Description

Panther Flat Campground is a large and popular campground that sits on a shady flat above the bright blue Smith River. There are huckleberry bushes between campsites--great for privacy and midnight snacks. Yum! For river access, drive or walk to the picnic area and spend the day swimming and fishing! For a unique experience, take a botanical trail to the Darlingtonia bog, just a mile away.

We had a lovely weekend here at Panther Flats! The campground did not have all of the organized activities or visitor centers of a State or National Park campground, but it did have decent amenities like one would expect at a state park (bathrooms with flush toilets, shower, etc.) and was fairly quiet. The campground host does not sell firewood or make change, so make SURE if you have an extra car that you need to pay for at the time of check-in that you have a variety of bills, and bring firewood with you! You can apparently buy it at the small market in Gasquet if in a pinch! There is an INCREDIBLE swimming hole with a tiny beach, so get there early to steak out a spot for your beach blanket! Check out the Darlingtonia Bog, 1 mile away!
