Description

If the description "fish out of water" fits you to a tee, take a trip to the Gee Creek Campground along the Hiwassee River, where tent-friendly sites sit near the river. The sound of rushing water will lull you to sleep after a day of paddling the tides, proceeded by some fishing to slow it down a little. If an extended adventure is what you’re after, set up base camp at Gee Creek and paddle due east to catch a part of the John Muir Trail. Don’t worry about making it back in time for supper—dispersed sites along the river are another good place to call home for the night.

I'm a Whitewater boater, typically my motivation for camping in this area. My review of this campground is two fold, 1) it's a great spot and perfect for the river. It's beautiful and I have enjoyed several nights non the past here 2) just don't even think about cracking open a beer or adult beverage at this campground. One, it's a state campground and a big no no but the rangers have historically been all up in people's business at this campground. If they hear the "click" of a beer can that's probable cause for them to search your campsite. Just be warned, be smart and if you've decided to camp here don't break the rules!
