

"Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical.
You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy.
Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court.
On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware!
Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver.
The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use.
Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee.

This is one of the original properties for the area. Owned by one lovely family since the 1700's until your current (very lucky) host. The house was the post office from 1861 to 1961. One of the rooms was the hospice for the area... SPOOOOOKY!!!
There is a culvert from the 1700's on the property from where the province moved the highway sometime before the 40's. Neat!
Reggie took over ownership in 2020 and is keeping things as original as possible, but adding his touch, like his battle axe travel trailer, Franny, which makes her home in the driveway. She's worth a visit!
- TENT ADVANCED LEVEL LAKESIDE is by far the most beautiful; however, it is a small area, located on the edge of the property, and I can't be responsible for the neighbours to a certain extent.
Fort Nova is your home for as long as you choose. Let's get campy!
**KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE MAY BE OTHERS STAYING THERE** But there are multiple areas to choose from, including: the lawn, living amongst the pines, a forest clearing, or even lakeside (it's rough back there). You can have complete privacy and feel free to reach out to me at the house if you need anything.
For those with RV's, there is an exterior outlet and a water spigot, but please remember, others might be staying there so we need to play nice and share!
On the property, there is:
- A decent-sized lake (I wish I had a canoe... :( )
- 1700's abandoned bridge
- Lots of foraging (Won't be held liable if ya eat something silly!)
- Rail Trail (runs through the property)
So many bloody things to do nearby:
- The ocean is right across the street.

In every sense of the word, the site is fantastic. The hosts' have considered every detail that would make a guest feel welcomed and comfortable, and that is visible with the naked eye on every square inch of the accommodation. The build itself, is a marvel to behold, and the generous gratuities (everything from extra blankets to Q-Tips) are a constant reminder that the hosts truly take pride in, and enjoy accommodating their guests with hospitality that exceeds standards and expectations. The perfect mix of camp and glamp with privacy, peace and serenity. This is a great spot for a couple, friends or young family to enjoy the outdoors together. With animals on the farm, trails on the property, location close to Amherst and attentive hosts, you can't get much better than this! Bring some sunscreen, bugspray and smore stuff for the ultimate unwind and relaxing time. This was a beautiful solo and safe getaway if you just want some time to yourself. This place was absolutely gorgeous, such a thoughtful set up and loved that there were kayaks and paddle boards. Karen was great, so communicative and helpful.
Would caution when you’re looking to stay, we unfortunately had such bad bugs we weren’t able to utilize the site and ultimately had to leave, you can’t control Mother Nature, the May flies have been particularly bad this year.

The spot was easy to find, well marked. It is in a nice, quiet residential area.. but as soon as you walk through the enchanting little path.. you are brought to a forest oasis. My husband Glenn and I spent two nights and we loved it! The lights are great, as you are able to really enjoy the area as night falls. We got to meet both John and Carol.. John was great to lend us a hatchet as there is lots of firewood provided to have a nice relaxing fire. Carol brought us some seeds and peanuts for the cute chickadees and the blue jays that visited us. If you are looking for a private, relaxing, rustic (in the best way) get away.. this is the spot :) We were able to drive 10 minutes and get whatever we needed, but also felt so tucked away and enchanting. The bathroom facilities are great, clean, and well stocked, well lit for night time too. We will definitely be back!

We had the best time at Moss Cottage during our last minute getaway from the city. Chantelle and Gary have created a magical little hideaway in the forest with everything you could need to disconnect for a while and tune into nature. We can't wait to get back there one day and would definitely recommend to anyone who is ready to enjoy life off grid for a moment. Owl's Hollow was amazing! We stayed dry under the covered tent shelter, there was plenty of firewood, lots of water and the site was gorgeous. Loved the lake, the canoes and kayaks provided were so fun to explore with. The outhouse was the nicest I've ever seen. I would 100% reccommend this site, 100 times over!

We had such a fantastic stay at this off-grid cabin. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and the cabin was thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed. It was spotless, cozy, and perfectly tucked away in the trees for a peaceful getaway. We loved the firepit, the nearby trails, the open field, and especially the pet emus — such a fun and memorable touch. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unplug and relax in nature! Amenities just a few minutes away makes this a perfect location.

Had a great spring tent out at campsite 1. View was incredible, site clean and spacious. Firepit on site, as well as dry kindling and wood- thanks Dan!
This place is great if you are looking for private campsite to get away.
I had my dog with me and he also had a great time with few distractions.
We’ll be back.
